NEW YORK (Reuters) - A 37-year-old man who entered New York's famed St. Patrick's Cathedral carrying two full gasoline cans, lighter fluid and lighters was charged with attempted arson on Thursday, police said. A New York City Police Department official said Marc Lamparello, a New Jersey resident, was charged with second-degree attempted arson, second-degree reckless endangerment and trespassing after he entered the Roman Catholic cathedral in midtown Manhattan just before 8 p.m. on Wednesday and was confronted by a security guard.

This guy is surely one angry, sick human! Wouldn't you like to know the circumstances behind his name no longer being associated with the Philosophy Dept at CUNY? Was he fired? Did he quit? How long had he been there? So on Monday of last week he was arrested for simply hanging around (& refusing to leave at closing time) the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Newark; then Wednesday, he's caught "walking into an iconic location like St. Patrick's Cathedral carrying over four gallons of gasoline, two bottles of lighter fluid and lighters". And, oh, btw, he had a one-way ticket to fly to Rome on Thursday. I hope more will be published about this guy - what will the police find when they question his family, friends, fellow staff members at CUNY? Wonder what they'll find in his apartment or at his house? And what's the balance & activity in his bank account(s)? Does he have a safe deposit box? . . . Really happy he was not able to cause any damage. Once he's through with trials and there's some end to this story, it will make a good true crime hour for some TV show like 20/20 or 48 Hours. ;) ...
