Good morning! Tomorrow is the first day of Spring, but Winter isn't going to give up without a fight. Our temperature here this morning is 22 with a wind chill of ten. I might just have to turn the heat up a bit. Edit to add: Being this cold here is unusual for this late in March, but I can't complain too much. The record low temp recorded here for this date was -31 degrees in 1916.

edited to add: Just thought I'd share this because the egg salad description is something I'd like for breakfast and the tuna salad is something I'd like for lunch. A local insurance agent posted a fb thread today about a fully-automated McDonald's that has just opened up in Denver. I made some comments in her thread and a guy jumped in talking about the price of eating out. He cooks at a restaurant that I think is in the Dallas area, but not sure - I don't know the man. I commented to him that these descriptions sound delicious, but I wouldn't be able to pay those prices. He came back and told me how many dozen eggs & pounds of tuna he goes through on an average morning and on weekend mornings, and it was a whole lot. Obviously, that restaurant sells a lot of items & meals/day. I'd guess he's at a restaurant at a very upscale hotel, but I don't really know. I copied his page & cut it down to save the egg salad & tuna salad descriptions so I can make them this way, y'know - call them "egg salad-plus" and "tuna salad-deluxe" or something like that. View AttachmentDepending on the portion size, those prices don't seem too far out of line with what it costs to eat out here. After church this morning I got a tuna salad wrap with a drink and a small bag of chips at a little sandwich shop over that way, and my bill was $18.69. And that is one of the cheaper places around here. This talk about egg salad and tuna salad has got me thinking of something my Grandma used to make frequently when I was little. It was like ham salad, but instead of regular ham she would use canned SPAM lunch meat ground fine and mixed with mayonnaise and chopped onions and pickle relish. Not the healthiest thing to eat, but that stuff was good. I haven't had any of that in years. Whenever we would have family picnics in the summer, she would always bring her SPAM Salad sandwiches along with a variety of homemade potato salad, macaroni salad, coleslaw, and some kind of homemade desert. I might just have to add a can or two of SPAM to my next grocery list.

At noon, we are up to 32 degrees but not expected to get much higher today. On the other hand, the rest of this week is forecast to have temperatures in the 60s and 70s.

And that is one of the cheaper places around here. Cost of living is lower here - always has been & definitely still is. That price you paid made my jaw drop. I don't know of any place in town where you can even get tuna salad or a tuna wrap, except maybe at the Hilton Garden Inn or the bigger convenience stores/gas stations. We don't have little sandwich shops or mom 'n pop-type restaurants any more. They couldn't make it financially & closed over the past 20 years. Wages are lower here, and we don't have the industry/jobs like so many other places have. If it weren't for Ft. Sill, Goodyear, Bar-S Foods, and Republic Paper (a wallboard co.), there would be no large employers here. We're supposed to be getting a cobalt refinery, but that isn't definite until it happens. Pretty sure there's a can of Turkey Spam in the pantry. We used to have at least one, sometimes two, church picnics in the summer. I had a favorite potato salad recipe I'd make, or if someone had beat me to signing up for potato salad, I'd make the macaroni salad. Those were always a lot of fun!

I like this new chat thread for the the Spring, Mel. Hope your weekend is going well, Jeanette! It was 26 at 7 a.m., and it's up to 44 now at 12:30. It still feels like the high 30s. Leela & Milo have run in & out, sitting in the sun and enjoying the chill air. They may not have any cold water to play in, but they do their best to act like these big bears!

Your avatar of the cat with Spring approaching is great, Mel. I had to enlarge it to see what was over its head ... and then I had the 'ah-ha!' and had to laugh. Hope you have a great afternoon! I'll be working on projects around the house.

Good morning! 29 here at 7 a.m. but it's warming up. Happy First Day of Spring! See y'all later - gotta be at small claims court at 10; need to run now so I can get a decent parking space. Hope everyone has a great Monday! edited to add: Found a great parking space. The walk up the steps & across the wide open area to the only courthouse entrance open these days was pretty cold & windy but at least it's sunny.

I've owned my new car for all of 4 days, and I'm already getting offers in the mail for extended car warranties for it! Sorry, but it already has a 5 year / 60,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty from the dealership. So, no thanks! I've also discovered that this car is equipped with Alexa to allow voice control of just about everything on the car other than the actual driving. I turned that particular feature off as soon as I figured out how to do so.
