RIO LINDA, Calif. — Santa, leave the flying to the reindeer. A man dressed as Santa Claus while on a powered parachute was rescued after getting stuck on some power lines Sunday morning in California. The California Highway Patrol’s North Sacramento Office also responded to the rescue, saying in a Facebook post that: “Turns out Santa was trying to get some last-minute fun in before the holiday and got into a hot wire situation.”
The Federal Aviation Administration said the incident happened around 11 a.m. and the Santa had taken off near a school in Rio Linda.
Power was shut off to about 200 customers in the Rio Linda area during the rescue, according to Sac Metro Fire.
“Immediately after power was shut off, we were able to move firefighters up into the power line and then lower the pilot — Santa Claus — down to safety,” said Chris Vestal with Sac Metro Fire.
Vestal said the man was trying to do something nice for kids in the community.
“He was trying to deliver candy canes to kids that were playing through in the community. We commend him for that. It’s unfortunate, but we all need to remember that there’s still a lot of good out in the world, there are people doing good things and to look at the brightness of the holiday season," Vestal said.
Santa wasn’t injured in the mishap.

I'm really happy to hear Santa Claus was not injured. Y'know, any kids in the area would have likely been traumatized - probably for life! - if they'd witnessed Santa being fried in some power lines! The spokesman for Sac Metro Fire is probably a pretty good guy himself, considering his statement, “He was trying to deliver candy canes to kids that were playing through in the community. We commend him for that. It’s unfortunate, but we all need to remember that there’s still a lot of good out in the world, there are people doing good things and to look at the brightness of the holiday season."

There was an incident here in Chambersburg several years ago where one of the local shopping Malls was going to have Santa parachute in to the Mall parking lot to have a Christmas party with the local children.
As luck would have it, a freak updraft of wind caught Santa's chute and sent him into some nearby woods where he was found hanging in a tree a few hours later.
That Santa was OK too, but he was so badly tangled in the parachute's lines that he had to be cut loose by the search party.

Now you've got me thinking about that episode of WKRP in Cincinnati where Les Nessman set up the turkey drop out of the helicopter. Remember that? And the famous line... "As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly!" I'd love one of these shirts! Attachment Deleted
