I must be even more tired out than I thought. Took me a minute to get that meme.

Is that picture of your Dad from an oil painting? No, it was scanned from a photo in an old church directory from about 30 years ago. I guess the texture of the paper caused it to scan a little funny. The original is much clearer. It is the most recent professionally taken photo of him that I had other than Sharon and my wedding pictures. Dad really didn't like posing for pictures. Wow! That picture of your Dad really looks like it's part of an oil painting. I think it looks really nice. One of my facebook friends is an artist, Hodd Whicker. If you look him up, you'll see that he has an eye for turning out great oil paintings of people, and pets. He captures more than just 1 dimension, imo; you can see the mind working behind the eyes ... and the texture of oil paint is unique too. Seeing so much of Hodd's work, I picked up on the similarity in that picture of your Dad.

I went to the nursing home this afternoon to clear out Dad's room and collect his personal belongings.
Also had to go back to the funeral home to drop off Dad's suit because I didn't think to take it with me this morning.
Feel like I'm running on auto pilot this evening.
Mom is holding up pretty well under the circumstances, but I couldn't get her to eat anything today except sugar cookies.

Yeah, I haven't really had a good nights sleep since Dad went to the hospital Thursday of last week. Even when I do manage to fall asleep for a little while, I have very disturbing dreams. Like flashbacks to Sharon's final days.

Yeah, I haven't really had a good nights sleep since Dad went to the hospital Thursday of last week. Even when I do manage to fall asleep for a little while, I have very disturbing dreams. Like flashbacks to Sharon's final days. That makes a lot of sense. Losing someone you love, even when you know they're saved, is extremely stressful. ... and it may take some time before your mind and body catch up to a rhythm that brings you rest. I hope you'll take care of yourself and your health.
The same goes for your Mom. I hope she'll share some of her thoughts with you, or someone she's close to, and not bottle her feelings all up inside. She needs to eat, but that may take her a little time ....
The day my father passed away, my mother and I were on the phone a little later in the afternoon and she was angry, which was understandable, so I was listening and she was venting. She finally concluded by saying she would never smile again, never be happy again. It really did take her awhile before she found anything brought her joy again. Just sharing ... everyone's experience is different.

Good morning! It's a chilly 48 degrees here this morning. Funny how the mind works sometimes. I did eventually manage to get a few hours of relatively restful sleep last night, but first I was lying awake for a good while thinking about all the stuff that I need to do to over the next few weeks to get Dad's estate settled on Mom's behalf. Then I got to wondering if Dad has had a chance to see Sharon yet, or his parents and his brother Paul that passed on many years ago. Lastly I got to thinking how nice it is that after having Dad to myself for 52 years, Steven (my brother who died as a baby before I was born) would finally have the chance to spend time with Dad.

Those are some pretty neat thoughts, Mel. You've had me singing ever since I got up --
"When we all get to heaven What a day of rejoicing that will be When we all see Jesus We'll sing and shout the victory!"
I can't remember any of the verses, just the chorus. I looked up the lyrics, but I'm going to have to listen to Brad Paisley sing it on youtube, I think, to get the tune right that goes with the verses.
Partly cloudy here this morning, but should be a mild day in the mid 60s. I'm planning to get outside and do some more raking this afternoon.

It's a little cloudy outside. I've been out with the dogs 3 times now. Feels like a lot of moisture in the air. I'm hoping we get some wind ahead of the rain that's supposed to arrived overnight. I've put a big ol' batch of Poor Man's Stew in the crockpot. It was funny - I thawed a near-lb of ground beef that I'd picked up out of the bargain cooler a few months ago. I was afraid it might not be good, once it was thawed, so I also thawed a 3/4-lb piece of ground beef that I bought just last month as a back up. You guessed it, the 'almost' lb bargain package was beautiful red inside, had simply turned a little brown on the outside in the fridge or freezer. I cooked up the near-lb with a little garlic powder & Mrs. Dash and it smelled & tasted so good. Into the crock it went. I chopped an onion, and some yellow potatoes (I like them because the skin is thin so I don't peel them), and I was chopping baby carrots when Edward walked in & asked what I was doing? We talked & agreed - I'd also cook the 3/4-lb piece of ground beef & add it to the crock, as there were plenty of vegetables. If we eat on this stew for the next 3 days, we're going to enjoy it. It should be done around 5 p.m. this evening.

If I could send you a bowlful through the CD drive, Mel, I'd do that. The whole house is smelling delicious. I just came in from raking - the trashcart is full once again! There are only 2 spots out front where leaves have piled up that I'll have left to pick up after the trashman picks up on Tuesday. The funny thing was the way one of the dead shrubs in the courtyard popped right up out of the ground when I leaned down & shook it. It basically had no roots. There are 2 more dead shrubs there too - none of those shrubs are big any more. I may try using a shovel to pop them up out of the ground when we have some nice weather . . .

It has turned chilly this evening! I went out & walked around the backyard with the dogs a few minutes ago. I should have put on socks & sneakers and some jeans or sweats, & a jacket! I'm wearing a t-shirt, shorts, & flip-flops. I wasn't expecting it to be cold outside. We're watching the Okla University Sooners vs the Okla State U Cowboys. This is the big rivalry in this state - it's known as Bedlam. So far, the Sooners (team we cheer for) have jumped out at the start of the game; it's already OU 14; OSU 0. I hope the Sooners win big this evening.
