Israel on Monday will begin offering a third dose of Pfizer and BioNTech's coronavirus vaccine as a booster shot for people with weakened immune systems, according to the Times of Israel. Why it matters: It's the first country to offer booster shots to bolster protection against the rapidly spreading Delta variant. The Israeli Health Ministry is still determining whether an extra shot should be offered to the general public. www.axios.com/israel-vaccine-booster-delta-variant-db5dfb14-3729-496e-9675-26f0b652e498.html

I can't figure out 'why' Israel is doing this. From the articles I've read - scholarly type articles, not simply internet poster opinions - variants do come along with viruses, but they're usually weaker, and die out sooner. The virus has sort of a downward spiral of effect (& "badness" - or maybe seriousness is the better word) over time as weaker variants pop up and the virus either basically dies out or it is found throughout the population in a manageable form. This Delta variant sound suspicious.

This Delta variant sound suspicious. My thought is that it is all about the money. I know a number of people who think that it couldn't be about that because the shots are "free" for most people in most countries, but that isn't really true because the various governments are paying big bucks to the drug companies for every batch of vaccine that they distribute. And no doubt some of that drug money gets turned back into political "contributions". So even though the individual patient isn't paying for it directly in most cases, we are all paying for the vaccines out of our taxes (at least those of us who pay taxes).
