Japan is well known for long office hours and stressed out employees, but one company claims to have a cure: Cats. The Japanese IT firm Ferray has introduced an “office cat” policy to combat the stressful workplace environment. A total of 9 furry felines eat, sleep and walk freely in the Ferray Tokyo office.
Hidenobu Fukuda, who heads the firm, actually introduced the famous cat policy in 2000 upon request from one of his employees, allowing staffers to bring their cats to work. He agreed, and since then he allows any employee to bring in their BFFs.

I don't know what Ferray's office space is like, but I can't see this working in any US office I've been associated with. Too many doors opening to the outside world. Not enough small space privacy so everyone's cat would likely be with everyone else's cat - lots of chances for fighting & spreading illnesses. But on the other hand, I have a friend who speaks mandarin, is a Buddhist, has a doctorate in anthropology, and is a vegan ... and she has spent an inordinate amount of hours over the past decade working in Nepal and parts of China. While doing that, she has been involved with Trap-Neuter-Release programs of cats in whatever locale she was in. She's been fostering cats nonstop over the past 15 months. She has probably saved the lives of countless cats, while continuing her own teaching and research efforts. This program in Japan is probably good for both the people and the cats.
