The brand formerly known as Aunt Jemima finally has a new name: Pearl Milling Company. The longtime brand announced they would remove the outdated image of Aunt Jemima at the end of 2020, with the name change happening at a later date. The new logo is slated to appear on store shelves in June 2021.
The rebranded Pearl Milling Company said in a statement that the new name was workshopped with “consumers, employees, external cultural and subject-matter experts, and diverse agency partners,” and “developed with inclusivity in mind.” It also plans to make a $1 million “commitment to empower and uplift Black girls and women.”

Meh! The name change is so unnecessary. All of this nonsense makes me sad ... brand name changes without a real consideration of the people behind the brand names, and/or any consideration of their family's desires. A wiping away of our history, like wiping condensation off a window with a sleeve while believing the view beyond the window will suddenly "mean something!" when it really meant something already. I've come to the conclusion that people are not getting enough oxygen to their brains to be able to think rationally these days.

Replacement Name for 'Racist' Aunt Jemima Syrup Announced, Gets Cold Reception from the Publicwww.westernjournal.com/replacement-name-racist-aunt-jemima-syrup-announced-gets-cold-reception-public/?utm_source=Email&utm_medium=newsletter-WJ&utm_campaign=dailyam&utm_content=western-journal“Pearl Milling Company-branded pancake mixes, syrups, cornmeal, flour, and grits products will start to arrive in market in June 2021,” the statement said. “Products will continue to be available under the Aunt Jemima name without the character image until June.” The company sought to say the change was a return to the product’s roots. “Though new to store shelves, Pearl Milling Company was founded in 1888 in St. Joseph, Missouri, and was the originator of the iconic self-rising pancake mix that would later become known as Aunt Jemima,” the statement said. But to many, the change is a mistake. One reader tweeted: "I'm still calling it Aunt Jemima" while another tweeted: "I'm not buying it" and posted this image of the retired and new logos. Attachment DeletedI have to agree. I don't buy these products - we only use real maple syrup - but I'll always call this brand Aunt Jemima & still love her!

Yep, I will still call it Aunt Jemima, and I still call my favorite brand of rice Uncle Ben's too.
