It is a day early, but I thought that I would go ahead and get the new Autumn chat thread set up while I was thinking of it. I went to the early service at church this morning. The service was very good again this morning. Pastor Adam continued his series on ministry. This week's topic was the Bible's requirements for church Elders. After church, I had brunch with my parents and spent some time visiting with them. Mom wanted 3 hot dogs and nothing else. She seemed to really enjoy them. I try not to eat too much of that sort of thing, but when I do I get the ones that are all meat and as little as possible in the way of preservatives and chemical additives. I'm home now getting ready to do the laundry and try to get caught up on the housework. I told May to get busy cleaning the bathroom, but she just looked at me and went back to playing with her own tail.

The new thread for Autumn looks great, Mel! I all those animals jumping around in the leaves. Hi, Scott, Jeanette, Amy, and anyone who drops by. We keep a pack of "natural" hot dogs on hand, with no nitrites or nitrates. We get that type of lunchmeat & ring sausage too. Those items are probably still not real healthy, but at least they're not terrible. Funny thing about these animals, I couldn't talk the hounds into sweeping the laundry room floor me either. ... Oh, well.

Good evening. I'm currently watching the livestream of the Comanche Nation Fair powwow, which Bernie Sanders is here to be the featured speaker. Tribal Chairman Willie Nelson is currently speaking. I'm going to see how long I can stick it out, watching this . . .
I made it! I listened to all Willie Nelson had to say (I am acquainted with him; his wife is a good acquaintance - a very sweet gal); and I listened through all Bernie Sanders had to say. There wasn't really anything new - raise min wage to $15/hr; cancel student debt; colleges will be free; expand medicare to cover every last man, woman, & child in the US; and, he wants the Indian people nationwide to use their cultures to teach all of us Americans the importance of living with nature, taking care of the environment, and why climate control is important. My question remains: "Who is going to pay the cost of accomplishing those programs' goals?" Mr. Sanders did not address that.
There's a large Missing & Murdered Indigenous Womens group here. They are doing a lot of research and footwork in finding missing Native women and solving the crimes against those who have been murdered. I have great respect for these women - I would like to work with them on this project. Maybe one of these days I'll find a way into that group. Anyway, Bernie Sanders assured the members of the MMIW who were there that he will have an Attorney General and a Dept of Justice that "will not ignore the pain of these women, that will solve the crimes of the past, and not only do that, but will bring tougher programs to prevent these murders from continuing to occur." <--The plan(s) to make this happen must be coming at a later date; nothing more on the subject tonight.
The last thing he said was that he wanted to assure the Indian people present that he would make sure the pain, the lies, and the broken treaties end. He said those things should have never happened to begin with.
The Comanche tribal chairman called up a couple other tribal chairman from SW Okla tribes (Kiowa, Apache), a rep from the Shoshone tribe (they just had a big gathering here a week ago), and a man who is a PhD educator and political sort (I've been acquainted with that particular man for over 25 years) and that man presented a Comanche blanket to Bernie Sanders and they had handshakes and thank-yous all around the group & that was the end of the livestream./I'm taking off my journalist cap now and putting a grin on my face.

Good morning! It looks like we are going to have a warm but rainy day here.
In my opinion, Bernie Sanders is a master of telling people what they want to hear. He puts forth a lot of ideas that sound good in theory, but they are not really workable when it comes to how to pay for them. Like the saying goes: "Socialism is a great system until you run out of other people's money."
As with the last Presidential election, I don't really like any of the choices that we have; but I will most likely back Trump if he runs again because I see him not necessarily as a good choice, but as the best of the choices we have by far. The biggest problem I see with another Trump term is that unless the more conservative parts of the Republican party manage to retake control of both houses of Congress we will have another 4 years of childish antics by liberal career politicians who are more interested in fighting pretty much anything that Trump tries to do than in doing the jobs they were elected for.
Getting off my now

