Good morning! It is 17 degrees here this morning, and the bitterly cold wind that we have had for the last few days has finally stopped. I wish you all a merry and blessed Christmas!

Good morning! At 10 a.m. it's 29 with no wind and lots of brilliant sunshine. The dogs have been running in & out & enjoying it. Merry Christmas to All! Great church service this morning. The sermon title, "What if there was no Christmas?" Well, all those prophecies from hundreds of years before Christ's birth would have gone unfulfilled - and life would have been pretty unfulfilling too, with no hope beyond the grave. But as it is ... Jesus was born, and it happened in Bethlehem as prophesied ... along with all the things to come in His life that were prophesied. So we do have hope. I've got the roast for dinner in the crockpot. When I start everything else will depend on when it's about ready to serve. Hope you each and all have a wonderful day!

I spoke with my aunt today.
It seems that the vicious wind that we had toward the end of last week ripped the front door off of their house as well as knocking down several trees in their neighborhood. They also were without power for about ten hours during the extreme cold snap that we had the last couple of days.
Thankfully, they have a wood burning stove in their living room so they were able to at least keep warm until the power came back on, and one of their grandsons was able to come over and put the door back on.
My one sister-in-law also had one of the trees in her front yard blow over. Ripped the roots right out of the ground. Thanking God that the tree didn't hit her house or the neighbor's house when it went over, although it did leave a rather big hole in her yard and smashed some of the decorative bushes and shrubs that she has in her yard.
Today's weather is much nicer. It is still cold (24 degrees), but it is a normal cold for this time of year rather than the record cold that we have been getting for the last three days. Tomorrow is expected to get a little above freezing, and by next weekend we are forecast to be in the mid 50s.

I'm not sure what made me think about it right now, but I think that this is the first Christmas season that I can remember that I didn't come across any of those little "books" of Life Savers candy rolls. Around here, that has been a staple "stocking stuffer" type gift for as long as I can remember, but this year I don't recall seeing any of them in any of the local stores.

Glad to hear that none of your relatives were hurt in the antics of that winter storm, Mel. I used to see those little books of lifesavers with the other candies in the checkout lanes, but the stores around here don't keep much in the checkout lanes like they used to so I hadn't thought about them in a long time. We had fun cooking Christmas dinner, mostly because the dogs kept us so entertained. They'd be underfoot and I'd ask Edward to come take them out of the kitchen. He would come and then they'd follow him out. Once they figured out he wasn't doing anything, they'd circle back into the kitchen. After 3 trips like that, I put him to work helping finish fixing dinner. The dogs were actually better behaved that way - they each found a spot just outside the kitchen where they could watch. It's hard to believe Christmas has come and gone. Halloween & Thanksgiving 'felt like' what they are, but the weather was never right, and work was overly hectic, so it never did feel like Christmastime. The good things, for me, about this Christmas was learning some history about the manger at Migdal Eder; finding the Beach Boys song; and today's church sermon about the prophecies that were fulfilled by Christ's birth. Pretty interesting things with a little fun in the middle. Our office is closed tomorrow, but Milo Man does have to go back to the vet for a re-check to see if he's over whatever made him sick to start with a week ago. We're only working 3 days this week. The temperatures are supposed to improve too, all the way into the 60s for most of the week. I'll be happy about that! It won't last, but I'll enjoy it while we have it. Hope y'all have a great rest of the evening & sleep tight tonight! I love y'all!

Wow it's cold in your locale Jeanette! Is that a new record low? It's 32 at 6 a.m. with a windchill of 28. The forecast is calling for 51 this afternoon.

Question: what do dragons have to do with Christmas?
They popped in several lawn displays around town this year. And I just saw some beautiful gingerbread dragons on fb.
I've never seen dragons included in Christmas before so I'm curious.

I've never seen dragons included in Christmas before so I'm curious. I don't do it, but I know of some people (mostly Catholic) that include a dragon figure in their nativity scene because of the opening verses of Revelation chapter 12: And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars: And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered. And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads. And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born. And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne. (Rev. 12:1-5)

Halloween & Thanksgiving 'felt like' what they are, but the weather was never right, and work was overly hectic, so it never did feel like Christmastime. I felt the same way. it just didn't quite feel like the Christmas season this year, but I am thankful to have had the chance to spend time with family and friends during these last few weeks including some folks that I had not seen in person in far too long. I'm also having fun experimenting with my Christmas gift from Sharon's family: I've never had an air fryer before, but I've often considered getting one. It also has a setting for dehydrating, so I need to do a little research on what type of beef makes for the best jerky.
