Good morning! It is a slightly chilly 51 degrees here this morning. The odd dreams continue. Last night I dreamed that I was in one of those "Iron Chef" type cooking contests of all things. The judges were some of my old high school teachers.

Good morning! Great idea to start a thread for summer! Thanks, Mel! Had to chuckle over that Weather Forecasting Stone. Around here we have that, but they're called "Old Indian Weather Forecasting Stone". And they're sometimes sold in gift shops (smaller version). We have a tragicomedy morning going on here. I put down newspaper in case Milo had diarrhea again. Glad I did, and boy was it awful. He had bloody diarrhea. The vet is working us in at 10 a.m. I am taking a sample with us - I called back to see if we should & the gal said that would be very helpful. We're hoping they can save him. <-- Probably goes without saying (I'm trying not to bawl my head off, and praying for him). In the middle of arranging with the vet, Edward walks out of the bathroom all soaped up and yells to me that the water just went off. I immediately called the city and the lady said oh, yeh, they're doing maintenance. I told her it would have been very helpful to have had notice that was going to happen this morning - one family member was all soaped up in the middle of a shower & I'm not getting a shower. We have doctors appointments this morning so this is the pits!! She apologized all over herself - I told her I knew it wasn't her fault. Said she would tell the supervisor, and she took down my name & address. Edward finished his "shower" with water out of the rain barrel. Thank God we had that! I took a "shower" with 'antibacterial hand & face wipes'. Thank God for those too. My hair looks slimy because I didn't shower yesterday, just working around the house. I'll pull it up in a bun and pin it all down. Edward's first appointment with the cardiologist is at 10:45 so we'll probably leave the dog and go back after his appointment. I texted Nita, who's back from vacation. Told her what was going on & added that no matter the outcome at the vet's, I have to come home & sanitize the den and laundry room floors. Of course, the water hadn't gone off yet at that time - and boy, do I want hot water! Please say a prayer for all 3 of us, plus Fran & Leela who have bonded to Milo and are all freaked that he's sad shape. Leela's really moping, sticking nearby wherever he is. We've spent the past hour trying to get him to stay calm & lying down. Okay - gotta pull up this hair & run off to see what's possible. See y'all later. Praying nothing more bad happens today. I love you all!

Thank you for your prayers, Mel and Jeanette! They weren't going to see Milo unless one of us stayed with him, and they wouldn't let us leave him & come back after Sweetie's appointment because they didn't have room & didn't know if he had something contagious. He was their 3rd emergency patient this morning. Edward went to his appointment by himself and I stayed with Milo. The vet thought it was parvo, which I knew nothing about. She said that's because our dogs have always been well cared for! She asked for the details on how we came by that dog to begin with. I shared everything those 2 odd gals told us. Added that we really hadn't planned on getting any more dogs that big - he weighed in at 59.8 lbs this morning - but we weren't leaving him with those weird young gals! She said "Thank goodness!" to that. Milo didn't receive the appropriate number of shots as a puppy, so his immune system is probably not as strong as it would be if he had. The parvo test was negative, thankfully. She diagnosed him with ulcerative colitis. She gave him 3 shots and sent him home with about a half dozen meds. She said to keep him on the dry beef dog food, except to give him a little something to get these pills down him. I had her do a heartworm test on him & he was negative so we can put him on preventive. Heartworms are really bad in Okla. He didn't like getting those heavy duty shots - she said they are pretty tough, painful. He tried to not just jerk loose from the lab tech who had her arms wrapped around him but also to bite the 3 of them. He was muzzled, & the tech was strong, 2nd tech was just observing, so he didn't succeed. The vet suggested we work with him while he's young because he has the personality that already sees himself as "the boss". Yeh, sweet as he is, we've figured that out. We're already working with him, I assured her ("down!" "sit!" "stay!" - with lots of praise for doing the right thing). Weird thing, the girls who gave him to us said he was born in June. No, he wasn't - his first puppy shots occurred the 3rd week of May 2021. Puppies should get their first shots at 6-8 weeks of age, which means he could have been born as early as our birthday, March 9th. We've decided to ask the vet's office to change his birthday from June 14th to March 9th. Leela and Franny were happy to see Milo come home. I think the 3 of them have slept most of the afternoon. We went to Cracker Barrel because they serve breakfast all day, and we hadn't eaten anything. It has changed a lot since last time we were there, which was shortly after restaurants re-opened in late 2020 or early 2021. We expected the place to be -today- pretty much like it was pre-2020. As it turned out, we had to wait 10 minutes to be seated in a half-empty restaurant. The menu is much smaller than it used to be. And there were tables all around us that set there unbussed as long as we were there, which was not appealing. edited to add: We suspect things are the way they are for the most part because they cannot get enough employees to fully run the place. There are only a handful of breakfast entrees offered now & they no longer serve turkey sausage. We almost left, but remembered we were paying with a C.B.-specific gift card. If we didn't use it today, because we were unhappy, when would we use it? We decided we'd find something on the lunch menu. I laughed, after my food came. Told Edward that I had 'almost' gotten breakfast after all. I had a chicken-fried steak with white gravy, steak fries, grits, country biscuits, and coffee. All I was missing were a couple of eggs - that would have been a really hearty breakfast! Edward had a great visit with the cardiologist. He liked the doc, which is good. And, doc said he does not have a-fibb. We are both so thankful over that diagnosis! The doc did double the dosage of his blood pressure medicine because he doesn't believe it's strong enough. Edward was pleased with the whole visit. We drove by a couple of yards we needed to check the grass length on and came home. I'm about to get to work on some laundry and dishes and the floors ... It's been a stressful day and I'm starting to unwind. Hope you're all doing well.

Thanks, Jeanette! A friend said last week she thought his howl is because he's part huskey. She's had 3 in past years & said they all howled, sounded like little wolves in the backyard. Milo hasn't howled a lot but I think it's really neat that he can. He's worn out tonight.

Good morning! It is staying rather dark here this morning. There are no storms in today's weather forecast, but the sky sure looks like it could storm at any time.

Good morning! Happy First Day of Summer! Gonna be about 100 today, and no rain in the forecast. I've been out back with the dogs. Milo is feeling much better this morning, you can tell. Hope your eye exam went well, Jeanette ... I need new glasses, I can tell my prescription has changed. Maybe next month. Hope you don't have any bad storms, Mel.
