"Sea-Fever"By John Edward Masefield Published-1902 I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky, And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by; And the wheel’s kick and the wind’s song and the white sail’s shaking, And a grey mist on the sea’s face, and a grey dawn breaking. I must go down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied; And all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying, And the flung spray and the blown spume, and the sea-gulls crying. I must go down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life, To the gull’s way and the whale’s way where the wind’s like a whetted knife; And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow-rover, And quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trick’s over. Thank you for finding this poem, Mel! It had to be junior year in high school that it showed up in an English class book and I - a gal whose family never went anywhere very interesting for summer vacations while her friends' families went to Ocean City, Virginia Beach, and/or Florida - I fell in love with the idea of going to sea. I still love that poem! Since I've grown up and left home, I have been to a few locations along the coast of the Atlantic, the Pacific, and the Gulf of Mexico. I no longer believe I want to do much ocean travel, however - we took a deep sea fishing trip off the coast of Maine, in the early 80s, and the water was super rough; that experience cured me! The weather is really mild today, for the 1st of July. It's only 90, and that will likely be our high, considering it's nearly 5 o'clock. That's really unusual.

DS has squirrelled around with his car insurance claim for the hail damage done in mid-June. He thinks the claims adjustors at the site our insurance co has set up in town (in the lower quarter of the Home Depot parking lot) have finally reviewed all of the damage - he had to run back over there this morning when he found a glaring piece of damage the guy had missed. Looks like the insurance company will be cutting 3 checks to cover it all. I don't get on our insurance company's site too often. Insurance is a subject that easily annoys the fool out of me. Otherwise, I've had a good time baking up a pan of cornbread & beef brats to go along with eggs for breakfast. I haven't made that in years, but as much as we agree we like it, I expect I'll bake a pan every so often. I'm going to bake those salmon fillets with butter and lemon slices for dinner (didn't feel like doing all that a couple of days ago ) Hope the month is starting off well for each and all of you.

It has been raining hard here this evening, but no storms so far. I might go to bed early this evening. I don't know why I'm so sleepy today. Maybe it's the weather. Edit to add: My attempt to turn in early didn't last long due to someone nearby playing loud music and setting off fireworks.

It's been a peaceful day. Didn't nearly do the things I thought I'd do, but I definitely recouped some energy I'd used up yesterday. So, planning to be up 'n at 'em earlier in the morning and work on my vacation 'to do' list. I heard fireworks awhile ago, but there may have been a legal display at the Apache Casino at sundown. The noise finally bothered Franny & Leela; they're now sacked out here in the office next to me. They don't get as upset over noises as they used to - Milo Man has been a good influence on them. Well, I'm not planning to stay up much longer. I'm going to see what I need to do to be ready to cook tomorrow - we're having our July 4th dinner tomorrow afternoon. I'm planning on putting country ribs in the crockpot with BBQ sauce; making a batch of cracked-out pea salad; and mixing up a key lime pie. That doesn't seem to be enough, but I'm not sure what else we need to go with it. Might be some salad greens in the fridge; and we have 3 Roma tomatoes too. Sweetie would be happy with tomatoes & cottage cheese; I'd be happy with salad greens, tomatoes, and onions. That oughta round out dinner for each of us. Once I know I've got that plan in order, I'm going to bed.

Good morning! It is 72 degrees and foggy here this morning. Our forecast for today is calling for rain with storms with high winds and hail possible this afternoon and evening. We really do need the rain, but I could do without the storms. I hope you are all having a great Sunday!

Good morning! It's 83 at 10 a.m. Only expected to reach 95 today. I'm definitely okay with that. It is pretty humid, however. Hope you don't have any severe storms today, Mel. Great church service this morning - Dr. Jeffress preached on America being founded as a Christian nation and ran through the legal challenges that have been misinterpreted over the years and thus convinced the average person that 'separation of church and state' is somewhere in the Constitution, the Bible, or federal law. Of course, it's not. His big point was in Hosea 4:6 -- My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; Because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children. That was addressed to the Israelites, but it's also apropos to the United States of America, considering we were founded as a Christian nation. Well ... hope everyone here has a Sunday that's free and safe from all harm & evil! Edward saw a joke a couple of days ago that read something like, "Some people don't realize this is the last weekend they'll have all 10 fingers."

That's a good cartoon. Dave Granlund is one of my favorite editorial cartoonists.

"DRUNK PEOPLE YOU WOULDN'T TRUST WITH A GLOW STICK" I luv it!! Mm, yeh, I was looking at that big open space in the front of the commissary. The whole summer display of cookout foods, charcoal briquets, toilet paper & paper towels are all back in the aisles they came from. I was wondering what they're going to put in that space. The cat commenting on "Christmas stuff" made me think of Halloween candy! That's the area they've set up the big spooky cardboard tree with all of the candy & party supplies around it. It's re-ally early for that, but who knows. The country short ribs in the crockpot were delicious! And the pea salad turned out well too. Edward said he liked the key lime pie, but I didn't think it tasted like whatever I expected, whatever that was. Edward's comment was that it wasn't even a light shade of green. Well, one of the recipes I read said, if you wanted the pie to look green, you'd need to add some green food coloring ... after all, the fresh lime juice you squeezed out of the limes wasn't a very dark green and the bright white cool-whip was definitely going to wipe out any other color that wasn't a bold, dark shade. He said, oh, yeh, that made sense! I'm really tired. I need to make a sweep through the house & be sure everything is put away, and then I can go to bed.

Good morning! It is a cloudy 69 degrees here this morning with rain likely off and on all day. Someone nearby was setting off fireworks again last night, but not as many as the night before. I really need to get my grass mowed, but I don't know if it is going to dry off enough today.
