Did you wake up and think, I'd like a side of unexpected protein with my morning coffee? Great news! The Starbucks Newsroom announced today they're rolling out the Pepper Nitro With a Jerky Twist at their Seattle Roastery.
Did you read that and think, What? Great news! There's an explanation:
Pepper Nitro with a Jerky Twist takes freshly ground Congo coffee, slow-steeped as cold brew and served on draft through a nitro tap, then infused with a sweet and savory malted fennel black pepper syrup. The beverage is topped with a layer of honey cold foam and finished with a sprinkling of cracked pink peppercorn and a bamboo skewer of natural beef jerky made with grass-fed beef.
Did you read that and think, Why? Great news! There's further explanation: "We want to celebrate our passion for coffee, but also create the unexpected with flavors that we know Roastery customers love," Raegan Powell of the company's Reseach & Development team explains.

I grew up waking up to the heavenly aroma of Maxwell House, and later Folgers, percolating in the kitchen. These people speak a foreign language when they write and say things like this: I have no idea what any of the underlined items mean. So obviously I'm never going to wake up with the anticipation of having one of these, which to me (gal who worked pulling pitchers of beer many evenings at a small, family-owned, pizza parlor in north-central WV in the late 70s) looks like a cheap dark beer that someone put far too big a foam head on the top of, and then some jokester dropped an old, dried out pepperoni into it, just for fun. Not my idea of appealing at any hour of the day! Attachment Deleted Attachment Deleted

I don't really like coffee very much anyway, I'd much rather have a good cup of strong tea; but to me this new Starbuck's concoction is just a disgusting waste of good beef jerky! Of course, even if I were a coffee drinker, I wouldn't be likely to go to Starbuck's (or most of the other big name coffee houses either) anyway given their prices.

Of course, even if I were a coffee drinker, I wouldn't be likely to go to Starbuck's (or most of the other big name coffee houses either) anyway given their prices. Totally agree with you on this one too. I am a coffee drinker, but I won't go to Starbucks for many reasons - they're overpriced and pretentious; their coffee tastes burned; their politics are totally disgusting so why on earth would I spend hard-earned money there?
