McDonald's confirms creation of McPlant plant-based burgerThe global fast-food giant shared exclusively with USA TODAY Monday that it has developed a new plant-based platform dubbed McPlant with tests of the burger expected in some markets around the world next year. "McPlant is crafted exclusively for McDonald’s, by McDonald’s," Ian Borden, McDonald's international president, said at the investor meeting. "In the future, McPlant could extend across a line of plant-based products including burgers, chicken-substitutes and breakfast sandwiches." McDonald's is behind its competition on launching a plant-based burger in the U.S. In 2019, Burger King launched the Impossible Whopper using a plant-based patty from food startup Impossible Foods, maker of the Impossible patty. Carl's Jr., Del Taco and many other chains also added plant-based menu items in 2019. Author Kathy Freston started a Change.org petition asking for McDonald's to add a vegan burger about seven years ago. The petition has more than 234,000 signatures. www.yahoo.com/news/mcdonalds-confirms-creation-mcplant-plant-153901416.html

These fast food chains, restaurants, and the faux meat producers will certainly be prepared if Kamala Harris were to become President. A plank in her platform is to significantly limit our red meat eating days.

Pizza Hut to offer pizzas with Beyond Meat sausage(Reuters) - Pizza Hut on Tuesday launched two pizzas with plant-based meat maker Beyond Meat's sausage in the United States and the United Kingdom for a limited time, taking advantage of the consumer craze for plant-based meat options during the COVID-19 pandemic. The chain, owned by U.S.-based Yum Brands Inc, is jumping on the substitute meat bandwagon as more people search out healthier snacks and comfort foods. For Beyond Meat, the deal marks another feather in its cap and comes a day after it announced it had co-created the patty for McDonald's new "McPlant" line of faux meat products that will debut in 2021. Pizza Hut said it would offer Beyond meat's faux meat sausages as a 1-topping option on the Beyond Italian Sausage Pizza and as a special recipe in another pizza, The Great Beyond Pizza, across U.S. stores and some Pizza Hut Express stores from Nov. 10, until supplies last. In the United Kingdom, it will be offered at three outlets in London for only three weeks as well as in some locations in Luton and Liverpool, adding that the pizzas will be available only through delivery and takeaway in both countries.
Edit to add: Just to be nosy, I checked with our local Pizza hut to see if they had this Beyond Sausage pizza yet. They do, and it costs $3 more than the same size pizza with real sausage.

Wow! For only $3 more than the same pizza that contains real sausage!
So many things are wrong with this. It's no bargain for a family on a limited budget. If the plan is to somehow advertise this stuff as "healthy", they're missing the mark by not supporting people who most often have trouble affording healthier foods, because it is more expensive to eat healthy than to eat highly processed junk foods.
And, personally, I believe they're missing the mark in general because these faux meats are not healthy, but instead are highly processed mounds of chemicals. <-- having read some Ingredients lists on faux meats vs the ingredients in real meats.

I agree. The vast majority of these fake meats are extremely unhealthy, and the very few that actually are good in that regard could never even begin to pass for real meat taste wise since it is all the bad stuff that lets the others mimic the taste and texture of real meat (not that any of them really get entirely right anyway).

Beyond Meat moves closer to its perfect burger
Beyond Meat (BYND) unveiled two new versions of its popular Beyond Burger Monday. The Beyond 35 boasts 35% less total fat (and 35% less saturated fat) than traditional 80/20 ground beef. Meanwhile, the Beyond 55 also has 35% less total fat versus 80/20 ground beef but 55% less saturated fat. Beyond didn’t disclose the total nutritional profiles of the new burgers, which will debut in early 2021.
Founder and CEO Ethan Brown tells Yahoo Finance the Beyond 35 will have approximately 5 grams of saturated fat — relatively in line to the current iteration of the burger in 4 ounce form. The Beyond 35 will be available for the company’s restaurant partners and grocery stores. As for the Beyond 55 — which is tantamount to Beyond’s first low fat burger — it will have roughly 3 grams of saturated fat and be available at grocery stores.

