It has been a bit of a busy day here. This morning I did the laundry, got groceries, and picked up some prescriptions from the drug store. And then, I finally got my new leg this afternoon!

And then, I finally got my new leg this afternoon! Whoo hoo! Congratulations, Mel!! This is such awesome news! High 90s here today, but feels pretty nice outside. Happy to hear your eye exam turned out pretty well today, Jeanette. Gas prices are around $4.25 this afternoon. Yay! I'm praying they'll fall below $4/gallon quickly. Our mailbox was full of political ads today, and my email inbox is almost as bad. :onno Our primary election is coming up on June 28th. I pretty much know who I'm voting for. I need to make a list of the lesser-known candidates that I'm supporting so I don't forget who they are - like education secretary, and state auditor ... and maybe corporation commissioner. All important jobs, just not forefront in my mind.

The new leg is going to take some getting used to.
I've been able to walk pretty well here in the house with a walker.
For now, I am only supposed to wear it for an hour or so at a time a few times per day and gradually work up to longer periods over the next several weeks.

Good morning! It is a bright and Sunny morning here, but our forecast is calling for heavy rain and possible storms later this afternoon and evening. Putting this prosthetic leg on is quite a process, but I am slowly getting better at it. This morning I managed to walk to the kitchen and get my breakfast and carry it in to the dining room table (one item at a time so i could keep a hand on the walker) without falling on my face. It feels so good to be able to walk again even if it is just for short distances for now.

Good morning! It's a bit humid, but it's not smothering so I'm not complaining. Milo is a get-up-at-sunrise dog so I'm going to have to go to bed by 10:30. That's just how it is. I actually can sleep till 7:30, if I want to, most days. That's a pretty interesting routine for getting used to your new leg, Mel. I wondered how they'd have you do that. I'll bet it does feel better to be back up & walking! There's a guy who has been in real estate around here for about 10 years. I hadn't seen him in awhile but when I went next door to the title company to have someone notarize some court filing paperwork, there he was at the front desk. He's working there now & is at the front desk only because they are going through a reorganization. We chit-chatted a minute and he said he hadn't been around for several months because - and he pulled up his pantleg to show me his prosthetic. I knew he'd had a lot of medical issues with that leg but didn't know any details. He's getting around pretty well, just a little slower because if he walks faster, his motions are a little jerky & he can get off balance. He's a tall, stocky man who used to stride around everywhere he went. I was thinking of you while watching him walk around. Had to laugh at the leftovers in the Country Crock tubs. We used to do that back in late 70s college years and into the early 80s newlywed years. A sister-in-law got into Tupperware and we ended up with a bunch of that by the mid-80s so no more mystery containers. Hope y'all have a great Wednesday. Good morning, Jeanette! I've been sitting here with this screen open & reading the newspaper instead of posting so I didn't know you'd posted. Hope things are well with you & yours!

He's getting around pretty well, just a little slower because if he walks faster, his motions are a little jerky & he can get off balance. I think that for me balance is going to be the hardest part to get used to since I obviously can't feel the floor under that foot, and the prosthetic is a bit on the heavy side so I tend to either lean a little to that side or else I lean too much to the other side to try to compensate for that. The hardest part of putting the leg on is not the leg itself but rather the other things that have to go on first. There is a very tight gel sleeve that goes on first and then (depending on how much my stump is swollen on a given day) there is anywhere between 1 and 4 layers of cotton padding. After that comes the prosthetic leg itself and then another gel sleeve that goes on over the socket portion of the prosthetic and the upper part of the remaining portion of my real leg above the socket to seal the prosthetic in place. All of those layers of stuff make my knee very stiff to move.

All of those layers of stuff make my knee very stiff to move. Wow! I'll bet it does! I don't know the guy very well that I was chatting with so we didn't get into talking about his experience. He's a character, I'll say that. Gotta run - see you later!

At 2:30 PM it is as dark as night time here.
Our area is now under a severe storm watch with flash flooding likely in the low areas.
Edit to add: The rain has started. It's coming down in buckets as my Grandma used to say.

It's coming down in buckets as my Grandma used to say. Okies call those types of rain "toad stranglers". I hope you're doing okay, Mel. I know you don't typically have flooding problems and I hope you don't start with that now. Edward & I raced over to Super Cuts and each got a haircut after work this evening. Neither of us had had a haircut since late 2021. Lol Oh, my goodness, I feel like 10 lbs was removed from my head - like I'd been wearing a heavy helmet. I told Edward the stylist took 20 years off his age by cutting his hair as short as she did. Tomorrow morning is small claims court day - 9 a.m. I'm hoping neither of the guys show up, but I'll have our facts & figures with me if either does show. If they don't show, I should be out of court in about 30 minutes. I'll heading off to bed next to sleep as hard as I can. Hoping for good dreams. Hope y'all sleep well too. See you tomorrow.
