VATICAN CITY — The superior general of the Society of Jesus said Aug. 21 that the devil is a symbol, but not a person. The devil, “exists as the personification of evil in different structures, but not in persons, because is not a person, is a way of acting evil. He is not a person like a human person. It is a way of evil to be present in human life,” Jesuit Father Arturo Sosa said Wednesday in an interview with Italian magazine Tempi. “Good and evil are in a permanent war in the human conscience and we have ways to point them out. We recognize God as good, fully good. Symbols are part of reality, and the devil exists as a symbolic reality, not as a personal reality,” he added.

Even for a Catholic, this priest's understanding of Biblical theology is seriously messed up.

Even for a Catholic, this priest's understanding of Biblical theology is seriously messed up. Definitely! I like the way you put that - made me chuckle. This priest needs to get into the books, do some studying before he does any more talking. Satan is a fallen angel, a real being. 1 Peter 5:8 immediately comes to mind . . . "Be sober-minded and alert. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour."

There's a good article in the 8/23/2019 Tracking Bible Prophecy Headlines thread: Hail Satan?: The Satanists battling for religious freedomwww.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-49392867It goes along with this thread because it discusses another view of Satan and Satanism. This article is about the Satanic Temple, which is not the same as The Church of Satan. The Satanic Temple "encourages people to give blood, collect socks for the homeless, clean public beaches (using small pitchforks - a cute touch) and hold Satanic after-school clubs for children who are taught about the Temple's tenets which include: 1. One should strive to act with compassion and empathy towards all creatures in accordance with reason. 2. People are fallible. If we make a mistake, we should do our best to rectify it and resolve any harm that may have been caused." Members of the Satanic Temple say that none of them believe in Satan as an actual being, but see Satan as more of an "abstract and fictional concept." It seems a lot of people these days don't have an accurate definition of Satan, or of religion (and so, of course, they don't understand the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit).
