Did you know that you can now get ancestry DNA test kits for your cats and dogs? I hadn't seen that brand, but DNA testing for dogs was really big around here a few years back. When we changed vets, our current vet said we really oughta test Leela, "just for fun", because "it would be a hoot to know what's in her!" Sweet little Leela We haven't done it yet, but I'd like to in the spring. Edward had a good laugh over the Puppy for Hanukkah video.
Here are 3 pictures of Leela, to give you an idea of her size. I accidentally cut off half her head in the one photo, because I was really focusing on taking a pic of FaithyJ. FaithyJ is the biggest dog I've probably ever had. She's long & tall, and probably the heaviest - tho' she has lost some weight since I've figured out how to find the calorie count on the dog food cans and bags. ... btw, this is the courtyard out front. We had that wrought iron fence put in after we bought the house so we could let the dogs out front. It's not a real big area, but amazing how nice it is to have it.

Good morning! It was 23 at 7 a.m., and dropped to 20 at 8 a.m. The sun is shining on the heavy frost that covers everything outside. Franny & FaithyJ have had a ball out back this morning. Fran likes the cold; it just stirs Faithy's hound dog blood, I think, tho' she doesn't care for 'too' much cold. You motivated me, Mel - I have some Christmas cards ready to go out in today's mail. Our freedom fighters group had a meeting yesterday. I turned in a couple of recall petitions I'd been carrying. I told Edward before I headed out to the meeting that the main reason I was trekking out into the cold & wet was to get those petitions turned in - "I'm working on clearing off my plate!" Don't know if that's a popular phrase these days, but we used to say that a lot in defense contracting, like, "my plate's full", "don't add one more thing to my plate unless you take something off", "got that project off my plate". I miss defense contracting some days. Hope you all have a great Monday!

Good morning! It is a chilly mid 30s here this morning with a sloppy mix of rain and snow. Just enough to make things good and slippery. But not enough for many people to get the message to slow down to a sensible speed.

Could the subject of this article be why so many liberal leaders are so determined to shut down public worship in their states as part of their Covid-19 mandates? Survey: Frequent Churchgoers Only Group That Did Not Experience Declining Mental Health in 2020According to a new Gallup survey, frequent church attendees were the only group of Americans who did not experience a decline in their mental health or emotional wellbeing throughout 2020, The Christian Post reports. The survey, which has been conducted annually since 2001, called American adults to partake in Gallup’s November Health and Healthcare survey. The research found that a record low 34 percent of Americans described their mental health as “excellent.” There was also a record low of Americans who said their mental health was “excellent/good” (76 percent). According to Gallup, almost every demographic subgroup saw a decline in the state of their mental health from 2019 to 2020. Conversely, Americans who attended weekly religious services were found to have a more positive state of mind, with a reported 46 percent who rated an “excellent” state of mental health. The figure is an increase from last year's results, where 42 percent said their mental health was “excellent.” www.christianheadlines.com/contributors/milton-quintanilla/frequent-churchgoers-did-not-experience-declining-mental-health-in-2020-survey.html

Rain, sleet, snow, and now fog ... it's been a day of it. None of it too heavy or serious, just enough to require bundling up & taking care not to slosh through the water puddles in anything less than boots. Little Leela scared us this morning. We were gone 2 hours, 9:30-11:30. She was fine, when we left; Edward gave her a milk bone when we came back, and she started making a honking, choking noise within a couple minutes. She's really hyperactive, and she's the "talker" dog. She seemed frantic, plus making that noise. She kept trying to gag up something. I was afraid she had something cross-wise in her throat - she is our little stick chewer, after all. I was afraid she might eventually run out of air! She would calm down for about a minute & then start all over. We probably weren't home 15 minutes till I called the vet's office. We grabbed our coats, leashed Leela, and flew half way back across town, even more or less running a red light at the edge of a school zone. (There wasn't anyone around, it wasn't unsafe; I thanked Edward for doing that.) We can't go inside - all the vets are curbside only, but they were expecting us so came right out & carried her in. The vet gave her a shot of a mild sedative, but admitted afterward that it wasn't really going to slow her down much for a bit. An x-ray showed nothing stuck in her esophagus, but her trachea was partially collapsed, and her lungs "aren't the prettiest". She may have "inflammatory lung disease". The vet said it's not uncommon with chihuahuas, yorkies, all the little breeds; it's due to overbreeding over the years. Anyway, Leela got to come home. The vet's assistant scanned in my drivers license & then gave me a handful of pill bottles. Leela has an anti-inflammatory, an antibiotic, and a narcotic that will keep keep her trachea open. We're going to report back on her in 24-48 hrs, and again in a week. She's lost a little weight, but needs to lose more. For her sake, we're going to add her & Franny to the "meal-feed" plan instead of the "free-feed" plan they've always lived on (FaithyJ has been on the "meal-feed" plan since she had almost half her teeth pulled just over a year ago). This may make you chuckle - the vet said a whole milk bone has as many calories as bacon. I haven't checked that out yet, but I'm going to.

