Walmart has announced it will be offering "sensory-friendly" shopping hours every day in stores all across the country. The nation's largest retailer first tested out sensory-friendly hours just on Saturday mornings this summer during back-to-school season. During that pilot program, stores changed TV walls to a static image, turned off the radio and lowered the lights where possible The company said the feedback from the test was overwhelmingly positive. Starting Friday, Nov. 10, all Walmart stores in the U.S. and Puerto Rico will have sensory-friendly hours from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. local time every day. The current plan is to continue offering these daily hours indefinitely. Cedric Clark, Walmart's executive vice president of store operations, said all customers will be able to find a "calmer shopping experience" during these morning hours. www.wnep.com/article/news/nation-world/walmart-sensory-friendly-shopping-hours/507-ae0f0cf7-aefa-4fd3-a995-b48498562ab1?fbclid=IwAR1YynEAgeyk3oo_hdG42vG3C9pLxkUUWlk0egWmOQP4VMxw-OOk0TR7uxw

Whenever I have to go into a store to shop (especially a big box store like Walmart), I tend to be in and out as quickly as I can possibly manage to be. I'm not ever there long enough to care about how "sensory-friendly" the store environment is.

Bwahahahaha I grew up with store music geared to certain shopping hours & seasons. A lot of research has gone into that. Up-tempo music keeps shoppers moving; slower music keeps them looking longer; specific seasonal & holiday music encourages them to buy more of those related items. Now we're going to treat the store as a blank & sound-less canvas for a few hours a day. And even dim the lights. I hope people who feel that will improve their shopping experience get out & make the most of it. I'm happy they'll feel more comfortable. I won't be one among them. The quiet, & lowered lights ideas make my skin crawl. Hyper girl here wants to be hyper.

Maybe Walmart is having trouble paying their electric bill with everyone moving to online shopping.

Maybe Walmart is having trouble paying their electric bill with everyone moving to online shopping. Could be true! Electric rates here have jumped considerably over the past 18 months.