I'm not a Bernie Sanders supporter in any way. His coming here was important however because we do not have presidential candidates come to the Lawton area, ever, whether to hold a town hall meeting or let the chamber of commerce show them around, or to visit the soldiers at Ft. Sill, or attend a Native American function. If they come to Oklahoma - & that's not often, except for our our senators, they'll go to Tulsa. They might have a function in Oklahoma City, as it's the state capitol. This whole SW quadrant is regarded as backwards, and of no consequence. No presidential candidate had come to visit the Comanche Indians since the days of Teddy Roosevelt. He came here once. So, I see Bernie's visit as important to the area, tho' I seriously doubt it gained him any votes. Bernie, and his visit, became a piece of our Lawton and SW Oklahoma history yesterday. That has value. (Hope that makes sense. Not sure, a person might have to live here to "get it". ) Great workout this morning. I got there a little late, but got into it. The trainer and I were meeting at 9:30 to do step aerobics. She was a few minutes late but that was okay, it let me get a little further through what I'd planned to do before she arrived. We had a great step workout. It will take me a little bit to get back into working the step - leading with the correct foot so I don't trip myself, staying balanced when I'm only on one foot and moving through a repetitious & not stable set of movements, etc. But I'll get it - and probably soon. Still wrestling with the rent house, or maybe more accurately to say the "squatters, and tweakers" who keep getting into it. I have to pick up several sheets of 1/2" plywood in a little bit & have a couple of them cut to fit so that my buddy Tony & I can go over to that house and board up just about every window & door. We had the side door on the garage boarded up and it had stayed that way for over a year. Yesterday, we found a pick-axe setting against the chainlink and the plywood from that door leaning against the fence. Someone used that pick-axe to pry that board off that door. See y'all later! Have a great Monday!

Around here it was a huge deal during the 2016 election when Mike Pense who was running for vice president at the time visited the area to campaign for Trump.
I would love to see Pense run for president when Trump is no longer able to run again.
And I love your new black cat avatar. The kitty avatars are taking over.

Oh, I didn't take it that you thought I was supporting Sanders. I figure you know me better than that. This photo was on the front page of today's paper. It was taken by Scott Rains, a staff writer/photographer for the Lawton Constitution. The only place I could find it online was on a Bulgarian news site. .... I grabbed a copy for posterity. This is a Pendleton wool blanket with the Comanche logo on it that the Comanche Nation Chairman has over his shoulder. It was presented to Bernie.
I'm supporting Trump for 2020, and I'm really hoping Pence will run in 2024. Thanks, I thought that little black cat with all those orange pumpkins around him looked very Autumn-ish. edited to add: Did they get the fire out?

Last report I heard was that the fire was under control, but units are expected to be on scene for several more hours to deal with any smoldering hot spots that could reignite.
Evidently, some genius decided that in spite of the extreme dry conditions that we have had these last few weeks, it would be a good idea to burn a big pile of trash right next to the corn fields and then go away for the day while it was still burning.
Edit to add: Open burning of trash is not legal here by the way anyhow.

That happens pretty often out in the rural areas here, when we're having terrible drought summers. I should probably knock on wood - I don't think that's happened here this summer, even with all that dry weather we had through July & August. Thankfully! Hopefully it won't happen all the rest of the year.
My buddy & his helper are 'almost' finished with boarding up the whole house on the north side. They're going back tomorrow to move one board that they put in the wrong place. I'm meeting him at 5 tomorrow afternoon to walk around the house & take pictures. I met them over there about 8 and pulled the pickup truck into the side yard, shining the headlights on the window they were working on. We had some good laughs and hurried to wrap things up. Been a long, good day!
See y'all tomorrow.

I don't remember the last time Bernie was in Massachusetts but he'll show up soon enough. He'd better since Warren is our senator (much to my dismay.) DS is back from Asia. He's funny. "Too much rain, too much traffic, too expensive." I found out why his air fare was so cheap. The airline is Chinese and is used mainly by Chinese tourists going to and from China to the USA. So I asked him if his experience with Chinese tourists matched the stereotype. "It was worse than you can imagine." This, according to him. They do not line up for anything. The entire group tries to board at once. People got out of their seats and walked the aisle during the take off roll! Flight attendants shouted at them to sit down but they were ignored. Similarly, when they were on final approach to Wuhan (that is, over the runway but not yet on the ground) some people got out of their seats to retrieve carry on baggage. Flight attendants screaming some more...still ignored! What can you say to that!
