Well, good morning you! Not having met you in person, all I can say is that I think that's a good picture of you - the beard makes you look sophisticated. I hope you survived that spicy gumbo. We had homemade jalapeno poppers with dinner last evening. I was wondering if they were gonna boomerang on me at 2 a.m. but thankfully they did not. I used to eat a lot more spicy food than I do now. DH put down yard stuff, as it wasn’t supposed to rain … But now the weather app says rain gonna be a happening. Good morning, Jeanette! It was really dark at 7:30 this morning. I opened the patio door & saw it was just beginning to rain. We had a pretty heavy shower till about 9:15. The sun has burst through a hole in the clouds now & it's shining on the rain drops hanging off the pecan limbs. It's beautiful. Glad you got some good rest last night! It was in the mid-50s at 7:30 but it's dropped back about 5 degrees with the rain. I'm about to head off to the office to finish invoicing the tenants for the latest electric bills at the big complex. I call it the 'big complex' because it's like a 34-unit, 1-bedroom, motel. The sister complex is about 2-1/2 miles south; it's 2 buildings of 8 units each - so like a small, 1-bedroom motel. Anyway, unless I have to file in the morning to evict a brawler who's behind on rent, I think I'm taking off the rest of the week for the New Year's. Hope y'all have a great day!

I had a little indigestion over night but not too bad. On the other hand, I did have some really strange dreams: I was wandering around in my old high school and couldn't find my way out, Sharon and May were with me. At some point the scene changed and instead of the school we were in a huge shopping mall and couldn't find my car, though why we were looking for the car inside the mall is a mystery. I woke up before we found it and couldn't get back to sleep, so I just got up and got ready for the day. Edit to add: I don't remember my dreams very often, but when I do they tend to be rather "out there" more often than not.

And just when I think that the "Woke" can't make themselves look any more foolish, the Christmas song "Jingle Bells" is now considered to be racist: ‘Jingle Bells’ removed from NY elementary school curriculum over ‘questionable past’The popular Christmas song “Jingle Bells” was removed from a New York elementary school’s music curriculum over its “questionable past.” The decision to drop the song was first reported by the Rochester Beacon in New York, prompting the Brighton Central School District’s superintendent in a Dec. 28 letter to defend the move at Council Rock Primary School as an effort “to be more culturally responsive, thoughtful, and inclusive.” “It may seem silly to some, but the fact that ‘Jingle Bells’ was first performed in minstrel shows where white actors performed in blackface does actually matter when it comes to questions of what we use as material in school,” Superintendent Kevin McGowan wrote. Brighton Central School District Assistant Superintendent Allison Rioux told the Rochester Beacon that “some suggest that the use of collars on slaves with bells to send an alert that they were running away is connected to the origin of the song Jingle Bells.” “While we are not taking a stance to whether that is true or not,” she continued, “we do feel strongly that this line of thinking is not in agreement with our district beliefs to value all cultures and experiences of our students.” www.yahoo.com/news/jingle-bells-removed-ny-elementary-173507367.html

Y'know, in past times, I might have read a headline like that, and responded with an eye roll, a yawn, and a page turn. Y'know, it's New York - miles from here where the people live in a different world. Doesn't affect us or our kids so not interested. Fast Forward to the "Roaring 'Woke' 20s of the 21st Century!" Now, I read a headline like that and I want to chase some people around with a rolling pin, knocking some sense into their heads if I catch them. Attachment Deleted This "woke" nonsense hurts people. Of all colors, races, religions. It's wrong-headed; it's hateful; it's dividing our country. It's plain evil and terrible.

That was an interesting dream you had, Mel. Sometimes I remember mine, but not always. I just got home from the office. I have to go in tomorrow for maybe an hour - 2 at the most, and then I'm off until Monday. The MRI went well this afternoon, I guess. It was an open MRI; very noisy - I laid there with my eyes shut & made up sci-fi scenarios that fit the sounds. Well, heh, it kept me lying still. We're hanging around the house now, waiting on the daughter of a dear, departed friend to call us. We're getting together to see her dad's house. He was a hoarder, but that's ok. She told Edward when she called a little earlier, that she wants his honest opinion as to whether she "should simply raze the place - ?" Edward told her no, no - it has value, and we have investors who will buy it! She had something to do at 3 & is supposed to call when she's available again. Her husband is a naval commander; they have 3 children; and the 5 of them are really good people. We hit it off well at her dad's memorial service in June so I'm really happy she called. Not sure how long she's going to be in town. Miss Franny Dog gave me a scare this morning. She acted unready to wake up and get up, but she made herself do it. We headed out the back door okay, till she discovered it was raining 'out there'. 'In here' was the only place she wanted to be. Hard to describe it - she acted like she was going back to sleep and never waking up again, really. She didn't wag her tail, didn't want to open her eyes to see what going on around her. She didn't give any indication if she had a tummy ache, if arthritis was bothering her, and she didn't seem to have a breathing problem. I coaxed her to eat breakfast so she got up & did that, but it was right back to bed afterwards with her eyes tight shut & her tail pulled up under her. When I left for the office, she was on the end of the doggy futon closest to Edward's desk, and Leela was on the end closest to the front door. Leela simply looked sad, and I wondered if it was because of Franny's behavior. But ... both dogs met me at the laundry room door when I came in through the garage a bit ago. Franny was bright eyed and full of tail wags. I petted and hugged her for awhile after she had a dog biscuit. Edward said Leela had gone out the front door not long after I left, and she saw something to bark at. Franny jumped up and ran for the door at that point, went outside & helped bark. Since that, she's been her typical cheery self the rest of the day. Whew! I'm thrilled about that! I know she's 13, but still, that's not really old as most of our dogs in the more distant past have lived to be 14-16+

