Good afternoon! It's 93 and we're under an Air Quality Alert till 6 pm due to smoke from the north and probably SE too. I'm in high spirits this afternoon. Franny, surprisingly, didn't act the least bit afraid or nervous about getting in the car - she hopped in, which I would not have expected her to be able to do, with her arthritis. She didn't shake at all, all the way across town to the vet. She hopped out, walked around the parking lot & climbed up over a wooden landscape timber to get to some green grass. She went in with the vet's assistant with no fear and was just as active & happy when she came back out. They're doing "curbside only" because they're so short-staffed. I knew this vet years back - she was the other vet at the animal hospital we typically went to. She decided to open her own place after a few short years so did. When I needed to change vets, someone told me she had closed her office and left town - was reportedly that afraid of covid. I told her how I found her - messaged her former assistant earlier in the week to see if she was anywhere around here, told her I was prepared to go to Chickasha, Marlow, Frederick ... and he'd answered, "Barb! She's at CREEKSIDE! Just call her!" She had a good laugh out of that. She said Franny looks really good, and she was surprised that she's almost 15. Believe me, I feel so much better now. I told her Franny is her patient from now till the end of her days! I like the vet we're using, but I don't much trust her staff. If they go to curbside only this fall or winter, I will probably move Leela & Milo over to Creekside too. Gotta get to work - see y'all later!

The weather here stayed chilly all day, but the next 7 days are all forecast to reach the upper 90s. It's only 10 PM, but I'm feeling very sleepy. I think that I am going to get ready for bed. Good night!

Happy Friday evening! I think it might have briefly touched 100 this afternoon. Got all kinds of stuff done at the office, even if I was only there 3 hours. I dismissed the small claims case I had coming up on Tuesday morning, which was a biggy. Had to run home & get that wad of cash I collected yesterday afternoon. I couldn't believe I forgot that! Oh, and I actually found somebody still working at the state section 8 office after 4 p.m. on a Friday; a Friday before a holiday no less! That was a biggy too. The owner, who was here visiting today from out of state, admitted to Nita that she'd rather rent a particular 2-BR, 1-1/2 baths house that one of our section 8 tenants wanted to rent for the amount the state office would qualify him for (about $100 less than she wanted to collect in rent on it) than to have it continue setting empty. When I finally got the tenant on the phone this afternoon, he was thrilled with the news. I called the state office & talked the situation through with one of their techs and she got the tenant's file into shape where our updated request makes sense. I emailed her and she said they'll get right on with scheduling an inspection for him when they come back on Tuesday. We had a phenomenally delicious dinner this evening. I picked up a large order of lo mein from the Japanese restaurant at the mall. Seasoned & sauteed a couple of turkey cutlets. Edward cut up a white onion & some orange bell pepper; opened a jar of shiitake mushrooms and a jar of chili garlic sauce. And I made a stir-fry sauce to cook up, let thicken and mix up with the vegetables. We piled lo mein on our plates, added some cut up turkey cutlet, and then put stir-fried vegetables with the thickened sauce on top of that; & added however much chili garlic sauce we each wanted (yes, it's spicy! ). Oh, my goodness, it was so tasty. I was about halfway through my dinner & I told Edward that I didn't think we could have found a better oriental dinner anywhere around here. I don't say that because I cooked it, but because it came together just as it should. I found the vegetable stir-fry recipe on the 'recipe tin eats' site, which is Japanese.
Hope you each and all have a great Labor Day!

Good morning! It is another chilly morning here, but we are forecast to really heat up as the day goes on and stay hot for the next several days. As tired as I was last night, I didn't sleep too well, and when I did fall asleep for a little while, my dreams were very disturbing.

Barb, your Lo Mein meal sounds really good. I had been planning to make a meatloaf for my dinner today, but now I'm thinking about ordering some Asian take out instead.

I got groceries and a few other things that I needed at Walmart this morning. For the first time in quite a while, I was able to get everything on my list.

