There’s no denying that the machine guns and howitzers firing at the Allied forces landing in Normandy 75 years ago were manned by German soldiers. But over the decades, Germans’ attitudes toward the war have evolved from a sense of defeat to something far more complex.
Personally, as the member of a family with German roots that go back 4 generations, and having had at least 1 uncle who fought in WW I and 3 uncles who fought in WW II, this is a rather shocking but very enlightening article to read. I would have never expected to see this attitude change.
