edited to add: if that eskimo guy & his fluffy dog are not seen in your locale, that's the logo for Eskimo Joe's. I don't think that I have ever heard of Eskimo Joe. I wonder if he is related to Trader Joe? Oh, there's a thought! Eskimo Joe's is the Land of the Midnight Sun version of Trader Joe's, which is the Pacific Islander version. Could be. I'll read that article on Moderna in a bit - gotta make some phone calls now. I hadn't heard that about Moderna's CMO, but I have heard about Fauci & Bill Gates both having major tie-ins to Moderna, which makes me want to put up some Pennsylvania Dutch hex sign as a protection against Any-thing that corporation is related to from affecting me and my family. Freshman roommate was from Harrisburg. She and I had a hex sign in our dorm room. They were pretty popular around PA, WV, OH Amish gift shops, bookstores, fruit stands for a time. No idea these days, since I'm so rarely in that part of the country. What do you think, Mel - do you see them around? This is a pretty good hex sign: Double Trinity Tulips The stylized tulip with its three petals is a dominate feature in Pennsylvania Dutch folk art. It is referred to as the Trinity Tulip and it symbolizes the Trinity as well as faith, hope and charity. The heart in this sign (as well as other Pennsylvania German folk art) is not the heart of sentimental "Victorian" valentines. Rather, it is religious in its representation of the heart of God, the source of all love and hope for a future life. The colors in this heart are used to give them additional meaning. Red symbolizes strong emotion and blue is used to indicate strength, especially spiritual strength. The white background symbolizes purity and the solid black circle represents unity in Christ. I see some Hex signs around these parts, but it's not nearly as common as it was when I was a kid.
I think that you tend to run into them (and Amish / PA Dutch things in general) a lot more a couple of hours East of here in Lancaster County and the surrounding area.
Something else that was really common in this area when I was a kid that is only very rarely seen here these days is the "Old Order" Mennonite and Amish people driving Horse and Buggies as their primary mode of transportation. Though again, that is still fairly common in the Lancaster area.

There were plenty of Amish who drove horse and buggies in various parts of Ohio when I was growing up. Many to the north-northeast of Canton.
My grandfather (mother's father) drove a horse and buggy when she was a little girl. They lived along the Ohio River and he was a sharecropper. Grandpa was 1st generation born in the US, in the late 1800s. He grew up somewhere in Pennsylvania Dutch country, but I don't know where. Apparently, he lived the Amish lifestyle for some time, tho' further back in the history of the world, his family was Jewish. I have a photo of my grandparents with a horse and buggy, at a gas station. Next time that photo turns up, I'll post it.

Good morning!
Looks like we are in for a pleasant Sunny mid 80s day here.
Hopefully I can get the grass mowed at my parents place this afternoon once things dry out from all of yesterday's rain since this is the only day this week that isn't forecast to be either rainy or scorching hot.

Ahahaha I like the tape.
Rainy here this morning. Supposed to clear up around lunchtime. Chilly too - it's only 66 degrees. That's an odd morning low for this time of year.

The morning didn't really go as planned, but it wasn't bad. Sweetie had to go for an ultrasound - he has an annual checkup coming to be sure he has no kidney stones. Meanwhile, a tenant who's been in the hospital called in a panic. She couldn't get her husband on the phone & she was going to be discharged in about an hour. She asked me to drive over to their house & bang on the doors & windows until he woke up. Well, I wasn't crazy about taking the time and gasoline to do it, but couldn't really say no. Off I went. He was up building shelves so hadn't heard his phone. I decided to check on a couple of other tenants who have life issues. Spoke with each. They're doing okay, had promises to pay; we'll see. The rain drizzled off and on. When I was within a block of home, Sweetie called me to meet him at Cracker Barrel (it's on our side of town & he had to fast for that ultrasound on his kidneys, so I hadn't eaten anything yet either). I turned around & met him for a late breakfast. It was good - that restaurant has their dining-in routine well-honed. The food, the coffee, and the conversation were all good. Don't think I mentioned it before but the local police dept has now been tasked with "mask patrol". Several people (me included) support our local LEOs, but not the mayor or the mayor pro-tem, who have gone power-mad during this pandemic. Our governor has not mandated masks, but said he would not interfere with local area govts to mandate what they believe would be most beneficial. Besides fining people who are not wearing masks, they are checking up on businesses to see if they have "Masks or Face Coverings Required for Entry" signs on their doors or windows. If they don't, they're leaving them notice to do so immediately and then calling back later to ask if they followed the city ordinance? <-- good acquaintance of ours is livid because she got caught up in that with her cosmetics & clothes shop in an old shopping center in town. She believes it ought to be her choice to enforce masks or not. It's a cosmetics shop where they will help you pick out your look, so you can try on their products - & of course, as within a restaurant, be without a mask while being served, but you will likely mess up a mask to put it over a new makeup job, & may even smear the new makeup job. (I haven't worn makeup since St. Patrick's Day. Don't know if I will go back to it or not.) Ok - heading off to the post pharmacy to fill an Rx. No idea what excitement waits me there! (they've been changing their procedure regularly) ... (might as well laugh, it's beyond my control to fix)