‘Morning Folks! Temperature here at 9:30am is 66 degrees. Humidity is 84%
‘Got up an cooked breakfast for everyone, sat outside with DH, as we ate last and we’re blessed with seeing a hawk fly into the yard! He had gotten something in the grass, as he picked up his head we could see it was a snake! As he flew off it was hanging from both sides of his beak!
DH has gone with DD#4, kiddos & their dog to a park.
~~~~~
There was a lot of chaos & mayhem here yesterday!
I made a potato salad, as I had planned on DH’s grilling burgers, eventually.
DD#3 came by with her 3 kiddos yesterday, late afternoon. Thankful that I made it to the store & picked up burgers on Wednesday!
Our Lord provided the burgers at a marked down price to sell by 8/31! I picked up three packs with four burgers in each and they were really good! Store brand, Tavern style was on the label.
DH went and picked up rolls, hot dogs and chips once we learned DD#3 was on the way here.
Crafts of painting shells, rocks and nails for kiddos. Nerf battle & ball tossing. Fire pit & s’mores last evening.
DH did a lot with the grands.
My oh my! Overwhelming but as usual doable!
I kept letting the grands know that although there are five (or more) of them (telling me stuff, wanting stuff & my attention, or whatever) there’s only one of me & I am only able to focus on one kiddo/task at a time! lol
Thankful for this day! Thankful for otc & RX for UTI!
May you all have a blessed day!
Good morning! It's 87 at 11 a.m. with barely a breath of wind. The air quality alert continues till almost midnight tonight. I'm heading to the bank to make a deposit; picking up an Rx for Sweetie at the pharmacy; heading to recycle on Ft. Sill; stopping at the commissary for a few groceries; and then might circle back to Wal-Mart for anything I couldn't get at the commissary, like avocados. College football starts at 11 a.m. too. Okla U is playing an Arkansas team. Football will last till about 11 tonight. We're having baked fish fillets and salad for dinner - something simple. I loved your telling your grands that there's only 1 of you!, Jeanette. Reminded me of my late-MIL working at the Catholic church with the ladies group during festivals. She was Polish; most of the ladies were Mexican. She didn't speak their language but most of them spoke English. She could have passed for Hispanic. The little kids would run in and out of the church kitchen wanting her to do this, that, and the other thing for them. They usually called her "Abuela!" I finally told her they were calling her "Grandma!" She loved them all. Sometimes she'd tell this one little boy who really liked her apparently, "Speak English! I don't know what you want!" He had the cutest little giggle, and he'd crack up laughing and ask her in English. Those events always wore her out - she was in her mid-to-late 60s at the time - but she thoroughly enjoyed them. Hope you have a restful day, Mel. See y'all later!
Hello! No idea what was going on around town this afternoon, but there was a lot of traffic on the streets. This is a small town - these days, it's just unusual to see the streets full of cars. . I was able to get pretty much everything on my list at the commissary so I skipped going to Walmart. I did stop in at Aldi's, which is directly across the street from Wal-Mart, for a half gal of milk & 2 packages of turkey tenderloins. I usually buy milk at Wal-Mart, but I wasn't going to wade through that sea of humanity over there just to get a half gallon of milk. Did you order Chinese for dinner, Mel? I hadn't had any lunch & I was hungry so I warmed up the bit of lo mein that was left from last night, added a few splashes of soy sauce, and enjoyed that between putting up the cold food & canned goods. I've since baked fish and we've polished off the little bit of green salad that was in the refrigerator. This googley-eyed trash can cracks me up! We have one that has a flip-top lid. Milo - of course! - has figured out that he can kick up the lid with his nose just long enough to grab something out of it. It would be hilarious if I could rig up a tape that turns on when he does that, and my voice firmly tells him, "Milo! Back away!" I think it would shock him! Hope you're all having a great Saturday. Edward has been thoroughly immersed in college football since 11 a.m. He's a happy camper in the living room.
Did you order Chinese for dinner, Mel? Not this time. I decided to go with the meatloaf that I was originally planning to make. I've been spending too much on take out food lately. I need to get back in the habit of cooking for myself and making big batches that can be prepped and stored for several meals. I do enjoy cooking, but I hate to go to all of the mess to make fancy recipes just for myself. I miss cooking meals to eat with my parents like I did most days for the last couple of years that they lived. I miss too the dinners that Sharon and I used to make together on the one or two days per week that our work schedules allowed us both to be home for supper.
I miss too the dinners that Sharon and I used to make together on the one or two days per week that our work schedules allowed us both to be home for supper. That makes sense, really. Making up some dinner meals that you really enjoy and freezing them makes sense, especially with winter coming on. If I make an involved recipe, like that sauce last evening, then I want to make something quick & simple the next evening - like baked fish fillets, and green salad that we can cut up some red onion, tomato, whatever we have on hand and add to personalize our individual plates. That's easy & doesn't make many dishes to wash. Edward just walked in here to tell me Milo stood up to one of the kitchen counters and grabbed a dish towel. He was having a ball shaking it back and forth. Edward told him to drop it, so he did. Milo came running to me and wanted me to stick up for him, I think. We need to go through the towels and see if there's an old one we can give him.
