BALTIMORE, March 26 (Reuters) - A 948-foot container ship smashed into a four-lane bridge in the U.S. port of Baltimore in darkness early on Tuesday, causing it to collapse and sending cars and people plunging into the river below. -------- Baltimore officials said at least seven people were believed to have been thrown into the water but could not give an exact figure hours after the collision, which closed one of the busiest ports in the United States. The U.S. Coast Guard reported the collapse at 1:27 a.m. and crews were deployed for an active search and rescue mission after the Singapore-flagged container ship forced the trellis-like bridge up into a mangled mass of metal. -------- The ship "lost propulsion" as it was leaving port, and crew on board notified Maryland officials they had lost control of the vessel, ABC News reported, citing an unclassified U.S. intelligence report. The closure of one of the U.S. East Coast's major ports threatens to disrupt supplies of goods from cars, to coal and other commodities like sugar. It could create bottlenecks and increase delays and costs on the Northeastern seaboard, experts say. The port handles the most car imports and is among the largest for coal exports. -------- www.reuters.com/world/us/16-mile-bridge-baltimore-collapses-after-ship-collision-fox-baltimore-reports-2024-03-26/

This disaster will consume the news for who knows how long. Fox News' video of the ship coming up to the bridge was pretty interesting. You could see the cargo ship's light go out - it was eerie when it went dark. And then it looked like they were pouring on the coal because the stack was pumping out a lot of black smoke. I'm guessing they were trying to turn the ship but they ran out of time & space to get it away from the bridge support that they ran into. Wow! Praying for anyone on the bridge at the time of the collapse. Thankful this didn't occur during rush hour traffic.

The more that I see about this bridge collapse, the harder I find it to believe the official line that it was just an accident.

I wasn't able to find out anything more today, except that this ship had another accident a few years back, in a harbor somewhere. Not sure exactly what happened.

Last night, I found this meme combo on facebook, but I was lying in bed & scrolling on my phone. I can't find it this morning, of course. It's this combination. Dr Evil is saying something like, "They found Diddy." The Frau is yelling something like, "Blow the Bridge!" People were reacting with a laughing smiley, but I didn't see any humor in it. If Diddy is guilty of any of the big things he's accused of, then he's no different than Epstein. He needs hung from a tall tree. So could destroying the bridge & closing the port actually be a distraction? And if not a distraction from looking for Diddy, then a distraction from what? This old computer is s-l-o-w as molasses so I'd better get off of it. I have 15 minutes to make it to the office, lol.

Most of the conspiracy theories that I have been seeing regarding the bridge collapse suggest that it may have been an act of terrorism (possibly a cyber attack on the ships computer systems) against the US given that the bridge was a major route for transporting certain types of goods. One article that I read, that I can no longer find, said that supply chains for several major industries will be disrupted for up to 5 years. The wreckage from the bridge is also causing major havoc with both passenger and shipping water routes for much of the Eastern half of North America. It also seems strange that after the ship initially lost power, the backup systems took far longer than they should have to kick in and then they too failed almost right away. Of course, there have also been several comments that I have seen on Facebook as well as the comment section on a number of news articles from various (in my opinion) unhinged individuals suggesting that Trump was behind it in order to draw attention away from his current legal troubles. Trump Derangement Syndrome is real! One especially deranged individual that I blocked on Facebook (not one of my friends, just someone in one of the groups that I follow) was ranting about how Israel was behind it. He of course could not offer any kind of rational reason for why they would want to or what they could possibly gain from it.

Mm, boy, the insanity level escalates on a daily basis, all across this country. ... Trump haters. Israeli haters. Wack jobs. This does make sense: Have you heard there are something like 52 containers of hazardous materials on the ship? I haven't heard 'what sort' of hazardous materials, but that will likely cause additional issues.

It will be really interesting to see what the fallout is on this disaster over time.