McDonald's McPlant Burger Expected to Nearly Double Beyond Meat's Revenue
According to one analyst, a partnership with McDonald's could annually add $300 million to Beyond Meat's top line. For perspective, the company has about $400 million in trailing-12-month revenue. Therefore, just one deal with McDonald's could nearly double Beyond Meat's revenue. That's a big deal.

Saw this on the 6 O'clock News this evening: FDA approves genetically modified pigThe U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved a genetically modified pig that promises a number of benefits, including being safe to eat by people with certain allergies. It’s the first time in history a genetically modified animal has been approved for both food and biomedical purposes. The new GalSafe pig, as it is called, can help people who have an alpha-gal allergy, which is sometimes triggered by tick bites. In the future, it’s hoped the GalSafe pig could also produce organs for transplants, and that its skin could be used for skin grafts for humans in need. The FDA said the genetically modified GalSafe pig will not have any more negative impact on the environment than an average pig. A company called Revivicor developed the modified pig. It’s the same company that cloned Dolly the sheep in 1996. This is a story that appeared on WSAZ Newschannel 3 in Huntington, WV www.wsaz.com/2020/12/15/fda-approves-genetically-modified-pig/The story is copyrighted by 2020 CNN Newsource link to the FDA article on GalSafe Pig is here: www.fda.gov/news-events/press-announcements/fda-approves-first-its-kind-intentional-genomic-alteration-line-domestic-pigs-both-human-food

Sausage king Jimmy Dean adds plant-based breakfast patties
Jimmy Dean, owned by Tyson Foods, on Wednesday announced the launch of two breakfast items featuring plant-based patties, the first alternative protein products under the 52-year-old Jimmy Dean brand.
The egg and cheese croissant sandwich, available at Sam’s Club stores nationwide, uses a patty made with soy protein and egg white, while the spinach frittata sandwich, which will launch in the spring, uses a patty made of soy protein, black beans, brown rice, quinoa and egg white. The patties use the signature sausage seasoning to taste like the original, the company said.
Meat industry stalwarts have been investing in plant-based protein alternatives as sales of fake meat continue to surge and innovations using different ingredients and technologies make it taste more like the real thing.

Impossible Foods lowering Prices
Impossible Foods announced it's cutting the prices of products it sells to foodservice distributors by about 15%. This makes it cheaper for those companies to sell things like Impossible Burger patties, 5-pound Burger bulk packages, and Impossible Sausage Made From Plants patties to you at your local grocery store. It's the second time the company has lowered prices recently.
"Our stated goal since Impossible Foods' founding has always been to drive down prices through economies of scale, reach price parity and then undercut the price of conventional ground beef from cows," the company's founder and CEO, Dr. Patrick O. Brown, said in a statement. "Less than a year ago, we cut foodservice prices by 15%. Today's price cut is just the latest—not the last—step toward making the food system sustainable. Stay tuned."
News of the price cuts comes as sales of sliced meat products are on the rise and have been since October of 2020, as people continue to work from home.

Impossible Foods cuts faux meat prices by 20%(Reuters) - Impossible Foods said on Tuesday it would cut the prices of its faux meat patties by 20% at U.S. grocery stores as the plant-based protein maker ramps up production with a larger plan to eventually undercut ground beef prices. California-based Impossible Foods, which has already cut prices for food distributors twice in one year, said it would keep lowering prices of their products. The suggested retail prices for Impossible Burger would drop to $5.49 in about 17,000 U.S. grocery stores, the company said in a statement, adding that it will introduce similar price cuts at retail stores in Canada, Singapore and Hong Kong. www.yahoo.com/finance/news/impossible-foods-cuts-faux-meat-110515993.html

Mercy Buckets!! Who buys this stuff?!?!?! $5.49 for their burgers in US grocery stores? Heh, that's too rich for my pocketbook! I can buy grassfed black angus beef by the pound for only a little more than that. Same with buying fresh buffalo. Oh, I'm so thankful I live in the heartland!
