Pope Francis called for the legalization of same-sex civil unions for the first time as pope, a shift from the Catholic Church’s longstanding doctrine on LGBTQ rights, though Francis appeared to stop short of supporting same-sex marriage outright.
The pope made the comments during a documentary film released in Italy on Wednesday, the Associated Press reported.
Francis framed civil unions, a legal status with rights similar to marriages in some jurisdictions, as a way of ensuring same-sex couples are “legally covered” and are able to have families.
He also reportedly called gay Catholics “children of God” and said they should not be ostracized from the religion.

We saw this on the TV. I was telling DW that if, and that's a big if, this Pope is the leader of the corrupt tribulation church you can easily see why almost everyone follows him.

I don't know if he is THE False prophet that is spoken of in the Book of Revelation, but I don't see how there can be any real doubt that is is at least A false prophet and false teacher. If he is not the one, he certainly seems to be preparing the way for him at record speed.
What really blows my mind about this is how some of my Catholic friends are really bending over so far backwards to try and insist that this in no way goes against the historic teaching of the Catholic Church.

I have a problem with the end phrase of that first sentence: "and are able to have families." Since homosexuals cannot procreate, this shouldn't be something the church is supporting. I know, they can sometimes adopt, but .... It's just annoying.
The priest at the Catholic church I attended when I was in the process of joining the church was adamant that gay Catholics are "children of God, however ..." and he would go on to remind parishioners that the practice of homosexuality was a sin. He welcomed homosexuals to participate in the mass, so long as they were not actively engaging in the practice of homosexuality. I always thought that was pretty open of him. He's long since passed away, so no idea what he would be saying today, though I can't imagine him supporting Pope Francis.
