Our immediate area is pretty well protected from that direction by being in a valley between 2 mountain ranges. We have the Allegheny Mountains to the West and the oddly named South Mountains to the East.
That's a pretty good arrangement, geographically speaking.

It was dark and cloudy when I first went out back with the dogs earlier, but the sun seems to be winning the battle of dominating the sky now. It's supposed to be all the way up to about 98 this afternoon. Those thunder buddies remind me of Franny and Leela piling up under my office table when it stormed a few evenings ago. All 3 dogs were happily outside barking at the HOA's mowing crew that was flying up 'n down the greenbelt behind our privacy fence just a few minutes ago. There haven't been as many walkers out this spring & summer, and with the last 2 months of school being closed down, there haven't been hardly any kids walking up & down the street. It struck me yesterday: it's been almost eerily quiet around this side of town this summer. We're really close to the city limit so, except for the high school/middle school & 3 subdivisions, there's not much here - 1 convenience store, an Assembly of God Church, and a fire station. There's been no usual hustle bustle since spring break started. These dogs are probably thrilled to have anything to bark at!

No rain here yet, but the sky sure looks like it could storm at any time. And our county is once again under a flash flood watch for this evening and tonight.
I went to the grocery store for a few things this morning, and then I went over to my parents house and spent a few hours with them.
We made a big pot of homemade chili for our lunch and had a white cake with coconut frosting for desert.

That's a cool ride, Mel. I'm not a big shopper, but my leather shoulder bag is about to come apart in pieces. I this bag; I've carried it year 'round for 4 years. It's at the point that I'm trimming down the fraying leather shoulder straps, and the corners of the bag are coming apart. I went to Kohl's this afternoon and found a shoulder bag that's also leather, navy with dark trim. It's the style I love, and should last a number of years. Besides that, I also found a leather clutch wallet that's exactly like the one I've carried for the last 20 years, even my same favorite color - a medium red. The one I've had for 20 years has a hole in a corner of the change section that I stuffed with a cotton ball about 3 years ago because small change was pushing down through the hole; and all the edges have worn, scuff marks on them. Finding one just like it - same brand and all, was exciting. Both items were on sale and the store had a couple other specials going on at the moment, so I purchased all that crafted leather for almost 60% off the listed price. I really appreciate good deals like that. It was a fun afternoon! (May not sound like much, but I don't go shopping often. ) We're having angus beef burgers with fried onions for dinner and deviled egg potato salad. Sweetie's on floor duty so we won't have to do anything except pull it together. Dinners like that are nice some evenings.

Oh, yeh - the commissary has put out their Halloween candy display. It's not as big and flashy as last year's, but still a lot of candy. Kohl's had "Welcome Fall" and Halloween items on display in the Home Decor section. They had deep red bulky knit Christmas stockings to hang on the mantel for your dogs, and Christmas dress up clothes for your dogs - horizontal striped elf suits, I think that's what they are. Oh, my, what can I say about all that ^^^

Good morning! The rainy weather seems to have finally gotten out of our area, and the whole weekend's weather forecast looks like it is going to be warm and pleasant and not too hot.

Good morning! Beautiful morning here - no rain expected for a few days, at least. The dogs walked around the backyard & were a little disappointed - didn't see or hear a single squirrel.

And just when I think that the whole politically correct cancel culture thing can't get any more ridiculous: NASA to remove offensive names from planets and other heavenly bodies
Political correctness has now expanded to space, where NASA says planets, galaxies and other heavenly bodies will no longer be referred to by “offensive” nicknames.
In a press release Thursday, the space agency said that all planets and heavenly bodies will be referred only to by their scientific names, the Houston Chronicle reported.
Under the new rules, the “Eskimo Nebula,” discovered in 1787 by William Hershel, will only be referred to as NGC 2392.
The so-called “Siamese Twins Galaxy” will likewise be known only as NGC 4567 and NGC 4568.
“As the scientific community works to identify and address systemic discrimination and inequality in all aspects of the field, it has become clear that certain cosmic nicknames are not only insensitive but can be actively harmful,” the agency said in a news release.
“NASA is examining its use of unofficial terminology for cosmic objects as part of its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.”

I think this is completely insane.

I've been reading great articles this morning ... but I've got to get off this computer and do some work around the house.
Found this Churchill quote in an article re: the Portland mayor telling the "peaceful protestors" that they should stop because they're going to be used in Trump campaign ads, which will surely bring him votes. : Attachment Deleted
Y'all have a great afternoon! I love you guys, bunches!

I've had a fairly productive Saturday so far. I mowed my yard this morning and did my laundry.
May has been extra goofy today. When I came in from mowing earlier, she ran out to the kitchen and sat meowing next to her food bowl as if she hadn't already been fed before I went out to mow. And no, the bowl wasn't anywhere near empty.
Silly cat.
