His many inventions included early versions of the curling iron, the mouse trap, and the light bulb.
His motive for creating his most famous invention was "to help these Europeans to kill each other more efficiently".

invention was "to help these Europeans to kill each other more efficiently" <-- That is one wild clue! I'm gonna hop on google, load it up and see what I find. I've been guessing from the start that he had something to do with inventing dynamite, but I haven't had time to go researching. Back shortly ... Ok, is this Sir Hiram Maxim, inventor of the machine gun? What a riot!

An expedition led by a British explorer is usually considered to be the first group of Europeans to arrive in a group of islands whose residents had no written language, no metals, no livestock but nonetheless were excellent farmers and builders using wood. Within 5 years of the people's discovery, our mystery man below had used the European military equipment and technology to conquer and unify the islands for the first time, establishing a kingdom. His kingdom lasted till the end of his life and beyond for a total of nearly 80 years.

Yes, Kamehameha I, aka Kamehameha the Great. Admittedly, he may have given himself that "the Great" part. Kamehameha III ... a younger son of Kamehameha I, was the last in the dynasty. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kamehameha_III

Steven Zirnkilton - I've never heard of him, but he does have a great voice! He was a Representative in Maine during the summer we vacationed in Maine, not that I was following politics there at the time.

Our mystery man was an All-American athlete in high school, playing well in 3 sports with one coach providing him with the nickname of a well-liked reptile. After which he had an enthusiastic and much storied college career in one chosen sport, including a play in the mud that led his team to win over their top rival in a lackluster bowl game. His professional career spanned 17 seasons.