Hello! It's chilly this evening. I just turned down the a.c. here in the house - not sure why it's running, certainly isn't warm enough in here to need it. We had fish fillets, coleslaw, and dinner rolls for dinner earlier. It really came together into a quick, easy dinner. It wasn't what I had planned, but I was hungry when I got home so I'll fix this evening's planned dinner tomorrow, and I'm happy we had something I could fix quickly for today. It took only 12 min from stepping out of the Tahoe until I was back inside & starting it up to drive off at the post pharmacy. Apparently,99% of people who needed their services had come & gone earlier in the day. I have to pick up my Rx anytime tomorrow. I went to another pharmacy in town to drop off my other Rx. The military no longer supports the blood pressure medicine I take so I get it off post, and fortunately insurance still covers it. Did my grocery shopping for this week while on post. Only spent $26 - that's pretty phenomenal. I resisted picking up a bag of Alaskan wild-caught salmon fillets because they're processed in China & then returned. I really wanted that bag of salmon, but I can't buy Chinese processed products if I can avoid it. *sad, disgusted sigh*

Good morning! The weather forecast says we will be all the way up to the high 90s today, 99 is the average high for this time of year. The morning started out pretty cloudy, but the sun is starting to shine. for all needs here today. Later: Whoo-hoo! Our lawn crew showed minutes before 9 a.m. and are hard at it! They are really good. Troubled tenants inadvertently dialed my phone at 1 a.m. last night & it went to voicemail. I nearly panicked this morning when I woke up to the notice I had a voicemail from them. Soooo relieved to listen & discover nothing was going on, & they had quickly hung up.

Mel, is your rain coming off of Hurricane Isaias (I can't spell it or pronounce it)? I have OH cousins vacationing at VA Beach, and WV cousins vacationing at Myrtle Beach. They all seem to be having a good time, in spite of whatever the weather is doing. Our average temperatures start trending downward after August 10th, I found out yesterday. I've lived here 41 years & didn't know that. I'll be watching those average temp #'s since they tend to show them now. Well ... I have rents to collect & deposit. Yay! And a couple of Rx's to pick up. See y'all later.

Mel, is your rain coming off of Hurricane Isaias (I can't spell it or pronounce it)? It's my understanding that our recent rainy weather has not been from the Hurricane itself but from smaller storm systems that have been pushed inland in our direction by the Hurricane.
There was some actual Hurricane damage in PA but it was mostly in the Eastern part of the State.
Our immediate area is pretty well protected from that direction by being in a valley between 2 mountain ranges.
We have the Allegheny Mountains to the West and the oddly named South Mountains to the East.

Waving a good afternoon to y’all Hi, Jeanette! Are you feeling effects of the hurricane where you are? We've only made it to 91 degrees here today. It's stuffy outside, and sunny - can't call it humid, it's "stuffy", that's about the only way I can describe it. The rodeo is going on here at present - it's a big deal, which I don't know too much about, but apparently winning here is a big deal as far as qualifying for nationals. I'll tell you this much, this is the biggest patriotic display I've seen coverage of anywhere since this whole anti-American hoo-hah started this year. Even little kids who are playing around, not up in the stands, immediately stop what they're doing and put their hands over their hearts and turn toward the arena when the National Anthem begins to play. <-- they are being pointed out as "kids who are being raised right!" The Grand Entry coming into the arena also has a breathtaking flag display. People here love this stuff. I've seen a lot of the coverage on facebook. So I'm thinking Rodeo may be the only pro sport I can support this year! Today is Lawton's 119th Birthday (I thought it was tomorrow - ).
