I don't know what our school district officials are thinking. The roads and sidewalks here are a solid sheet of ice this morning and we are under a Winter storm warning until 1AM tomorrow morning, but the schools are open today without even so much as a delay. Happens here all of the time. The superintendent of our schools follows the lead of the next town over. That town almost never closes. Here's the thing, though. In the other town transportation is provided for all students no matter how close they live to the school. In my town buses only carry those living further than 2 miles from school. We have walkers heading off to school in some really heinous weather sometimes. It's dangerous for the kids and it's dangerous for drivers. We used to keep DS home on those days.

All of the other school districts around us are either closed or running on a 2 hour delay to allow the roads to be treated. I've already seen a couple of kids take some nasty slips and falls out here this morning as they walk up toward the school. If I had any school age kids here, they most definitely would be staying home today.

Later: Sweetie solved the problem with my Hamilton Beach blender. I could blend up whatever but when I picked it up out of the stand portion, the bottom would come unscrewed and everything would run out. Well, I only did that twice! You can imagine what a big mess it was to clean up. I explained to him and he put some water in it, tried all the buttons & they worked fine, and then he picked up pitcher portion - just straight up - right off the stand portion with no problem. He knew immediately what I was doing wrong. The old blender locked into place, and I had to give it a half turn to unlock it before I could pick up the pitcher. When I did that on this blender, I unscrewed the bottom of the pitcher, so of course the bottom fell off. I laughed so hard I couldn't catch my breath! I assured him I appreciate the way his mind works! He laughed almost as hard as I did.
Makes me think of the time Sharon & I were trying to make fruit smoothies and I forgot to secure the lid (it had to be pushed down and turned) before I turned the blender on.

Good morning. Bitterly cold this morning, but not nearly what people north & east of us woke up to. There have been some people slide off the state highway about 10 mi east of us, but that's supposed to improve by lunchtime.
That makes no sense not to close schools in thst icy weather. School officials here are pretty good about closing the schools, but the buses have to cover some rural areas to bring kids into town so those roads are a prime consideration.

That's a good one, Mel. Cold or not, I've got to put on my shoes and head out the door. Must get gifts for the office party, which is tomorrow evening. Also need to pick up small gifts for DS & his family.

Usually our school officials here are almost too quick to close when there is even the threat of a possibility of bad weather even before it actually does anything. But this time around they seem to be determined not to miss any school days before Christmas break no matter how bad the weather gets.

You have to love the way little kids think.
My niece has recently started working on potty training her youngest daughter (not quite 2), and today the little one decided that her stuffed dinosaur needs to be potty trained too.

Wishing I could be in Boston on Wednesday to visit the Boston Museum of Fine Arts! Museum Of Fine Arts Hosting Boston’s Biggest Hanukkah Celebrationwww.wgbh.org/news/local-news/2019/12/15/museum-of-fine-arts-hosting-bostons-biggest-hanukkah-celebrationHave you been to this in past years, Scott? It sounds interesting. I didn't have any luck finding a canned ham bigger than a 1-lb Hickory Honey (like in Christmas with the Kranks) but I wanted about a 3-lber to put in the office party's "dirty Santa" gift exchange tomorrow evening. We were thinking of something humorous that might be stolen a few times. I settled for a long 24 oz Genoa Salami. I also picked up a Dolce Forneria Traditional Italian Cake, baked in Italy. If you've had one, you know exactly how tasty it is! I'd never had one before. Edward opened it up after dinner this evening & cut each of us a piece. Oh, my goodness. It's a tall, round cake with a very light body & a little bit of dried fruit. Have any of you had one of these? Dee-lish-us!

Good morning!
It is another very cold morning here with freezing rain still ongoing since yesterday.

For the 2nd day in a row, our local schools are open at the regular time in spite of extremely icy roads.

This is the first time I have heard of such an event at Museum of Fine Arts. I've been to the museum but not to anything like that. I guess I'm lacking in culture.

This is the first time I have heard of such an event at Museum of Fine Arts. I've been to the museum but not to anything like that. I guess I'm lacking in culture. A snippet of the article showed up in our Nationwide Briefs 1/2-page in our newspaper yesterday. I had to google it because I wanted to see what more was said. I'd really like to visit the museum tomorrow, but don't think I can pull that off. I doubt your not having heard of it says anything about your level of culture, Scott. Windchill at 7:00 this morning was 17 degrees. This is supposed to be the only bitterly cold day in the next 10 so I'm not complaining. I'm still agreeing with you,Mel, that it's crazy not to close the schools in the type of weather y'all are having. This being a military town, it's been customary all the years I've lived here to sell German, Italian, British holiday cakes, cookies, and candies at the commissary, the German markets, and a couple of the local smaller stores (not big like Wal-Mart). The goodies start arriving around Thanksgiving and last till New Year's. I don't buy them like I used to because they've really gone up in price over the years, and we've also cut way back on sweets. I am happy to have picked up this cake, however. Got the call this morning - the sewer line warranty company has approved our sewer line repair so the plumbing contractor was calling to schedule it. Next Thursday (Dec 26th), 8:30 a.m.
