3D Doritos are officially coming back, and they'll be here by 2021. After weeks of speculation, Doritos parent company Frito-Lay announced Monday morning the legendary '90s treat is returning in the coming days. Beginning immediately, the relaunch of the iconic snack will be available for pre-order at select retailers online before popping up at grocery stores nationwide beginning Monday, December 28th. The retro snacks — puffy versions of Frito-Lay's flagship chip — were first introduced in 1998 and became a staple amongst '90s kid until they were unceremoniously removed from the snack-makers lineup a few years after the fact. At launch, the new 3D Doritos — which will have an updated name in 3D Doritos Crunch — will be available in Spicy Ranch and Chili Cheese Nacho flavors. ComicBook.com had the opportunity to try both flavors earlier this month and it should be noted they're both pretty spicy, even the Chili Cheese Nacho flavor. Frito-Lay marketing chief Rachel Ferdinando said in a press release, “We’re thrilled to introduce a new version at a time when we all could use a small moment of joy.” comicbook.com/irl/news/3d-doritos-officially-back-in-time-holidays/

Anybody remember what they looked like? I don't. Wish there was a photo of them in this article. I'll give them a try. Can't remember eating them in the past, but it might be we didn't have them locally, or the boys weren't interested. DS would have been 9, and step-DS would have been 10 at the time this chip was first introduced.

I remember them, but I never saw their appeal.
Of course, I'm not overly fond of most of the varieties of regular Doritos either.
I would much rather have plain tortilla chips or corn chips to dip in salsa or cheese dip.

I agree with you on that point, Mel. I like the "On the Border" brand of chips because they aren't overwhelming my taste buds, and they're not 'too' salty. But I'll try a lot of things once.

Oh, I do remember those! Thanks for the photo, Mel. I don't think I ever ate them, but I remember them. I may pick up a bag once they're back on the shelves. We don't keep a lot of chips around the house, except for a bag of nacho chips to go with chili or make an occasional plate of nachos.
