The cat in that last meme puts me in mind of May's attitude toward helping herself to my food, except that May doesn't care if I'm looking or not! Prayers for your friend Allen's loved ones. Today is my Uncle's (Dad's brother) 81st birthday. Arrangements were made for a surprise visit from his son and grandchildren. This is the first time that the nursing home has allowed him to see any of his family in person since PA's nursing home lockdown started in February of last year. And since this particular son and his family had to drive from several states away, the nursing home administrator approved a longer visit that the usual 1 hour limit on "compassion visits" mandated by the state. They also brought him a strawberry milkshake that he has been saying that he wanted for ages.
This morning I had to go in to the lawyer's office to sign some paperwork for the IRS related to my parents' estates. And later this afternoon I have an appointment with the photographer that is taking the pictures for our church's new photo directory. I hate posing for professional photos. I'm glad these church directories are only updated every 10 years or so.

I think daughter's family may be here for a week at least, sorting through Allen's house. I really hope his collection of Peanuts, Star Wars, & the huge number of celebrity-signed photos and other autographed memorabilia will have value. The granddaughter's name is Elora, a character from the movie Willow, which is one Allen had some celebrity dealings with. His daughter had planned to call them "Big Al and Little Al" whenever they were together, tho' that didn't happen. I thought that was pretty sweet! Happy Birthday to your Uncle! That's pretty awesome that his son and grandchildren were allowed into the nursing home for an "extended visit". This will surely strike him as one of his best birthdays. Were you close to him before the pandemic? I get a kick out of his facebook postings - things I've seen on your timeline with his name attached (I'm guessing I've got the right person in mind).

Mel, the photo of your uncle enjoying that milkshake is priceless! Praying
Barb, Rocco is an American Staffordshire terrier. They picked him up as a puppy, and he fits so well with his family!

Were you close to him before the pandemic? We have always gotten along really well when we were around each other, but I can't say that we were particularly close as he and his family didn't live in this area for most of my life so I typically only really saw them once or twice a year usually around the holiday season plus an occasional phone call or letter in recent years after he had his stroke and could no longer travel. I get a kick out of his facebook postings - things I've seen on your timeline with his name attached (I'm guessing I've got the right person in mind). His name is David Hawbaker if that is who you are thinking of; and when it comes to Facebook, he and I definitely do have very similar senses of humor.

Good morning!
Looks like we are in for another rainy stormy day here.

Good morning, and Happy Friday! It's in the low 80s this morning, but already feels like 90 so it's humid. I was out back about 7:30 this morning, breaking up pecan limbs that I'd piled up & stuffing them into a large dog food bag. It worked pretty well - I got rid of about half the pile. I lugged that out to the trashcart at the curb, with a few bigger limbs stuffed under one arm. I knew the trashcart wasn't too full. All of that fit pretty well. The trashman was just pulling onto the other end of our horseshoe so the cart was empty pretty quick & I drug it back up to the house. I thought that was a pretty good accomplishment before breakfast. A family restaurant on our side of town that has always been a hit with the residents has this on their electronic sign board at present: Attachment DeletedThe owner has been advertising on that board for cooks, waitstaff, bussers, dishwashers, hosts&hostesses since indoor dining was permitted to reopen. I really hope he doesn't go out of business.

And you're right, Mel ... you and he have very similar senses of humor. That ancient Egypt meme cracked me up this morning - that might be one way to keep history accurate. Laundry, dishes are done - onto the next project ... Hope you don't get too much rain! All y'all have a great Friday!

But what can you expect when all of the Covid related boosts to unemployment and welfare programs make it so that for a lot of people going back to work would mean a major drop in their income. Besides that, a lot of the people that really do want to get back to work are scared that if they do go back to work and the state decides to shut everything down again, they might have to wait many weeks or months to get back on unemployment again. Last shutdown, some folks who lost their jobs here didn't get their first unemployment checks for over six months due to the huge backlog of claims being filed all at once.

Because ... real life has now become more absurd than satire. <-- the article tells us that too. Heh, next time I find my Aunt Betty's apple pie crust & filling recipe, I think I'll make one. We can half the pie and give the other half to DS's household.

I hadn't thought of the underlined parts. I know some people here had a tough time getting on unemployment due to the backlog, and I hadn't considered how easily that could happen again.

I that cat! Miss May is such a smart cat! I'm beat - I think it's the heat. A little later ... We've had a backyard with several fireflies flitting around in 2 areas all this week. I'm happy to see them. They're a welcome sign of summer in these parts. I'm sitting out on the back patio, chillin' for a few minutes before heading to bed. Little Leela is out here with me. She's keeping an eye on me, so I think she's ready to go to bed too. Franny wouldn't come outside, I think she saw a flash of lightning to the far north.
