A few days ago the kid next door was telling us that somebody hit his car while it was parked in front of our house. Maria went out to look and reported back that there was no debris on the road. Nobody in either house heard anything either. I finally went out this morning to have a look. The front bumper is hanging down, the passenger side fender along with all of the lights on that side is destroyed and the tire is flat. That kid is lying! He must have hit something and then drove the car home. The tire is shredded all around and the rim has clearly been driven on.

from the video caption: THIS CAT WANTS SOME ATTENTION: A cat at a temple in Thailand crawled onto a monk's lap during New Year's Eve prayers to get some affection, but the monk tried to maintain his concentration. That young monk must be that cat's favorite human! I have a friend who spends about 6 months a year in Nepal. She speaks the language and teaches young monks-in-training English-as-a-Second Language. She's very active in the cat rescue program and the trap-neuter-release program both there and in the US when she's at home. She'd get a kick out of this video.

Hmmm, wonder if there's a dad in the house? He oughta be able to tell this kid's story is nonsense. would be an appropriate response to the kid.

It's great to be back at the gym. The trainer, 2 of the gals who were there this morning, and I were all groaning because we'd taken time off over Christmas & New Year's. My triceps are sooooo sore today from working out Thursday.

The manhunt on the Wichita Mts Wildlife Refuge ended today. The suspect was found dead about 9 a.m. this morning in an area that had been searched yesterday. The suspect appeared to have been building a fire, but didn't light it. Instead, he hanged himself. You can think what you want of that. I think we're missing a lot of the story, but we're not likely to get it. ... As for the child's mother, she made some statements in the past couple of days that paint her as being as guilty as the boyfriend was of causing the child's death. Her statements have allowed her to be tried in the court of public opinion and basically condemned to death. Of course, that won't likely happen in the actual legal system. I don't know if the police in Norman are looking to arrest her or if she's going to get off scott free. It's over for people here locally, and I'm glad that it is. This was pretty disturbing for this community. I'm heading to bed, and hope to sleep well. Our lawn man is coming at 10 a.m. tomorrow to do a second fall cleanup. I'm really looking forward to that.

Good afternoon! The wind is really "sweeping down the plain" today. We've reached the low 60s, already a few degrees above what was forecast, and the sun is brilliant. Lawn man had something come up so he's rescheduled for tomorrow afternoon. I'm fine with that - hopefully the wind will be calmer. Nearly freaked out when I turned on this PC, a few minutes ago. An onscreen message said Firefox had not closed down correctly, did I want to restore my settings? Well, I don't remember a problem with shutting down last evening, but whatever. I clicked the button for Restore. Firefox started grinding away, and when it had finished, I had a blank screen with the Google box in the middle of it. Sweetie found my Bookmarks Toolbar & restored it, then found the rest of my bookmarks - that list I've pared down by 2/3's but still have 1/3 left to copy into a Word doc. What a relief! ... you know what I'll be working on this afternoon. That plumber's apprentice above has a tough taskmaster for a trainer.

It is really cold here today. It was 21 degrees when I left for church this morning, and now this afternoon it has only gotten up to 29. It is really windy here today too. It snowed a little bit earlier this afternoon, but not enough to lay on the roads.
Tomorrow is supposed to warm up into the 40's, but then get colder again for the rest of the week with snow and/or freezing rain likely Tuesday PM.
I'm ready for Spring!

I've noticed that my Firefox had gotten really buggy (lots of freezing and crashes) ever since the last update in early December.
At this point, I think that I have most of the bugs worked out, but I really wish that all these software makers would figure out that automatic updates can be a real pain especially for those of us with older computers.

Oddly enough, despite the cold weather here today, I'm really craving a big bowl of ice cream. That is really strange, because I'm not really much of an ice cream eater ever, and the little that I do eat is usually only in really hot weather.

Did you treat yourself to some ice cream this afternoon, Mel? We finished off the cranberry sauce and the Tortiere meat pie for dinner this evening. I may make that meat pie again around Easter time. I copied many of those links over to a Word doc this afternoon. What a chore. I took a break and sorted through DS's bedroom closet. Divided some things up between the laundry (because they should sell in a yard sale), a bag for Goodwill, and the closest trashcan I could toss at. Feels like I accomplished something!
