I like to think that I am a progressive, modern man. I'm one who understands that if you're not doing the cooking you can't complain about it. Well... I hate chicken, Maria's chicken. There I've said it. We have chicken nearly every day. There's fried chicken, boiled chicken, chicken with rice, chicken and broccoli, the list goes on. All of these dishes share one characteristic. In quality they all closely resemble Catherine's turkey in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation! We're talking Sahara Desert dry. So we're out doing grocery shopping today, during old people hours at the store, and I'm looking at the cuts of beef. Up until today I was planning to make something extra special for Christmas. (Yup, I plan that far in advance.) After seeing those prices...we're having turkey. Oh well. At least we have food. A couple of weeks ago I bought a big jar of Jelly Belly jelly beans. That was a mistake! Those are the best jelly beans I ever had. There are more coming from Amazon. This bodes ill when you're already fat! Ha! Maria admonished me to stop buying these as she withdrew her hand from the jar! Yeah, they're really good.

I've already got a 5-lb turkey breast in the freezer for Thanksgiving. Not exactly sure what we're having for Christmas, but I'm still hoping for a piece of beef fixed in the crockpot. We'll see.
Edward has discovered almost everyone is having sales on those tins of Danish Style Butter Cookies. Mm, yeh, that's become the equivalent of Jelly Belly jelly beans at this house.

Maybe you could stuff the chicken with the Jelly Belly beans.
Joking aside, I love Jelly Belly jelly beans, but some of the individual flavors I could do without like "Buttered Pop Corn".
I love jelly beans, and I love pop corn, but the 2 just do not go well together in my opinion, especially when nearly every other type of bean in the pack is a fruit flavor.
I'm also not a fan of the "Bubble Gum" and "Cotton Candy" flavors for the same reason.

I prefer the black jelly beans, no matter whose brand they are. It's been so silent outside today. No breeze. No people noises. I just walked out to the fla. room for a package of ground turkey to thaw - we'll have meatloaf for dinner tomorrow and on Thursday. Leela followed me so we walked on out into the backyard. A lot of the days in the past few months have been still and silent like this. We're not terribly locked down, so where are the kids out playing, and the teens? Haven't been many early morning dog walkers or runners either. Surely we still have some number of those humans in this subdivision. West Virginia U is publishing a tome of oral histories of alumni. I finally called in this morning to update my contact info and see what they wanted. The man who took my call was a nice guy, clearly working from a script. We didn't get too far and found out we had an Oklahoma tie-in: he had grandparents who owned a cotton farm at a small town SW of here. We kept talking and we got into telling life stories and just laughing and carrying on as if we'd known each other 50 years. He couldn't say everything he'd like to have said, but it wasn't hard to deduce he's a conservative, a Christian, a family man. We visited a little over 30 minutes and then had to wrap it up. I did not sign up to purchase the end product of that ^^^ major project (almost $400). I'm not into spending money on stuff like that. Even an alumni membership was $50. No, I didn't need one of those either.

Good evening Think I must have been gritting my teeth this afternoon. Sometimes I need to remind myself that I do love some long distance family members, even if they're being annoying. After all, one or the other of us may one day suffer dementia. If that's the case, I'll be glad that I was patient & kind./I can always shake my head & roll my eyes after I hang up the phone. Good night, you guys! I love you all!

‘Morning & it’s 54 degrees here @ 6:55 am
Thankful that DH managed to cover the openings left by the plumbing crew. Difficult & challenging though It was! Clamps used to move pipes were sticking out so that the sheetrock wouldn’t go flush. DH ended up chiseling out some of the wood to piece in Sheetrock as it kept breaking. Praying that all begins to go better re this here renovation project.
My game plan today, Lord willing, is a quiet time of study, possibly a walk outside for cardio, painting the pantry & half bath closets. Once DH is home from work, he’ll sand & paint the half bathroom wall where the plumbers worked.
Hopefully they are able to come back in tomorrow morning or Friday to install the toilet & vanity DH wants in there.
The weekend ahead of has my childcare grands while DD#3 & her hubby come on Saturday to assist. Sunday has DD#2 here & possibly our DS, to assist.
Our DD#1 turns 44 this Friday! We hope to meet up with her & her kiddos on Thursday, after work.
Mel, throughly enjoy your pictures & greetings!
May you all have a blessed Wednesday!

Happy to hear the work is coming along on your remodel, Jeanette, even as tedious as it is. It'll be great when you do get past the annoyances. I hope you had the quiet time today you'd planned. We each got a lot done today. DS testing positive for the virus threw a wrench in our plans late this afternoon. We hadn't been around him & L, or the kids in about 3 weeks, so we're not concerned with being exposed. L's been sick - she had tonsillitis and got sick again this weekend. I'm betting she'll turn up positive too. Anyway, I got busy watching some Prager U videos after we came back from son's house - one on the covid virus was great; it had an explanation of the 2 types of antibodies. I learned a lot from that video. Y'know - some things we are not hearing in mainstream media & from the medical 'experts'. , but the man who spoke on the video is a medical doctor, no flake, so I tend to believe him. Well, it's about time to head off to bed. I'm sleepy. See y'all tomorrow!

Beautiful weather today! Lots of sun and already into the 70s.
The annual passion play couldn't be performed this year at Easter, due to the virus of course. It is scheduled for the middle of this month. Here are a couple pictures from the Holy City of the Wichitas. The set is permanent. Those cobblestones came from right there in the mountains. I think most of the set was built by the WPA, back in the 1930s. This is one of our local treasures.
This statue of Jesus Christ can be seen from a ways off.

Good evening! Today I took my Mom to the hospital's cardiac unit to have some tests done that her Doctor wanted. This was the first time that she has left the house since this whole Covid-19 mess got started as our family Doctor had arranged for most of her regular wellness exams etc to be done at home these last couple of years. Things went well for the most part and her test results were good. The only problem was that she really did not do well at all with the whole mask thing. She has chronic breathing problems anyway and the mask over her face seemed to cause her considerable anxiety too.
