Trailblazing Christian music artist Carman Licciardello, known to fans simply as Carman, has died. An update on his Facebook page Tuesday evening says he passed away at a Las Vegas, Nevada hospital after fighting a series of complications resulting from surgery to repair a hiatal hernia. Carman, a GMA Gospel Music Hall of Fame member, had turned 65 while in the hospital on Jan. 19. As CBN News reported three weeks ago, he underwent hernia surgery which had resulted in a sudden, life-threatening crisis, including internal bleeding, organ failure and then pneumonia. Carman had been diagnosed with incurable multiple myeloma cancer in 2013. He experienced several years of recovery. Then he reported last year that cancer had returned but he wouldn't stop fighting and he planned to continue touring. Last week, Carman's team reported on his Facebook page, "Due to his long fight with cancer and the effect that has on the body, his bounce back from this has been slower than he would like. He appreciates all of the care and prayers you have sent his way." In announcing Carman's death on Feb. 16, his manager Matt Felts said, "This world has lost a light in the darkness but today Carman saw first hand the fruit of his labors." Carman wasn't just an iconic Christian musician, he was also an inspired evangelist who led countless tens of thousands of souls to Christ throughout his decades-long ministry. www1.cbn.com/cbnnews/cwn/2021/february/christian-singer-carman-dies-after-being-hospitalized-for-health-crisis

I hadn't heard anything about his having cancer, being hospitalized for hernia repair ... none of that. This is sad. We are losing a lot of strong evangelists. I know many are getting along in years, but still ... just seems like this year of the pandemic has taken a lot of folks, locally & nationwide, who I wouldn't have expected to pass on for a few more years. Carman has probably already heard that, "Well done, good and faithful servant!" accolade.

I first heard his music at a Bible study club that I attended when I was in high school in the mid 1980s. I've always been more for the older traditional hymns; but of the little bit of contemporary Christian music that I do like, Carmen was one of my favorites. I've followed his cancer battle with interest these last few years because it was the same extremely rare form of myeloma that my Sharon had. It is ironic that after surviving for far longer than what is usual with that particular type of cancer for so many years, it was complications from what should have been a fairly routine surgery that finished him off. Christian celebrities don't usually impress me, but he is one that I am looking forward to meeting in the Kingdom some day. Praying for his loved ones in their time of loss, but also thanking God for his decades of ministry.

Praying for his family & friends.
While DD#4 was here her last week, she looked up Carmen on YouTube to show her kiddos what we used to watch on VHS! Babylon Bee had a good saying for Carmen today that included his various song titles, like “Satan, Bite the Dust” etc.

I really liked a lot of his songs, but my favorite would probably be a three way tie between "The Champion", "Lazarus Come Forth", and "Sunday's on the Way".
