Good morning! It is a rainy 67 degrees here this morning. The rain is expected to continue pretty much all day with thunder storms likely this afternoon and evening. I didn't sleep well again last night. One of my neighbors was having a party with very loud music blaring until the wee hours of the morning, and when they finally did knock it off we had a storm with lots of thunder and lightning. You can tell that Fall is near, there are lots of fallen leaves blowing around everywhere the last couple of days.

Good morning! Hi, Jeanette! Hi, Mel! It's a beautiful, sunny day here. We'll probably reach the mid-90s. A loud "Bang!" occurred and the power went out, about 10:40. It was barely off a minute before it came back on. No idea what happened. Dr. Jeffress' service this morning was really good. He started by telling how he had a ministry-changing occurrence the first time he preached on Lot and the Fall of Sodom & Gomorrah, in May of 1998. Prior to that time, he'd never stood up in public against major changes in our culture. But, a member of the church dropped by mid-week and asked if he knew these 2 children's books that promoted homosexuality were now in the public library? No, he didn't know that. They left him the books to look at, and asked him to do something about it. He thought the solution was to call the head librarian (this was in Wichita Falls, TX) so he did. He said she must not know these books were now in the library's children's section, and he briefly summarized the books. Went on to tell her 3 important points: 1) sodomy was illegal in the state of Texas at that time; 2) (can't remember the 2nd, but I think it had to do with tearing apart families); 3) the disease that the practice of homosexuality brought to the community was increasing in number and needed to be stopped (AIDS). He suggested she remove those books - he was sure she'd want to. Her response: "Not on your life!" He was floored! At that time, they broadcast their Sunday service live. So, Sunday morning he was going through the sermon & when he got to the place in his outline where the 2 angels appeared to Lot and started to turn down Lot's offer, that they spend the night at his house, because they would not survive the crime on the streets, he turned and looked directly into the camera lens and brought up the subject of those 2 children's books. He spoke directly to the City Council - told them they needed to take action to maintain good order in their city, etc., etc. and decide if they supported those children's books being in their library. He said no matter, if they thought those books were okay, "he had them in his hands and he wasn't giving them back!" That was the first time he'd stood up publicly against something that was in opposition to scripture. He chuckled and the congregation laughed & I certainly did too. He said he hadn't planned to do that - he just found himself doing it (Holy Spirit at work, you know - he didn't say that but it's my conclusion). That ^^^ started a firestorm. The local newspaper ran an editorial calling for his arrest for civil disobedience. The ACLU sued the city of Wichita Falls, and him too, I guess. There was a call for the removal of the church's tax exempt status. NBC, PBS, Rush Limbaugh, a major newspaper back east (may have been the Washington Post) all covered the story. He's been asked, over the years, if he had it to do over again, would he react the same way? Take the same stand? He said yes, he would. His point today remains the same as it was 25 years ago. Homosexuality is a very grave sin, and so are many other sins (he mentioned some) but God will restore a person and forgive their sins if they repent and do not continue in the sin. He said the truly deeper sin that underlies all of these sins is "rebellion against God." He cautioned us not to confuse God's tolerance with God's mercy. "Just because you haven't experienced consequences so far is because God is giving you one more chance ..." He was using Ecclesiastes 8:11-13 as his reference for this. He assured us, "God has great patience - see Ezekiel 33:11 where God says he takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but would rather they turn from their wicked ways and live - but eventually, God says, 'Enough!' There is a line in the sand ..." crossing it without immediate consequences doesn't make it acceptable, and doesn't mean a person will get away with it over time. _______________________________________ I know that's long, but I just felt compelled to share it. It was a great sermon. Hope you all have a wonderful Sunday!

I can relate to that meme too! I don't even pretend to be making an omelette. I just whip up a pan of scrambled eggs & add in whatever we'd like - maybe a little roast beef or chopped onion, and always shredded cheese. Our Corporal from Mississippi arrived around 7:30 last night. He's on foot - fuel pump went on the truck & he knows a guy who has a repair shop about halfway between here & where he brokedown. The guy brought a winch truck & towed his truck into the shop. Then the shop owner & his wife drove our soldier up here. He had to report for duty this morning. His NCO picked him up (he's a junior NCO - and appears to have a lot on the ball) for work this morning. We've got him pretty well settled into that half a duplex. Still need to get an heat & air unit installed in the bedroom. The new one is in the living room & it's cooling well. I was over there last evening & got him started; went back this afternoon with his lease. The contractor showed up about the time I left. Edward has worked on getting ready to have fiber installed tomorrow, nah, Tuesday morning & the switch from cable to it - that'll take out our DSL too. Man, are we coming into the 21st century, or what? Anyway, this has involved some heavy duty fall cleaning, and pulling up some old carpet & carpet pad. I'm heading back in the living room to sweep up dust, dog hair, carpet tack strip, old nails ... whatever else. And to polish the antique library table the printer sets on. We have to meet with a roof contractor at 10:30 in the morning.

It's only a little over two weeks into the new school year here, and the schools are already pushing the kids to sell things to fund raise for the school. So far my oldest great niece has been hitting me up to buy candy, candles, and magazine subscriptions to support the middle school. I ordered a couple of small things to make the girl happy, but I'm not going to be getting too much at these prices. When I was in school, a fundraiser was $1 or so for a fairly large candy bar. Now it is $15 for a bag of gummi bears or $20 for a box of peanut butter filled chocolates. And the cost of the magazine subscriptions is absolutely out of the question.

It has been a quiet evening here. So far, we haven't had any of the storms that were in the forecast. I took a nap early this afternoon, then did a few chores around the house, and now I'm just taking it easy and watching reruns of Law & Order SVU in my pajamas until I get sleepy enough to go turn in for the night (or fall asleep in front of the TV ).

I haven't bought any fundraising items in years. I can only imagine how expensive all that stuff is now. When stepDS was in strings, in junior high, I asked him to ask the instructor if I could simply make a donation (as opposed to buying holiday wrapping paper; candy bars; coated popcorn)? The instructor was thrilled because that meant they had use of the full amount vs having to split it at whatever percentage the wholesale company was going to take.

Hi, Jeanette! We have rain possibly moving into the area tonight. That's amazing - it's been dry for so long. We've been replacing light bulbs & sweeping up dog hair - both of those chores seem to be never-ending. We haven't had dinner, so we're taking a break for Edward's great grilled cheese sandwiches. We have some "Jambalaya Dirty Rice with Beef" - ready to eat, just heat it up in the microwave, so I'm heating up a pouch of that to try it out. I'll let you know. *wink* edited to add: We both liked the jambalaya. It's Hereford brand, whose corned beef is my favorite. The jambalaya was a little spicy, but not enough to leave my mouth burning. I'm surprised I found it half-priced, looking back on it. I'm not sure if it's a new item, or an item that's being discontinued. I'm going to see if there are more, and pick up a few packs to have on-hand, if they're still half-priced. I like quick foods like that for when we don't really have time to cook. I'm tired ... and sooo sleepy! I need to read my insurance claim info and make some notes. And then, I can go to bed! See y'all tomorrow>

Good morning! It's all of 67 this morning & only supposed to reach a high of 81 this afternoon. The rest of the week our highs are only supposed to be in the 70s. I'm not going to know how to act. Actually got a pretty good night's sleep and I'm thankful for that. Hope you all have a great Monday.

Light rain showers off & on and it's heavily overcast now.
I don't know what to do with this weather. Walked out of small claims court a few minutes ago & wished I had a jacket, lol. I texted Sweetoe & asked him to bring my jeans jacket - he & I are meeting the roofing contractor at 10:30.
