Good morning! It is a chilly 32 degrees here this morning with a high of 50 forecast for this afternoon.
I must have been even more tired than I thought last night. I went to bed early and slept strait through till morning. I can't remember the last time that I did that without waking up at least once or twice during the night.
I didn't realize I'd hit 5,000 posts! Wow! It's been fun. We're a small group, but I really enjoy being online with y'all - Jeanette, Mel, Scott, Amy ... Edward enjoys your company too - he doesn't read here, but I'll tell him what's going on from time-to-time and he's friends with Amy on facebook so he sees some amount of your posts and comments there too. I always look forward to my daily visits to our little online family here.
Our little group of like minded Christian friends is like a breath of fresh air compared to the way things are most places these days both online and off. I do occasionally miss the pre Facebook days when some of the previous versions of our RR/PF community had 1000's of active members and 100's who posted regularly on an almost every day basis. At times I also miss the regular debates and in depth discussions that used to go on in the Bible Study, Apologetics, and Rapture Doctrine sub forums. One thing I don't miss though is the way things used to occasionally get very angry and heated in some of the discussions when certain former members would get involved in certain topics.
The receipt said starting balance was -0-, transfer amount was $16.82, end balance $16.82. I checked the card online and it really does have $16.82 on it. That's an odd amount: $16.82. Maybe it was a refund for something. Our Walmart here has a policy that if you return something with a value of more than $10 without the receipt you get your refund in the form of a store gift card rather than getting the cash. Even if you do have the receipt, they usually encourage you to choose the card.
Praying for all needs today and wishing you all a wonderful day!

Good morning ☀️
Window guy was in to replace & repair a couple of issues early yesterday morning.
Pest guy due in today to retreat for roaches. 🥴 One scurried across the parlor floor last Friday night. DH killed it. I called right then so as not to forget. I don’t mind all other pests but these are my nemesis.
DD#4 & kiddos have been here 4 weeks already and may be staying forever or March or whenever. California is even worse re the dictator & restrictions than the one in charge here in North Carolina. DD#4’s deployment is extended. :-X

If DD#4's really staying at least a year, I hope she & the kiddos might find a home to rent & move all the belongings there from Cali. I cringed when they went to Cali to start with - I know I wouldn't be happy with DS & L living out there, the way things are. Dictatorship is right!
I'm praying for the best for you, your hubby, and all of your kiddos and their families.

Even if you do have the receipt, they usually encourage you to choose the card. That makes good sense! Edward pointed out that if I hadn't picked it up, maintenance might have swept it up & thrown it away without ever looking at it on their next restroom service. He knew I was feeling kinda bad, like I was taking someone's money when I should have found them & returned it, but that wasn't feasible.
I headed off to Wal-Mart a little earlier this morning than I usually would have. I used part of the card to buy canned dogfood, and part of the card to buy canned pasta w/meat (meat sauce, meatballs) for donating to the Food Bank. The local TV station had drop boxes in the store for donations. I went on by Whataburger, which is just around the corner, and picked up a breakfast sandwich for each of us.
We've been pretty busy so far today. I renewed the home warranty policy on our 2 nice rentals. The salesman was trying to sell me a 2-yr plan, but I said no, I don't plan to own these rentals more than another year, I hope. Had a surprise call from a past tenant this morning. The rent is going up wherever he's living now, and he's already behind. He knew about MikeJ passing away, and he's interested in renting his old apartment. The tenant was in a home invasion a couple of years ago and was shot in the stomach; he's never really healed up from that too well.* We may work something out, I'm hoping. On a sad note, his brother-in-law, who used to mow for us until he had a pretty bad heart attack, recently passed away. I didn't know that. I'm going to have to go on the hunt for his obituary now. We've lost a lot of people this year, and not from covid-19, thankfully.
Well, I'm off to re-size photos for Edward; he's having problems with the photo editing program. See y'all later!
*Home invasion did not occur at any property I own; it happened at the next place he lived after he moved out of the place I owned.

