Creole Seasoning, Homemade
This recipe is wonderful because you can modify it to suit your family's tastes - want it a little less spicy? Use less cayenne pepper. Want to add a slightly smoky flavor, use Smoked Paprika instead of regular Paprika.
Basic Recipe:
Ingredients:
5 tsp paprika 4 tsp salt, or to taste 4 tsp garlic powder 4 tsp onion powder 2 tsp ground black pepper 1 tsp cayenne pepper, or to taste 2 tsp dried oregano 2 tsp dried thyme
Instructions:
1. Combine all the spices together.
2. Store in an air-tight container. Will keep for months.
Barb's Version of Creole Seasoning Recipe:
Ingredients:
4 tsp Smoked Paprika 1-1/2 tsp Table Salt 4 tsp Garlic Powder 4 tsp Onion Powder 2 tsp Ground Black Pepper 1/2 tsp Cayenne Pepper 1 TBSP Mrs. Dash Italian Seasoning* 1/2 tsp Thyme 1/4-1/2 tsp Turmeric
* With no Oregano on-hand, Mrs. Dash Italian Seasoning made sense to use: it contains some amount of oregano and thyme, plus a little black pepper and no salt. The 1/2 tsp of Thyme as added because we like Thyme, and thought the recipe might need that, as the Italian Seasoning might not contain "enough".
Instructions:
1. Combine all the spices together.
2. Store in an air-tight container. Will keep for months.
Remember:
3 teaspoons (tsp) = 1 Tablespoon (TBSP)
1-1/2 teaspoons (tsp) = 1/2 Tablespoon (TBSP)
