Starbucks says it will now offer employees enrolled in its health care plan reimbursement for eligible travel expenses when accessing abortion or gender-affirming procedures, when those services are not available within 100 miles of a worker's home. The Seattle-based coffee chain said Monday that the benefit will also be available to dependents of employees enrolled in its health care coverage. More companies are detailing their benefits on abortion care after draft of a Supreme Court opinion leaked that would abolish a nationwide right to abortion. “Regardless of what the Supreme Court ends up deciding, we will always ensure our partners have access to quality health care," Sara Kelly, Starbucks acting executive vice president of partner resources, wrote in a letter. finance.yahoo.com/news/starbucks-cover-travel-workers-seeking-130425236.html

As more and more big companies do this sort of thing, I can't help wondering if it has anything to do with the fact that helping employees to get an abortion is cheaper than providing maternity leave?

Edward read an article on that very thing last week. I think was Amazon whose management stated that.

I can see a dark future for employees who want a child, or at least who get pregnant and want to keep their child. Will their be corporate pressure (subtle or otherwise) to not have children, to abort a baby? I can even see bonuses tied to such decisions.
