SPARTANBURG, S.C. (WSPA) – A Spartanburg woman recently had a surprise guest in her kitchen. It’s a guest experts say they’ve never seen inside an Upstate home before.
“One of my dogs came through here, and he started barking and looking all over, like there was a mouse or something,” Sandie Ferguson said as she walked us through her kitchen.
Ferguson is a dog-lover. She has two pups of her own and decorates her home with dog-themed art.
But the kind of “dog” she got a surprise visit from last weekend was not the kind of dog she’s used to seeing inside her home.
That’s because that “dog” was a coyote. She told 7 News he came through a doggie door and pinned himself in the corner of her breakfast room.
“When I first saw him, I thought ‘It’s a coyote. Then I thought, ‘No, it has to be a dog.’ But he didn’t move, he didn’t bark, he didn’t growl or whimper,” she said.
Ferguson told 7 News that’s when she called 911.

That would have been scary! <-- thinking of the coyotes we have around here. I'm happy to hear the lady nor her dogs were hurt. The coyotes have become pretty brave around here, although I've never known of any incidents where they got into someone's house. After that young one ran the fence with our dogs one night, a few years ago - and I really think they were just playing because neither the coyote nor our dogs (Houston & Ge'dogg) were growling or barking aggressively - Edward said if we didn't have a 6' wood privacy fence, we'd definitely be getting one! We've closed our doggy doors ever since Fran came to live here because she so enjoyed going out back at 2 a.m. to howl with the coyotes.
