Starbucks has launched a new transgender-friendly commercial and campaign that will benefit a controversial British charity that supports overturning the age limit when children can receive cross-sex hormones. But the #WhatsYourName campaign has drawn criticism for Starbucks’ partnership with Mermaids, a London-based charity that “supports gender-diverse children and young people until their 20th birthday,” according to its website. Starbucks hopes to raise at least £100,000 for Mermaids. Mermaids has been the source of criticism in the United Kingdom and even within UK mainstream media for its push to overturn the nationwide ban on children under 16 receiving opposite-sex hormones.
Starbucks will sell a special edition “Mermaid Cookie” to raise funds for the charity.

... this is one for the "just when I thought I'd heard it all" file. This next generation - whatever comes beyond the millennials - will be so mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and probably physically confused ... I wouldn't be surprised if they start picking what species each considers itself to be. How will all of these confused people make a living, have fulfilling lives - ?

I wouldn't be surprised if they start picking what species each considers itself to be. How will all of these confused people make a living, have fulfilling lives - ? Otherkin Are People Too; They Just Identify as Nonhuman
Otherkin are people who identify as partially or entirely nonhuman. A dragon, a lion, a fox—you name it—there is probably someone out there who feels like they are more these things than they are human. The otherkin community can be found lurking on Reddit, Tumblr, TV Tropes, and other online forums.
The popularity of the otherkin phenomena seems to have been steadily increasing—particularly on Tumblr—since 2012. But what does it mean to truly believe you're nonhuman? Do people genuinely wake up one day and think that they are a fox or is this just a bizarre form of escapism? Is it body dysmorphia or fantasy?
I spoke to John on Reddit, a 19-year-old from Knoxville, USA, known on the web as Noslavic. He introduced himself: "I am a red fox-kin who was, as we call, awakened about a year ago." He said that awakening felt, "at the very least, relieving," because "everything seemed to come together for me.
It would seem, from reading otherkin message boards, that a significant percentage of otherkin are also transgender, and there are many forums online arguing that if you support transgender rights, you ought to support the rights of otherkin.

There was a 2003 episode of CSI that largely centered around events of a furry convention in Las Vegas. At the time, I'd never heard of such a thing, and I hadn't seen any more of that sort of thing since, except for someone joking in real life about furries not too long ago & I brought up that episode of CSI. I had no idea that there are such people who identify as "otherkin".
Pretty bizarre stuff. The lines are becoming more and more blurred - between sanity & mental illness; between reality & fantasy. The breakdown of the family as an institution; the lowering of educational standards in public schools; the removal and denigration of God and Christianity - they're all to blame, all responsible elements.
