Lol I haven't seen snow pile up like that on vehicle around here since about 2009 & 2010. I have to wonder who programs a radio station's playlist for a given time period. I was driving back from an errand @ 3. That old sad song, "Shannon is gone, I heard she's drifting out to sea" came on 1st station. It's about the family dog dying. Next station had Karen Carpenter singing, "Merry Christmas, darling. We're apart, that's true ..." Seriously?!? I didn't want wa-wa or bluesy anything. Last station in the row had a heavy metal hair band from the 80s playing "O, Come All Ye Faithful". It was the most rousing, upbeat, cheerful piece I'd heard all day! I sang at the top of my lungs with them! Turned out it was Twisted Sister. I was impressed!

Good morning! It is 21 degrees and very windy here this morning, but at least the freezing rain has finally stopped after 2 days.

Glad to hear the freezing rain has stopped, Mel. I saw pictures of somewhere that high winds had hit. 91 mph wind blew over a tractor-trailer rig and pushed the empty trailer along the shoulder. Our office party last night was really fun. It was at the country club. The food was delicous, the company was good, and the dirty Santa gift exchange kept us in gales of laughter for over an hour. There were several gifts of alcohol and those weren't as popular as in past years. There was a toilet paper gun that would have been a great 'steal' if we still had boys at home. Our bookkeeper had every gift she chose stolen. It happened about 6 times, to include one of younger husbands stealing the tp gun from her. She ended up opening the very last gift 'under the piano' at the end and I can't remember what it was. It's good we only do that sort of thing once a year. I have one more party - my veterans' group is having a Christmas luncheon tomorrow. We're going to vote on supporting the construction of the handicapped playground with a monetary donation. In my opinion, that's the physical legacy our group is going to leave behind in this town. It's for the good of the community, and should last for decades after most of our group has passed on. I'm really hoping they'll give, because our group has the money.

Poor May is pouting in the other room. I shut her out of the room where I was wrapping the Christmas presents I have for my great nieces, because she wouldn't let the paper alone. Wouldn't take the sheet of paper I offered her to play with, had to have the piece I was using. Even when I let her have that one and get another one to use, then she wants that new one instead. What a cat!

It is lightly snowing and windy at 16 degrees here this evening with an expected low of 9 toward morning.
By the weekend, we are supposed to be back up into the 50s again.
Crazy weather, crazy weather!

The interstate north of here is closed in both northbound and southbound lanes due to a 30 vehicle pile up on the icy road including 20 18 wheelers.

My goodness, what a horrible wreck! It's sad that anyone has died in that accident; I am thankful for all involved that not more have died. It's not a good time to be on the road anywhere that has had freezing rain, ice, snow ... all of the forms of winter weather. Praying for all directly involved and their family and friends who are affected but not there in the mess.

This latest round of freezing rain tonight was a surprise, it was not in the forecast, but with the extreme cold we have tonight everything that comes down freezes almost instantly.

Praying people will get off the roads and stay off. Only emergency personnel have any need to be out tonight. I finished my Christmas shopping for ds and his family today. It was a lot of fun! Son gave me some good ideas for the kids, and I already had his & L's gifts. I am going to add a summer sausage to his BBQ package because it seems a little puny without 'something more'. Did May forgive you for not allowing her to be in the middle of your gift wrapping project, Mel? These animals are all just so in charge of their houses, people, lives!

Good morning! It is 8 degrees here this morning. I had some errands that I wanted to run this morning, but I think that I am going to wait. Did May forgive you for not allowing her to be in the middle of your gift wrapping project, Mel? These animals are all just so in charge of their houses, people, lives! She got over her pout eventually. I think the bag of kitty treats may have had something to do with it.

Local news this morning is reporting that in addition to the one man who died 37 other people were hospitalized. No word on how serious the injuries are.
The wreck is being blamed on near zero visibility caused by a sudden snow squall combined with icy road conditions.
Edit to add: Local news is now reporting that a second victim has died at the hospital.
Praying for the victims and their loved ones.
A situation like this is always bad, but coming right at the holidays can make it extra devastating.
