It is getting really dark here.
There is no rain in our forecast for today, but the sky sure looks like a storm is brewing.

Well ... batten down the hatches, Mel! Hope you don't have any bad storms, predicted or pop-up types. Y'all have a great day! I've got to run - have a section 8 re-inspection right after lunch, and a bunch of work orders to send out to contractors. Need to interview a new contractor also - hope he's good & reasonably priced. See y'all later!

These are great, Mel! King Kong cat, and pumpkin spice brake pads ... Really tired this evening. We watched a few episodes of Corner Gas. It's very funny, and yet, clean - a family show. I'm heading to bed. Hard to believe it's the end of the week. See y'all tomorrow.

Good morning! Happy Friday to all who come by here today! It's 65 at 9:30 and the wind has died down. It was really chilly last night with a steady 20 mph wind. Our high today is expected to reach the upper 90s. We're having chili for dinner, a good Friday night meal, even if it's not chilly outside. It's just Nita & me at the office till October 3rd and it's the last week of the month so we're hoping for a lot of peace & quiet to file leases, catch up on work order postings, and post utility bills to tenant accounts. We'll get a lot done if we don't have a lot of people walking in the door or ringing the phone for goofy reasons, like the tenant who called yesterday demanding to know if her house had a metal roof, because that's the only thing someone could figure out was blocking her wifi connection. Nita had to work to keep from sarcastically telling the woman to step outside and look up! Hope y'all have a great day! later: DS called & we chatted while he was driving up to the last town outside OKC. He's had some health issues - the first one, which could have been a cancer, proved to be a non-problematic cyst. He was told not to worry about it unless it grows and/or causes pain. I'm thankful for answered prayers! The second issue is one of his knees, which he's had an MRI on and it shows he has past damage there in the meniscus and a cyst has developed. Said he won't be surprised if he has to have surgery on that. It was good to talk to DS and get each other caught up! Yes, we just got off the phone, so this is on my mind. Hehe The process server called immediately after DS & I hung up - we planned out her getting some people served this evening. And then, a social worker with VA called to ask for some paperwork she needs to give a support group that is helping one of our new tenants. So now, I'm avoiding spam calls (typical for the end of the month, I guess!) and gotta wrap up the morning so I can head to the office. Love you guys!

Nita had to work at not sarcastically telling the woman to step outside and look up! The more than 30 years that I spent working in retail and customer service type jobs has proven to me that there is no question so dumb that someone won't ask it eventually! One of my all time favorites was a lady who came into the K-mart store where I had my first job and totally flipped out on the person working at the photo counter about why did we print all of her pictures upside down? The manager of that department apologized to her and promised to reprint them correctly right away. He walked into the stock room, turned the stack of pictures right side up, put them back into the envelope, and returned the "new" batch of pictures to her. She couldn't have been happier with the "new" right side up ones.

Good morning! Earlier this morning I turned on the furnace for the first time this year. Our overnight temperature got down to 40. At 8 AM it is still only 45. Time to get the laundry started. Hope you all have a great weekend!

That 'Weekend has Landed' meme is a great one, Mel! I'm keeping a copy - may use it next Friday afternoon on fb. Beautiful morning here ... 80 at 10 a.m. Supposed to reach the high 90s this afternoon. Hope your walk for life has gone well this morning, Jeanette - that's awful humidity! I have a load of laundry in the washer that's nearly ready to go in the dryer, and a load of dishes in the dishwasher and they're almost done too, so getting with the program this morning. The brisket for tomorrow's dinner will be going in the oven soon. I'm trying a gal's recommendation of how to get it to bake up to 'melt-in-you-mouth' doneness vs 'tough-as-shoeleather' doneness. We'll see if it works. One thing, the brisket bakes for about 5 hours total, being turned several times, cools, gets sliced, and goes in the fridge overnight. Yesterday, I decided to stop at Hobby Lobby after work to see if they'd re-stocked the 2-shelf table I missed buying to set by my desk at the office. They hadn't, but they'd put on display another nice table with 2 drawers and a bottom shelf. It's 42" long by 15" wide. That oughta fit the space pretty well, with maybe 6" to spare. It was the only one they had, but 2 employees jumped right in to remove the display items and set up a different piece of furniture in their window while I checked out. The one employee carried it out to the Tahoe for me & I was onto the next stop. Same street, couple blocks north, I stopped at Sam's Club & filled up the gas tank. Went on across the parking lot to Wal-Mart and picked up some fresh produce. By then, it was after 6:30! I was heading home, and had reached the next north-south section line when I whipped into a parking lot & called Edward. If I came home & made the pot of chili I had planned, we wouldn't eat till around 9. I asked him about pizza - ? He had the idea to try a place we've been wanting to check out that was close by. He ordered & off I went to pick up. They were selling pizzas like hot cakes, so I had to wait a few minutes for our pie to bake. Oh, my gosh, it was the best crust we've had on any pizza in years! We've decided to go there for lunch one day soon - they have calzones & a decent price on a side salad! Good food, good price -- that's quite a combination these days. I've been having weird dreams & last night was filled with them ... Goofy things that happened with some tenants this past week at the big complex were interfering with my sleep. I didn't remember too much when I woke up, except the last dream on a totally other subject. The snippet I remember was this guy, who didn't exactly look like Edward but was supposed to be him, was helping me get the brisket in the oven. He was making fun of me over the onions I'd cut in rings because he didn't think I should bake them with the meat. He was bobbing and weaving around the kitchen counter instead of holding the meat so I could trim the fat. And then he said the pan I was going to put the brisket in was too small - whoever the dream Edward was, he hurt my feelings and I woke up all discombobulated. Y'know the real-life Edward has never treated me that way, so I don't know what old memories concocted the guy in the dream. It took a good 30 minutes, a cup of coffee, and a walk outside with the dogs before I got all woke up & in a good mood. College football games we'll be watching come on at 2:00 (Texas vs Texas Tech) and 6:30 (Okla Sooners vs Kansas). I hope y'all have a great Saturday!

Looking at our long range forecast for the next two weeks, every day is to be in the 60s or lower with night temperatures in the 40s, so I decided to go ahead and take the window air conditioner out this afternoon and pack it away for the year.
In the really unlikely event that we do get any more really hot days this year, I can always easily move one of the fans into whichever room I am in.

I did some grocery shopping this afternoon. The prices on many things were way up just from last week. My back yard isn't all that large, but I am seriously considering digging up most of it and putting in a garden next spring.