It was good to see our friend's daughter and son-in-law. The house has been largely cleaned out of his possessions - there is an old console tv with a turntable in the top left section, and space to store probably records in the top right; an old tall grandfather clock; and a china hutch & dining room table. I love items like those! I expect the family is going to sell those items. It will be interesting to see what sort of price the house brings - it'll go to an investor who will probably pretty much gut the place and then flip it after the remodel is done. The curb appeal on that house ^^^ is good, for being an older home like it is. (I'm missing our friend, can you tell? His daughter is too - this has been/still is hard on her emotionally. It'll be okay.) I splurged and treated myself to a t-shirt from an organization that I hope is on the level - the TVP Project. TV = Til Valhalla. They sell merchandise, a decent percentage of the proceeds from which go to support therapy for veterans, particularly those with PTSD .The goal is to stop the suicides before they happen. That's a cause near & dear to my heart - stopping veterans from suicide. The average is 22 suicides/day. In a nation that is still as ripe with opportunities to "be all that you can be", and to have the basic necessities to, at a minimum, maintain life, that's sad and terrible. I want one of these bracelets also, but they were a bit more than I wanted to pay right now, so I bought the t-shirt I've been wanting since I first saw it awhile back.

‘Morning Temperature here at 4:30am ish is 63 degrees!
Yesterday, I was able to get a workout routine done with stretches, weighted hula hoop & weights. Although no cardio, outside, it still was good.
Afterward, DH & I went to a range closer to DD#2, as the one close to us was ladies day. I fired some, tried the one DH was using and was done. So I stepped out for a protein snack, while DH finished up. One of the guys behind the counter & DH talked for a bit re their military time etc. DD#2 has a good reputation of target shooting, as well as making a Greek tzatziki thing the guys at her range & boxing class love to eat!
We picked up some food, went by DD#2 & hung out with grands while DD#2 went to her gym class. This was a God time there, as her hubby was due home, to be with kiddos, but someone was ill at the restaurant and it worked out that we had called & offered to stay & visit with grands! I finished watching a movie called “Unaccompanied Minors” on their YouTube channel, as well as checked out grand daughters new makeup kit, etc and grandsons latest toy cars, their bunny Mr Blizzard.
We arrived home about 9:30pm ish and there was another ham from Chicago on the front step! A guy DH has known & worked with for many years started sending hams to us a number of years ago, around Christmas time, for the family. One had arrived while we were in Florida, but had sat Unrefrigerated for at least two or three days. So it was tossed. Yesterday’s 8 lb was delivered ~between after we had left (2:30) and we arrived home (9:30) ~ and sat outside on the front step all those hrs. Although it wasn’t cold out, (we wore shorts!) it was overcast and light rain. DH thinks it is fine, as the ham was still cold and it wasn’t two or three days out there. Me, I’m not convinced it is … any thoughts? FYI we weren’t expecting a ham nor did we have info for when it’d be delivered either time.
Oh wow it 5 am now and the temperature is 62 degrees.

Good morning! It is 45 degrees and raining here this morning. I made an early run to the grocery store this morning to pick up a few things that I needed. The store already has a whole aisle of Valentine's Day candy and gifts set up. Surprisingly, they didn't seem to have anything for New Year's. Usually there are at least a few shelves of party favors, hats, paper plates, etc with the year on them.

When I worked in food service for many years, most commercial hams that were left out at room temperature (more than 40 degrees F) were considered spoiled and had to be thrown away after 2 hours. On the other hand, my grandparents who raised hogs and cured and smoked their own hams never refrigerated them at all. They just kept them on hooks in the basement. Sorry I couldn't give a better answer.

Good morning Jeanette, good morning Mel.
It's 35° & sunny this morning. Supposed to reach 68° this afternoon. I hope it does.
I don't know about ham, but I think your hubby is probably right. If it was well packaged & still cold to the touch, I'd expect it was still good to eat.
I'm heading to the office to finish billing for electric. I have to be home with the car by 11:30 so Sweetie can show houses at noon. Hope y'all have a great day!
