Good morning! It is cool and cloudy here this morning.
I had a bit of a rude awakening this morning with May's tail repeatedly hitting me in the face. She was curled up next to me with her backside propped up next to my head on my pillow I'm going to my parents house in a little while to have brunch with them and watch our church's online service. I'm kind of wondering about what the pastor is up to. Our pastors don't usually go in for "gimmick" type sermons, but the according to the church website the topic today is "The Duck Sermon" and it also doesn't say which pastor is preaching today.

Good afternoon! It's beautiful outside - slightly overcast so still enough sun to enjoy. There's a mild southerly breeze, probably around 15 mph. We had to change some light bulbs in the kitchen. I sooo need to inventory & better arrange the big 2nd shelf in the pantry. We still have many light bulbs that we brought back from my parents' house 7 years ago. I may put some of those in a yard sale, or donate them somewhere. I was outside with the hounds a bit ago. Leela was having a blast chasing toads around the edges of the pond. Dock weed has grown up along one side of the pond and she roots through that, jumping toads. At least she doesn't seem interested in actually catching them. She's our non-swimmer so she only goes in as deep as the bottom edge of her belly. She's very entertaining to watch - wagging that tail 60mph, head down. Think I'm going to endeavor to take a vacation, even if a couple of days, from the coronavirus coverage. A couple of buddies each posted this in the last few days. I luv it!

This afternoon is turning out to be pleasant and sunny after all.
When I got home from my parents' place, I decided to finish putting away the last load of laundry that I did before bed last night that was still in the dryer and then go ahead and get my grass mowed. I'm kind of wondering about what the pastor is up to. Our pastors don't usually go in for "gimmick" type sermons, but the according to the church website the topic today is "The Duck Sermon" . Turns out that the pastor really was talking about actual ducks, complete with video of a family of ducks on their property, and using the way that a mother duck watches over her young as an illustration of God's care for his people.

I've got the sermon on my phone while on the PC. What I thought was neat is the first time they saw mama duck was the first Sunday they recorded the service, back in March. Good part of the metaphor right there, imo - God was right there, protecting His people from the start. Otherwise, I'm having a little trouble getting into this service. But that's okay - every sermon doesn't have to move me. . I like your church pretty well, Mel - I'm glad you share it. There are no Memorial Day celebrations here this year. Not really a surprise on the one hand, but a true disappointment for me, especially since we're not a locked down state. I'm a big believer in studying history and American government; and in participating in patriotic celebrations. They're representative of who we are. So, "Bah! Humbug!" to the authoritarians who prevented our gathering together to remember our veterans who are no longer living and their accomplishments in our national, state, local, and family histories. People are free - thank God! - to go to the cemeteries and place flags and flowers and stroll around visiting the graves and monuments. So I did! I told Edward it was my patriotic push back on the subject. He laughed, said that didn't surprise him, and told me to have a good time. There weren't many people at the post cemetery - and it's full; not sure if there are any spaces remaining or not, which is why we have a National Cemetery about 15 miles north now. It was surprising to see most headstones in the post cemetery were bare - not many flags, flower arrangements, or anything like I'm used to seeing. I walked around awhile, stopping to quietly offer prayers, and comments to God. The weather was gorgeous and I really enjoyed the solitude. Attachment Deleted

A number of local churches had in person services today in defiance of the Governor's order for the first time since this virus mess started, but ours is still sticking to online services only for now.
The Catholic church a few blocks from here is still not open for Mass either, but they did have a couple of the priests sitting in the parking lot for drive through confessions.

The Catholic church a few blocks from here is still not open for Mass either, but they did have a couple of the priests sitting in the parking lot for drive through confessions. I'd have wanted communion. There are many churches here that are back to meeting in person for Sunday worship. A few pastors have come right out & said their congregations are mainly composed of folks over 65, so they think they'll continue online worship for the time being. I think each congregation should do what they feel is best. I know - not everyone is in good enough health to go out around people, and it would be best for them to stay home. That makes sense. People who want to, and believe they're in good health, should be able to attend a worship service in person ... as well as go shopping, camping, fishing, boating, attend funerals and weddings, and vote in person, etc. There are so many people online who are basically shrieking that everyone needs to stay home. An old Army buddy's son, who I have known since he was a little boy, & a young woman he knows were bashing this state for opening up the state parks and lakes last week. The son said he hoped all of the people who are filling up the stores, campgrounds, lakes, etc will die of covid-19. I politely jumped in the middle of him with both feet. Can you imagine wishing for a large number of people to die?!? He tried to argue the point but he didn't really have one so admitted he was speaking out frustration. Me too. One gal went off today on people going to church - saying if we're true Christians, she thinks reading our Bible should be comfort enough, we shouldn't need other people (didn't sound like she had a clue). A friend told her - if you don't want to go out, stay home, but don't tell others how to worship! A friend of many years has been ranting all week about how mailing in votes is the only acceptable way to vote. I politely disagreed - told her: I'm not ill; my immune system is not compromised so far as I know; I have been out shopping and meeting with tenants & repairmen; and I want to walk into the polling place, vote in person, and watch my vote tallied as I feed it into the machine that counts votes. My point to all of these people is they should stay home and live their lives that way if they want to - but don't demand the rest of us do the same. Edward asked me if people were bugging me today. I told him it's not just today! And added that I'm now officially on vacation! - showed him the guy in outerspace with a handgun & a beer. Added, "I'm there, right there with Chris & Andrew." He knows Chris & Andrew so fell out laughing.

Good morning! It's actually cool with rain in the forecast for all day, tho' it hasn't started yet. Some holidays are like this. At least there were no storms last night so this whole household had a good night's sleep. I appreciated that. Hope y'all have a great day! I don't know if it's still there, but there used to be a large plank hanging on the wall in one of the main buildings for officer training at Ft. Sill. This verse of scripture was routered into it. That had a major impact on me - to know that a verse was mounted in plain sight of the public in a military installation. This has always been one of my favorite verses since that time.

I mowed my parents lawn today and made a big batch of spaghetti for our dinner. When I got home this evening, May was being a fluffy couch potato.

Miss May is so sweet! I really like that couch! I hope you all have had a great day. We've had a good day, in spite of the cloud cover, drizzle, and cool temperatures. We spent twice as long as expected adjusting and re-installing a sump pump at a listing of Sweetie's that is closing tomorrow. Couldn't get the float adjusted to kick on as it should have. It works fine, just doesn't want to float. He ended up turning it on and draining the crawlspace. He adjusted the float one more time and called it done. The buyers will likely need to re-adjust it but he's going to tell their Realtor that. That house was listed "as is", but the divorced owners did agree to make appraiser-required repairs as there were not many of those. I'll be as happy as Sweetie & the divorced sellers once this transaction closes. We're about to have a cookout-style dinner - angus beef burgers, baked beans, and potato salad. I've worked on sorting out that large pantry shelf that's full of light bulbs, some storage bags, and other odds 'n ends but I'm not going to get it finished this evening. I'm going to slow down after dinner, I think. Except I do have to finish the load of laundry I have in the dryer. We felt so grubby when we got back from that house that we changed clothes & rounded up a few odds 'n ends to toss in the washer.
