A school at the centre of a row over children identifying as animals is facing a Government investigation, The Telegraph can reveal. A teacher at Rye College, a state secondary in East Sussex, was recorded telling a pupil who refused to accept her classmate was a cat that she was despicable. Gillian Keegan, the Education Secretary, is understood to have ordered an investigation into the Church of England school. Pupils were told they would be reported to a senior school leader for refusing to affirm their classmate’s preferred feline identity. The teacher said they had “really upset” the “cat” by telling them “you’re a girl”. After the pupils said they believed there are only two genders, the teacher said: “Why do you think we have so many problems in the world with homophobia?” www.yahoo.com/news/heads-stop-teachers-allowing-children-140555472.html

That "teacher" has no business being around children.

School engulfed in ‘cat gender’ row turns to parents for views on self-identityThe school at the centre of a “cat gender” row has asked its parents to give their views on identity issues to ensure “equitable debate” in classrooms. A teacher at Rye College, a state secondary in East Sussex, was recorded telling a 13-year-old pupil who refused to accept her classmate could identify as a cat that she was “despicable”. The teacher told the Year 8 pupils they were being reported to a senior leader and were no longer welcome at the school if they continued to express the view that only boys and girls exist. It came as Downing Street and Sir Keir Starmer, the Labour leader, both criticised further examples revealed by this newspaper of children across the country identifying as cats, horses, dinosaurs and even moons. On Thursday the school, part of the Aquinas Church of England Education Trust, broke its silence on the row by writing a letter to parents, which has been shared in full with The Telegraph. The school now says that no children at Rye College identify as a cat or any other animal. However, the girls and their parents claimed it was their understanding that one did. Dominic Downes, the head teacher, wrote: “I would first like to reassure you that we have taken this matter very seriously. We have now met with the Department for Education (DfE) to share an update of the events that took place before, during and after the recording. “The meeting was a positive step and we will continue working closely with them to ensure any appropriate action is taken.” He added that “we will be seeking our parents’ views on this and other matters in the coming weeks, to ensure that the approach we take in school is tailored to the community and children we serve”. He also said the school wants to “ensure equitable debate across all our classrooms”. www.yahoo.com/news/school-engulfed-cat-gender-row-192313329.html

So, now that the parents and the community have made their outrage known, the school now wants to claim that the incident never really happened even though it was recorded as it happened. And even though they claim it never happened, "appropriate action is being taken" to make sure it doesn't happen again. Talk about talking out both sides of the mouth! Edit to add: If I had school age children of my own these days, I would absolutely be doing home schooling if I could in any way manage it.