I always look forward to coming here too.
Facebook is a pretty rough place. If I thought I could really get off of facebook totally, I think I would do it. But, there's family I'd never hear from again since almost no one calls, emails, or sends snail mail any more. Some of those family I really don't want to lose touch with. There's also some amount of business need for being on facebook, even if not as great as a couple of years ago.
Some days I think it would be fun to go back to the RR that was when I first joined, early in the year 2000, and simply read threads and reminisce over "people I knew when." I have no idea what happened to most of them.
I'm wondering how our buddy, Scott, is doing. Haven't seen much of him lately.
I've spent most of the past hour on the phone chatting with our HOA President. Brainstorming. I enjoy that man - he's a retired Army officer, not quite a decade older than me but closer than not. We see the world in a similar fashion.
Not nearly as far along as I thought I would be on projects today, but at this point, I think starting dinner is probably the best idea.
Hope each and all of you are doing well this late afternoon.

And in another of those news stories about liberals that seem like they just have to be satire but are apparently actually true: Seattle City Council Poised for a Breakthrough in Eliminating Most Property Crime -- Make It LegalTwo months ago Seattle City Councilwoman Lisa Herbold proposed legislation under the guise of a budget bill that would, for all practical purposes, eliminate the prosecution of approximately 90% of all misdemeanor crimes in Seattle through the creation of an affirmative defense to conviction of “duress” stemming from poverty, homelessness, substance addiction, or mental illness. Herbold is the Chairperson of the Council’s Community Safety Committee, but rather than push her proposal through that Committee in a fashion that might draw attention, she submitted the language creating a “duress” defense to property crimes to the Council’s Budget Committee, to be buried in the City’s next budget bill, and made only a brief 3-minute presentation on the proposal in an online Budget Committee meeting — captured on YouTube. Her justification for submitting the proposal in such a stealthy fashion buried in a budget bill was that the proposal would likely reduce City expenditures to provide legal defense services to indigent defendants, as well as saving on money paid to King County for jail services In her comments during the hearing, she makes reference to the mush-minded nonsense about poverty and homelessness having as their root causes systemic racism. She claims the recommendation derives from the work of the “Seattle Re-Entry Work Group” which was created by legislation in 2015 to examine how the City could assist formerly incarcerated people to re-enter their communities. The Work Group’s final report found that poverty is caused by institutionalized racism and systemic oppression, all of which lead to mass incarceration. They further found that punishment and incarceration are harmful and ineffective tools to address behaviors triggered by poverty and illness. redstate.com/shipwreckedcrew/2020/12/06/seattle-city-council-poised-for-a-breakthrough-in-eliminating-property-crime-make-it-legal-n290086

That councilwoman is a true-blue nutcase; certifiable. She needs court-ordered mental health treatment. Anyone with any sense at all would say the same thing. Great quote way down in the article pretty much sums up the problem she's pretending to provide help for:
The article ends with this great line!:

Hello! Happy Hanukkah ~ This is a holiday that puts smiles on my face and joy in my heart. I'm reading an ebook titled, Hanukkah: A bright light in dark times. It talks about Antiochus IV, and calls him both 'divine' and a 'madman'. It's an interesting bit of history. I'll just share this long, opening: It's only a 40 page book, and it's free for simply providing an email address. We have a coldfront coming through today. For this morning, however, it was 20 degrees warmer (47) than yesterday morning (27). I'm heading out to bring up the trashcart from the road, run some errands, and clear off my work table. See y'all later! Hope each and all are having a healthy, productive Friday.

I'd never heard of A Puppy for Hanukkah so when I stopped to pick up milk earlier this afternoon, I loaded it on my phone and listened to it. It is soooo cute! I'm almost afraid to play it for Edward. He's wanting a middle-aged male dog to "show up with us", the way dogs sometimes have in the past. I agree with him that we need a male dog in the pack. These 3 females often act like they're actually 3 little girls who are 12, 11, and 9. If we had a male dog with a pleasant personality who got along with other dogs, he'd settle them down. tee-hee It's really turning cold outside. We went out to look at the long side of the privacy fence, and the short side across the back. We're going to replace some of the boards soon, but not this weekend - weather is not going to be warm enough. I had on a light jacket, and it was not enough. I need a sweater at least - and maybe warmer socks! I think I'll wander into the kitchen and heat up some coffee; I'll grab a sweater along the way. Lol
