Officials in Surry County, North Carolina, voted to remove Coca-Cola machines from all government facilities in response to the beverage company CEO's remarks about Georgia's controversial new voting law. The ban passed during a Board of Commissioners meeting on May 17 with a 3-2 vote as a direct response to Coca-Cola CEO James Quincey's comments calling the voting law "unacceptable" and "a step backwards." Commissioner Ed Harris provided "TODAY" Digital with the copy of a letter he sent Quincey, calling out the company's "corporate political commentary favoring the Democratic party" and announcing the decision to remove Coca-Cola machines from government facilities.

We vote with our pocketbooks in mind, more often than not. Hit Coke where it counts & they may backdown on their political views.

I tend to agree with that, but these days it sometimes seems like there are hardly any of the major companies that don't support at least some things that are objectionable to the point of justifying a boycott.

You are so right! And I can't boycott everything/every company. Some days I think of that old sing-song childhood ditty my mother taught us: "Nobody likes me. Everybody hates me. Think I'll just go out back & eat worms!" I thought that was dumber than yelling, "Nyah! Nyah!" or "Nanny Boo-boo" at someone. I wish I'd asked her, after I was grown, where she learned that, but it didn't come up so didn't cross my mind. I don't believe I spend enough anywhere to keep any business in business, or to put any business out of business by boycotting them. However, there are things I no longer have any desire to take part in - like, Disney movies, Disney theme parks; and I've never been a soda drinker so no $ from me going into cans of Coke, Pepsi, or Mountain Dew, etc. ... You get the idea. And then again, Disney owns ABC, of which our local TV station is an affiliate. I'm guessing some amount of our cable bill funds keeping ABC (& therefore local news) coming into my living room.

Oh, my goodness! What a song! Mom must not have known it all because the way I wrote it was just how she sing-songy sang it to us. Her version didn't quite fit, lyrically rhythmically. That's a 13th-century rhyme. Well, my mother and grandmother always did behave as if they were living in the 1400s. Thanks for posting that link, Mel!
