Stan Lee, the legendary Marvel Comics co-creator and publisher, has died at 95. Kirk Schenck, an attorney for Lee's daughter, J.C. Lee, confirmed to CBS News that Lee died at a Los Angeles hospital on Monday.
Lee, who was born Stanley Martin Leiber in 1922, grew up in the Bronx during the Great Depression. He started working at a publishing house with a division called Timely Comics in 1939. That's where Lee got his start in storytelling.

He was behind some of my favorite comics as a kid. Yes, mine too. This is a real loss to our creative and artistic world.
But, I keep reminding myself that he was 95, after all.

I was remarking to Maria that I find all of the accolades (justly deserved, make no mistake) coming Stan Lee's way to be funny considering that 50+ years ago he was a destroyer of youth! Yep, I'm old enough to remember when comic books were as bad as hard drugs, to some people, and Marvel comics were the worst. That never stopped me from buying those. Gave my parents fits, it did!

Oh yeah, I remember Dr Fredric Wertham's book "Seduction of the Innocent" being required reading when I was in junior high.

Oh yeah, I remember Dr Fredric Wertham's book "Seduction of the Innocent" being required reading when I was in junior high. Wow! I know, my parents thought comic books were obscene. I'd never heard of this psychiatrist, however, until your post, Mel. I googled the book, and found a good description on Amazon, plus 2 other companion books for reading on the subject . . .
