Good morning! It's overcast but the sun is trying to come through. Work has had me all tied up this week. For a part-time job, it's pretty hectic. Not consistent hours, and some days I spend my time 'putting out fires', as we used to call it in the defense contracting world, which means whatever calm, quiet bookkeeping-type project I'd had planned for the day either doesn't get finished or may not even get started till the next day. Today has already turned into one of those days. Nita is taking the day off - and she certainly deserves it! I hope she has something fun, or relaxing, or both planned. She texted this morning to ask if I could meet the pest control guy & let him into apts at half the biggest complex she manages. I can, and don't mind doing it all. Just not sure I'll get utility invoices finished. We'll see ... I'm taking off tomorrow. It's a great job, I really do enjoy it, so this is no complaint, simply a statement of how my days go. I commented in front of the grands & DS last week that "I love my job. It's a lot of fun!" and I thought the 17-yr old was going to fall off the couch. He said, "Well you don't hear people say that about their jobs too often!" Barb, I made the cake yesterday, as well as a Royal mess in the kitchen and cleaned up the kitchen while it baked. Well it looked aok when I removed it from the oven after the timer went off… but it flopped! It sank in the middle and continued to do so, as I discovered after a short rest. It was mushy inside, although I did wolfed down a couple small pieces with Lactaid fat free milk LOL I microwave the 2nd piece, but that cake was thrown out. Jeanette, do you suppose the fact that apples have such a high moisture content is the problem? I made that honey-applesauce cake back in September and it was tricky. I cut the recipe in half, and baked it in one loaf pan (recipe feeds a big family! ). I babied it all the way through baking and it took longer than the recipe said. When I let it cool down some, but was still warm, I dumped it on a big plate and about 1/4 of the bottom of the cake stayed in the loaf pan. Sweetie & I chowed down and enjoyed it, but the whole thing was a little messy, and I don't know if I'd make it again or not. <-- After that experience, I was really curious to see how your cake would turn out. I think next time I want something with apples in it, I make a cobbler and ask Edward to make a pie! Either would be a lot less mess! We're fighting an invasion of little mice. I'll leave it at that, except to say I didn't sleep well last night - what with the x-ray tech having me bend that shoulder, arm, & hand around, and with being able to hear some mice but not sure where they were. Gotta run - see y'all later! Hope everyone has a great day!

I had a meeting with my parents' lawyer this morning to do the final paperwork to close out my Dad's estate.
Now I just have a few more things to do for Mom's estate over the next couple of months and this will finally be over.
I also stopped at the grocery store on the way home to replenish the squirrels' peanut supply.

Luv, luv, luv that garbage disposal loaner! Glad you found peanuts for the squirrels. Good day - added some refresher skills: re-learned how to request a new water account through the City (hadn't done that in over 10 years!); and now am able to make bank deposits. I did get the utility bills posted to the tenants' accounts on the 2 8-unit addresses on the south side of town, but ran out of time to generate notices to send the individuals. That can wait till Monday. I stopped by to see DS & family for a few minutes after work. He's been concerned about my arm so I wanted to show it to him. Now he's wanting to know what the x-rays show (he's hopping up & down, wanting to see "now"). He has dislocated both shoulders in past years - he dislocated one shoulder two different times. I assured him I'm doing okay. I thought going by to show him what I can/can't do would relieve his concerns, but it didn't quite do it. . . . I may take him with me to the doc's office so he can look at the x-rays! Sweetie had a closing this afternoon on a neat "slightly" fixer-upper. The buyers are our ages and they've done a lot of remodeling over the years. They had an "ah-ha!" moment a few weeks back - it hit them that they could buy a $75,000 home that needed updating and some repairs; make the repairs & update the home mostly by themselves; and end up with a home worth $150,000. Or, they could buy $150,000 home and still want to at least make some cosmetic changes to it - and we all know that's not cheap either. They're really nice people so I hope they have many happy years in that house. We had baked fish for dinner, with some seasoned bean sprouts & radish kimchi. It was tasty! Hope you're all doing well! I love y'all! ... Gonna take out the trash & move the trashcart to the curb.

Good morning~! It's a mild, but heavily overcast morning. Currently 56 with a wind advisory and a 'red flag fire warning' that both go into effect at 10 a.m. Supposed to be warm today. My bff, Carol, called last evening and we had a good chat. Settling up and closing estates was part of the discussion. Her daughter is really close to closing Carol's ex-husband's estate. He passed away 6 years ago so this has really drug on due to him not having well documented instructions. Praying for you as you close your Dad's estate and take care of those few things left to do to close your Mom's estate, Mel. I'm going to not waste this day off, so I'll see y'all later! Hope you and all have a great day!

Good morning! It was 37 degrees here this morning and expected to get up into the low 50s by this afternoon. All three of my little squirrel friends are running around my yard, playing, and generally being goofy this morning. Praying for you as you close your Dad's estate and take care of those few things left to do to close your Mom's estate, Mel. I am thankful that my parents did have everything in order to make handling their estates as easy as possible. The only real snag that I had that caused things to drag out this long is the fact that Mom died so soon after Dad while we were still in the process of getting some of his investments transferred over to her name. So I had to go through the court in order to get those things moved from his estate to hers. Thankfully, their lawyer was able to guide me through the process with as little fuss as possible. Praying for all needs today and hoping you all have a great day!

