Mm, yeh...no. I call foul on the term "natural flavor." I know, natural and artificial flavors are both capable of using real or faux ingredients to produce them. However, in the purest sense, "natural" beef flavor would have to use something called "beef" in order to be real "natural".

British Politician criticized for saying that Fake Meat Is Like 'Transgender Vegetarianism'A Baroness Ruth Deech, who is a crossbench member of the House of Lords, made the comments on a BBC Radio 4 program when asked if she would eat vegetarian food resembling meat. "No, I don't think I would especially if this thing is being done up to look as if it's bleeding," said the former Principal of St Anne's College, Oxford, and ex chair of the Human Fertilization and Embryology Authority, a UK body which regulates treatments such as IVF. "And if you want to be a vegetarian you should just go out and eat lettuce and spring onions and so on, and have done with it. I don't like this crossover really. It's this sort of transgender vegetarianism," she said. Her comments were met with a backlash on social media. Users questioned Baroness Deech's use of the term transgender, particularly as they were made a day after Transgender Day of Visibility, which has been marked annually on March 31 since 2009 to celebrate transgender people. www.newsweek.com/fake-meat-transgender-vegetarianism-says-ruth-deech-bbc-radio-4-869656

As for what the Baroness said, I'm still Attachment Deleted The Baroness certainly has a way with words!

Lab-Grown Chicken Just Got Approved For Sale In Grocery StoresA press release shared earlier in the week proudly declared that the U.S. Department of Agriculture has approved for sale chicken made from cultivated cells. Two California-based companies, Upside Foods and Good Meat, have received the go-ahead to produce "slaughter-free" meat for restaurants and eventually grocery stores. “I’m thrilled to share that cultivated meat will now be available for consumers in the U.S.,” said Dr. Uma Valeti, Upside’s CEO and founder, in a statement. “This approval will fundamentally change how meat makes it to our table...We are excited to launch with our signature, whole-textured Upside chicken and can’t wait for consumers to taste the future.” www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/lab-grown-chicken-just-got-213600189.htmlThis whole idea make me want to

Chicken made from animal cells in a lab was served at a Michelin-starred restaurant in San FranciscoLab-grown chicken produced entirely from animal cells was served for the first time in the US at a San Francisco restaurant on Saturday. Upside Foods and Good Meat both recently received approval from the Food and Drug Administration that deemed their cultivated chicken safe to eat, and approval from the US Department of Agriculture that meant their products could go on sale. Winners of a social media contest were the first diners to try the cultivated chicken at Bar Crenn, the companies announced. The chicken was fried in a tempura batter, and served with a burnt chili aioli and other greens and edible flowers – served in a black ceramic dish. www.yahoo.com/news/chicken-made-animal-cells-lab-113000964.html

True statement! I do almost 100% of the grocery shopping for our household. Sometimes, I really have to search high & low to make sure I'm not loading up the cart with chemicals & other sorts of faux "food". "faux food" - what an irony. It's no wonder humans are so unhealthy these days! Our soils are depleted and our "foods" are not nutritious either because they are not ee-ven food!

Okay, I was randomly flipping through a big folder of memes, photos, a few copies of family genealogy, etc. This was in that folder, and it seems to fit, considering your post about real food vs food-like substances, so I had to come back over here and share it!

I like meat, and I like vegetables. No need for one to impersonate the other. Joking aside, the few veggie "meat" products that I have tried were actually pretty good for the most part, but they could never pass for the real thing.
I suppose that they might impact the beef and other meat industries somewhat, but I don't think there is any real danger that they would be put out of business anytime soon.
I started re-reading this massive thread this evening. Right off, two things struck me: 1. This post is right at 4 yrs old. I would have never expected this entire faux meat industry to come so far so fast as it has in 4 yrs, and for there to be so many options for meatless meats. 2. Looking back on it, the "meatless" burgers I had eaten in the past, and they were few and far between, they were made of things like black beans, carrots, onions all squished together and fried up. I'm really not sure what made them stick together, but I'd guess it was flour. They were pretty good. One of the local restaurants had a black bean burger and it was delicious! Those sorts of meatless burgers were reportedly offered to give vegetarians, vegans, & people who were supporting a push to cut greenhouse gases something they could enjoy for dinner. ... And they were NOTHING like the faux meats we're being offered today. It was hard for me to take the coming faux world seriously when I was being offered a black bean burger for dinner because it was made with real food items. I couldn't believe the meatless meats would morph much further than real burgers made with black beans or made with refried beans (I've had those too ).
