So, did Miss May get any of your creamed chipped beef? It was so good to get back on the internet this evening! I'm happy tomorrow is Friday.

Good morning! It is a rather chilly 50 degrees here this morning, and our forecast high for today is only 75. So, did Miss May get any of your creamed chipped beef? She did. Of course, she would probably have helped herself even if I hadn't given her some. She seemed more interested in the gravy than the meat, but she ate the meat too once it had been licked clean of gravy. It was so good to get back on the internet this evening! I'm glad to hear that you got your internet issue solved so quickly. Technology is wonderful when it works. Hard to believe that all of these things that seem so essential now didn't even exist not all that long ago.

Over the years, I've received plenty of pretty ridiculous scam messages by way of telephone and email, but I think this one that my sister in law got this morning is the first one that I've encountered that came by way of text message: And all She has to do to get her $60 Million is give them her bank account numbers and social security number. Edit to add: SIL says that she "feels so special!".

Hard to believe that all of these thing that seem so essential now didn't even exist not all that long ago. Well, I'm happy to hear Miss May enjoyed that creamed chipped beef. She's such a character. As for technology, I say that often, that "I luv technology when it works!, and I feel like tossing it out a window when it doesn't!" What's interesting is how much of our lives is tied to one or more items on the internet - bank accounts, bills, the work sites for accomplishing our job tasks, etc, etc. And you're right, its's really happened fast. I often think I'd like to go back to a simpler, quieter, less high tech life, but I really don't see it happening. ... And this household is not as 'high tech' as we could be. We don't bank through our cell phones, and I don't typically pay bills on my phone, altho' I have occasionally paid for something through PayPal using my phone. I don't trust that it's secure enough that I won't have my identity stolen, or my bank account hacked. Y'all have a great Friday!

Heh, I agree with your SIL, I'd feel special too!

I don't trust that it's secure enough that I won't have my identity stolen, or my bank account hacked. I don't have any payment stuff set up on my phone either, it is far too easy for the phone to be be lost or stolen for me to keep anything too important on it. I do pay some of my bills online with the laptop which never leaves my house, but I'm one of those people who still likes to pay cash or write out a paper check for most things. When Sharon and I got married in 1999, neither of us had ever owned a computer or cell phone up to that time. We bought our first Computer (a Windows 98 Desktop) in early 2000, and it was a few more years after that before we got our first very cheap prepaid cell phone to keep in the car for emergencies since it was around that time that most of the local pay phones and public phone booths started to disappear.

Our experience hasn't been much different from yours Mel. After Dave passed away in 1991, friends convinced me a few months later to get a bag phone in case I brokedown on the road somewhere. I lived out in the mountains, 15 miles out of town, and DS was all of 2 years old at the time. They made a good case for it, and I headed off to AT&T and got a bag phone. Calls were outrageously expensive - something like 25 cents/minute. I didn't use it much, but it came in handy at home a few times when severe weather and a raging grass fire knocked out the landlines in our town. I only had reception on that bag phone when I was in my own driveway if I stood outside my mini-van on the driver's side and and talked from right there, that one point. I had a pager in the early 90s too because I worked, was in grad school too, and DS was in daycare. I needed to be reachable if he got sick. He was a pretty healthy kid, thankfully. Finally got rid of the pager and got a 'real' cell phone that I could carry around when I got into an Army Reserve unit as the officer-in-charge of a team that was getting other units equipped for training when they came to Ft. Sill. That would have been about 1998. ATM bank cards had debuted before I graduated from WVU in the late 70s. That idea stuck me as unneeded, and another way people might hack my account, so I didn't ever have a debit card until maybe 8 or 10 years ago - ? Sweetie & DS guilted and teased me into getting one and giving up checks, except when I absolutely have to write one. I'm still not crazy about getting money from an ATM machine, but I have gotten used to swiping my card when I'm gassing up a vehicle, or shopping for groceries. These days, I have most bills set up to auto-draft on the due date from my checking account, and I balance my account daily online. I pay the lawnmowing crew online through PayPal once they've finished a yard - they're mowing 3 plus at our house. I like PayPal because it keeps vendor eyes out of my checking account, and they'll mediate a dispute if one arises. Not that I had ever really wanted to be all tied to cyberspace that way.

Heading to the office. I learned to set up bills to be ready to pay, using this new software program. Today, I learn the 'actual' payment portion of the program. I'm taking off early this afternoon and treating Edward to dinner at our favorite Mexican restaurant. We're celebrating 25 years of happy togetherness. We've raised 2 sons, remodeled 13 apartments and houses, rescued 9 dogs, and more in all that time. And we've both grown tremendously spiritually. Y'all have a great Friday!

The couple of times that I have tried it in the past didn't go well. Multiple consecutive months of the utility company taking out duplicate payments, and at least twice that my health insurance at the time took it out on the wrong date and then tried to charge me a late fee.

I don't know who is behind it, but these billboards have been popping up around these parts. Oh, my gosh! That's a pretty gutsy billboard! I really am laughing because it's so shocking, and it is funny, but it's also so horrible! This is a slam on the President of the United States. Once upon a time (in a galaxy far, far away) people would have never acted out what they were they were thinking this way. We are really circling the drain - as a nation and a society. The state of the world really is pretty shocking, when I can pull back far enough to look around and consider all that I read and see. Wow! And people (outside of this message board) wonder why I am praying for Jesus to return soon and rapture His followers.

May loves to lick the salt off of a piece of my soft pretzel. View AttachmentActually, that makes sense. I bet the salty taste against the bread taste is really pleasing to her. Miss May is one bright cat, and she knows what she likes. We had a very nice dinner, and will polish off our leftover steaks along with some biscuits and eggs for breakfast in the morning. I'm overwhelmed at the number of family, friends, fellow real estate professionals, customers & past customers, neighbors from out in the mountains & right down the street here in town who have commented on my facebook post that I was "having dinner with my honey" and commented that we are celebrating "25 years of happy togetherness". We really like and love all of those people; I just really hadn't realized how many there are. I'm a little choked up, really. Outside of my cousins (11 of them, scattered all around the country), Edward and/or I have known all those people for pretty close to 20 years, most of them; 3 or 4, Edward has known pretty much all of his life. One of those gals, who he's known as far back as he can remember, called this evening and chatted awhile - she lives in Tulsa these days, but still has an aunt here. That was good fun too. Well, I really oughta go to bed. I love y'all and I'll see you tomorrow.