There is a huge grass fire about 3 miles east of us and 2-3 miles south. An evacuation within a 4-mi radius of a small community at the crossroads of 2 state intersections in that area is being evacuated at present. The wind has been really roaring most of the afternoon. We were having 45-50 mph winds. I had trouble walking against it in the commissary parking lot. It was almost surreal driving home because of all the dust in the sky. We haven't had a dust storm like this in years. It's 77 right now. Not sure if that's the high, or if it's on the way back down. I went by the thrift store today & de-listed the only hoodie that didn't sell - it has a Baylor logo on the front. I'll reduce the price & re-list it next month, hopefully it will sell then. I didn't see anything else that I had consigned - 5 Christmas items; & 3 button front sweaters of Edward's (which I guess means they sold). The thrift store will be closed from December 18th - January 3rd. I'll be looking over the next 2 weeks for items I can consign next month, lol. Hope things are going well with y'all and your loved ones this Friday evening.

Good morning ☀️ 55 degrees here, damp & foggy. Rougher day yesterday, due to unable to sleep well the night before plus the weather yesterday.
Thankfully, I know better & lower what I can do physically on those days.
Thankfully The day before, on Thursday, I was more on target!
DH & I even got to get to a store, right after he arrived home from work, & picked up some rosemary mini trees as gifts for our four neighbors!
One neighbor that we’ve known since our move here & kids grew up together, get our mail in when we r away, & gives us a popcorn tin that our DS looks forward to getting from us lol unless the grands get into it first! Another always presents us with a beautiful poinsettia plant ... they all keep an eye out especially while we are away.
I used to enjoy baking goodies that we would deliver, but I haven’t since the last few Christmas we’d been busy with grands & what with the strangeness of :-X I don’t bake to give away anymore.
Today, chores before we drive to a restaurant for a dinner with the few Sunday school folks that will make. We haven’t done that either in a few years, due to grands as family childcare or get togethers trumps everything else! Thankful we are able to get to this one as another couple is retiring and moving away, they’ve sold their house & bought an RV to travel & live in.
DH May get the fertilizer down for the weeds & pressure wash the deck & old furniture out there, today. I’m hoping to finish up a few indoor chores, as well as pay some bills to post on our way out later. ‘Hope to leave here around 3, as the restaurant is about 30 mins away, opens at 4 and have lines forming even earlier! I’ve never been, so that’s another incentive for me to go! lol
Group hug

Good morning! It was 37 at 8 a.m. and now up to 41, so the temperature isn't going up too fast here this morning. Only supposed to reach 55 today, about average for this time of year. It's a little breezy, which makes it feel chillier. I've cleaned up in the master bath, and in the kitchen this morning. I do best when there's a lot of sunshine coming in the windows, like this morning. The Army-Navy game comes on at 2 pm and I want to watch it, so I plan to sit down and sort papers while it's on. ... And either today or tomorrow, I need to send out some Christmas cards. Sounds like you have a great afternoon planned, Jeanette! I'll be interested in hearing what that restaurant is like, being that it's so popular. A beautiful piece of London broil had been recently marked down & put in the reduced meat case at the commissary yesterday so I had to bring it home, lol. It's thawing in the fridge & I think I'll fix it for dinner today. Hope y'all have a great Saturday!

I'm really happy to hear this! Here, masks are optional-but-encouraged. The grands are wearing masks because all of their friends & teachers are wearing masks. Parents had to sign an opt-out form & that makes 'those' kids different & so somewhat ostracized. I think that's terrible, but I don't have any input to that so I keep my mouth shut. Our governor is opposed to any mandates, which is one of the reasons I support him.

Ok, trying not to rant about a woman who now "fancies herself" as someone who is all "in the know" about God, scriptures, and what's happening in the world today. You'll notice I didn't succeed at 'not' being snarky even in my description of her. I'm going to send her an apology on messenger because I'm sure I came across as 'harsh' when I suggested she throw away some book she has that sounds like a drill sgt's manual. It restates God's Word, then lists 3 scriptures at the bottom of the page. I responded that it's dangerous to twist scripture as if it an author's own writing. She responded with the 3 scriptures written out. I assured her I'd read them, and I stood by what I said, adding that all one needs is the Bible and a good study guide. She's been taken in by the Qanon stuff, and who knows what else. But she's a bright gal, smart-friendly-funny, and I hate to see her led down the garden path ... I know I'm capable of being a 'bull in a china shop', even when I think I've toned down whatever I'm thinking before I say it. And I'm not always right. So, here I go to tell her that, and I hope things turn out okay. If she blocks me, that'll be okay too. We used to work out together at the gym, then she was fired as the trainer & she moved to Minnesota. She's back here now & thinking of opening her own fitness studio. (I wished her best of luck on that a couple of days ago, but I'm not planning to go join up [didn't say that last part].)

It's cooling off quick, and the wind has come up. One of the neighbors is burning mesquite wood in their fireplace. I love the scent of mesquite! Haven't heard back from the gal I apologized to. She didn't block me, however. Navy beat Army, 17-13. It was a battle of defenses. I'm always kinda blue when the regular college football season ends. 💙 Hope yall have had a good day!
