Five people were killed and about 60 have been hospitalized after the Sunday-morning crash that closed down an 86-mile stretch of the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Westmoreland County The crash occurred around 3:30 a.m. in Mount Pleasant Township, closing the turnpike between Exit 75 to New Stanton and Exit 161 to Breezewood, closing the turnpike in both directions, according to the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission.
Pa. Turnpike Commission spokesman Carl DeFebo said on Twitter about 60 patients have been taken to three area hospitals and the Westmoreland County Coroner’s Office confirmed five people have died.
The crash involves three tractor-trailers, a tour bus and a car, according to WPXI. The tour bus had flipped on its side, according to reports.
A cause for the crash has not yet been determined.