Good evening! It was a beautiful sunny day here, but we are under a Winter storm warning for tomorrow morning through Thursday morning with 12 to 18 inches of snow expected. That's a potful of snow! Could the subject of this article be why so many liberal leaders are so determined to shut down public worship in their states as part of their Covid-19 mandates? Survey: Frequent Churchgoers Only Group That Did Not Experience Declining Mental Health in 2020I suspect you're right. The devil can't risk having those believers maintaining & even increasing in their mental health stamina, & outlook on life!!! It makes me feel like cheering.
I was talking yesterday with a couple of tenants who have a graphics shop. The husband was sharing that he can't hardly believe how calm he is, and how much joy he has in his life these days, in spite of everything in the news (covid & the election in particular). He hadn't received merchandise that he was expecting to have on display by now for Christmas sales. He said he can't explain it any other way than that it's all thanks to God ... the Holy Spirit is filling him up on a daily basis.
There have been down and depressed days in my life, and a surprising amount of disgust with "stupid people", since March 16th, but I've felt a lot of that peace and joy as well. Some days more recently, I've felt almost downright giddy.
My tenants & I are not setting dates - we've all prefaced our remarks with, "Y'know we can't/don't know the day or time, but ..." and then we've shared about how expectant we are of Christ's impending return to rapture us.
_______________________________ My cousin Joyce, who has told me off for suggesting she open up a Bible and see how much God has to offer, compared to all of the false religions she chases after, may tell me off again after my response to a facebook post she made today. She posted a meme that included a smiling Buddha in the left half, and a hand holding a wad of bills that would choke a horse in the right half. The remark with it: "Japanese say that every time we share the image of a smiling Buddha, we receive money, or very good news". My cousin's comment was that it "Can't hurt". I haha'd the post and commented: "Well, I think I'll pass. It might negatively affect God's view of how I spent my day. " Yeh, I know - I was "poking the bear", as Edward says, but heh, she runs after everything but Christianity, and has found no fulfillment, but that hasn't given her a clue that Christianity might just be the one that's different.

I know what you mean. As frustrated as I sometimes get with both the way that our leaders have handled things this whole year and also with the way so many of my relatives and friends have just blindly accepted it all, I can honestly say that overall I am at peace with what ever happens. Even if Covid-19 really were as bad as it is claimed to be (and I don't believe for one second that it is), I really don't get why so many even in the church are so fearful of it. For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain. (Phil.1:21)
I do believe that it is highly likely that Christ's impending return to gather His people is extremely close; but even if it isn't and I live out a normal lifespan, I will almost certainly be seeing heaven in far less years than what I have already lived on this Earth. And when that time comes, the chaos of 2020 will be the most minor of annoyances net even worth thinking about anymore.
(Hope that made sense the way that I worded it.)

That makes perfectly good sense!
Thanks, Mel and Jeanette, for your prayers for Leela. That sedative shot finally kicked in around 2 & she slept a couple of hours. Edward laid down just after 5 and she was tickled to go back to bed and nap with him. He pulled her red plush throw over her and she slept soundly for over another hour. She seems to be feeling a little better, but she's still honking a little bit and she realizes she's "not quite right". We're putting her on a schedule for meds, and all on schedule for foods. May take a few days to get used to it, but it will be okay. We're praying that Leela makes a good recovery - she's only 6 yrs & 10 months.

Good morning! It is 19 degrees and very windy here this morning. That is quite a change from the beautiful warm sunny day that we had yesterday. The snow is now expected to start around 10 AM and continue into tomorrow morning with more snow possible tomorrow night into Friday. The weather map this morning is showing our area right on the borderline between the regions that are expecting 10 to 14 inches and the ones that are expecting 14 to 20 inches. Pray for all needs today.
