Good morning! The sky is heavily overcast and it's storming to the north of us. We may have a little rain, hard to tell. The local meteorologists seem to be lacking information today. It's currently 63 and may reach 70. We have another wind advisory for the afternoon. I hope y'all have a great Thursday! Y'know, it's a busy week - we've had Pi Day, the Ides of March, and tomorrow is St. Patrick's Day! Is it still okay to say on March 17th that we're all a little Irish? Heading to work early - want to get a lot done and I really didn't get as much time yesterday as I'd originally planned.

My poor old Chevy Cobalt finally gave up the ghost.
There isn't much available around here in the way of good used cars, so I decided to use the money that I got from selling my late parents' house to get a new 2023 Buick Envision.
It cost a little bit more than I really wanted to spend, but not too bad; and I figured that if I get a new car now and take really good care of it, it might just be the last car that I will ever need to buy.
I think that I am going to name him Clifford after the cartoon character that my great nieces love so much: Clifford the Big Red Dog.

I think that I am going to name him Clifford after the cartoon character that my great nieces love so much: Clifford the Big Red Dog. That's a great looking car, Mel! ... And an even better name for it! Hope you enjoy it for many years! My bff called from South Dakota this evening. Today is her 66th B'day. I'm exactly 7 days older than she is. We had a great phone visit! We reached a high temp of 75 here today. Then we had a series of thunderstorms that rolled through. We didn't get the worst of it - folks living on the SW side of our county, and in the next county to the east side of them, had golf ball to softball sized hail. There was a report of a tornado that was sighted briefly in that general vicinity too, but I don't know that it caused any damages. Our temperature fell from 75 to 50 degrees in a little over an hour. The wind also cranked up into a roar. I think it's still roaring. I'll know when I step out back with the dogs in a few minutes. At least that wind dried up the roads for the evening!

It's a little after midnight, and apparently there are things blowing around outside. It's probably the neighbors' trashcarts. I suggested we not put out the trash tonight. Our trashcart is empty, but we could put one 39 gallon bag that's nearly full in it. That' wouldn't be heavy enough to keep it in anchored in its curb spot with the north wind pounding against it. Whatever is banging around outside, it's upsetting the dogs. I've gotten up with them 3 times now. Each of them has had a calming chew. We're going to bed as soon as I post this, really we are! See y'all tomorrow! Happy St. Patrick's Day!

That's a great looking car, Mel! ... And an even better name for it! Hope you enjoy it for many years! I really like it, but some of the controls will take a little getting used to. Every other car that I have ever had used a stick or a lever to change between park, reverse, neutral, drive, etc. This one just has a row of buttons : It also seems strange that you don't have to use a key to start the car. You just have to push a button, but it only starts if the car's remote is physically inside of the car. I guess that it is kind of nice that my key ring can stay in my pocket so that there is no danger of accidentally locking it in the car. Also. if the remote is within 3 feet of the car, the doors can be opened; but if the remote is not within 3 feet, they stay locked. Of course, both the remote and the control panel inside of the driver's door have buttons to override that automatic lock function if you want to. And I guess it is a sign of the times that both the front seats and the back seats include smart phone charging ports.

Nita's new Ford Explorer, which she bought late last year, is like this - a round button at the top of the console starts the car, and buttons change the gears - PRNDL and a stick to pull, whether on the column or on the floor, suddenly seems to be an old-fashioned idea. She's still not completely familiar with all the changes, but she's determined. One thing I like about her vehicle is the individual heated seats feature. One thing she doesn't like is the lack of a button or lever to change the driver's seat between the way she likes it and the way her DH likes it. The Hyundai Santa Fe she had before this had that feature. Have to say tho', that remote would take a little getting used to for me. It's cold this morning. Only 33 at 8 a.m., but at least the sun is shining. I'm putting a piece of corned beef brisket in the crockpot with veggies. It can cook on low all day, till Sweetie adds the cabbage in late afternoon. I hope it turns out well for dinner. Hope everyone has a great day! "May there always be work for your hands to do. ...... May your purse always hold a coin or two. May the sun always shine on your windowpane. ...... May a rainbow be certain to follow each rain. May the hand of a friend always be near you. ...... May God fill your heart with gladness to cheer you." (Author Unknown, but published today by Dear Abby)

One thing she doesn't like is the lack of a button or lever to change the driver's seat between the way she likes it and the way her DH likes it. The Hyundai Santa Fe she had before this had that feature. Those Explorers are really nice vehicles too, but if I was going to buy a brand new vehicle I wanted to stick with something from the Chevrolet/Buick/GMC family of vehicles because I really like their garage staff, and I didn't want to have to go somewhere else for service because of the car being under warranty. I will be the only person driving this car on a regular basis, but it does have a row of buttons on each of the front doors to allow up to 3 pre-sets for each of the front seats. It also has the heated seats with separate controls for each seat and a switch to heat the steering wheel in cold weather. That steering wheel thing might be nice, but I usually wear gloves in cold weather in any case. I really love the large amount of cargo space and the fact that the back seats can be easily folded down to really expand that already huge space. I also really like the back up camera and the sensor that alerts you if you get too close to anything or if you start to drift out of your lane while driving. This is also the first vehicle that I have had that has rear window windshield wipers. When I was looking for a new car, I also considered the Chevy Malibu. I really like those, but getting in and out was a little awkward with my bad leg. The Envision is high enough and has wide enough doors to allow me to enter and exit easily even with my left knee being as stiff as it is when wearing my prosthetic leg. The dealership where I bought it put a picture of me with it on their Facebook page:

Today is also the feast day of St Gertrude of Nivelles, the unofficial Patron Saint of cats.

One last comment about my new car and then I'll shut up about it : I find it funny that all of the color options have such "fancy" sounding names. According to the paperwork, my car's color is "Cinnabar". Why can't they just say "Red"? The black version of the same car is "Midnight", another black one that looks exactly the same to me is "Ebony Twilight", the blue one is "Sapphire Metallic", the grey one is "Moonstone", and the white one is "Summit White".
