Good morning! Beautiful sunrise here today.
Edward was out the door at 7:15 this morning, heading for the Dept of Public Safety office @the Hwy Patrol headquarters. Hopefully they'll work him in this morning & update his CDL.

Those cats are cute! Edward got a good deal at DPS. Supposedly they would only update his CDL. In reality, they updated his CDL & renewed his Drivers License. He's good to go. We don't need to go through the drill DS & I did to walk in & get a Drivers License in another county because our county is full up on appts. I was going to go with him in the morning to the next county east of here. This is pretty nice - I can work at home tomorrow! We stopped at a Mom n Pop restaurant on the southside of town & had a great, home cooked southern meal. Just got home.

I've done 2 things this morning that I'm not crazy about doing. 1) I ordered 2 breakfast sandwiches through my phone using the Whataburger app. That was ok, tho' I've only done it once before for a special promotion they had last year. But, I couldn't figure out how 'not' to pay for the items as part of completing my order so pulled out my debit card. Then I went on with scheduling curbside pickup and off I went to do that. What left me groaning is that this process supports becoming a cashless society - and you know how opposed I am to that idea! 2) The lawn crew came this morning and mowed the backyard & picked up leaves, limbs, pine cones... It looks great! They weren't quite finished when I ran off to Whataburger because I had a pickup time to meet. The owner said no problem he had an app, venmo. I can't use venmo with this old android Note 5 phone. Asked if I could pay with PayPal? Sure - he'd send me the info. Great! What he sent later was a QR code panel with the PayPal logo. I tried downloading the PayPal app, thinking that might help. No. I need a way to scan what he sent. I got on PayPal through this PC and I had an option to send $ to a mobile phone. He & I texted & decided to try that. I got a message back saying he needs to set up a PayPal account & he has 10 days to pick up the money I sent. <-- As if all that wasn't a nuisance, it also bugs me because it's another move that supports the cashless society. It's kind of funny, but I don't see using a credit card as supporting the cashless society. Probably because I picture myself working to earn the $ to pay the bill. So the credit card itself is not the end payment, it's a stop-gap measure. I really hadn't thought that through till just now. See y'all later!

The biggest problem that I have with the idea of a truly cashless economy is that at any given moment, you are only one major computer glitch (or hacker attack) away from total disaster for your whole economy. And that doesn't even take into account the possibility (or should that be probability?) of corrupt officials abusing the cashless banking system to hold you hostage financially.

It's the complete control ... and complete end to personal privacy. That's how I see the cashless society.
No pennies to pick up off the ground. No change to give the kids to toss into the collection plate.
Will yard sales be possible, and all of the sales like a yard sale?
What will happen to the tooth fairy? ... and a gazillion other things that involve small amounts of money, and multi-generational members within a family.
I'm also afraid money will get to the point it's virtually meaningless. It's a sad subject, imo.
