Today is FaithJ's 12th birthday! She's our Diva Dog, of all the dogs we've ever had, she's the Diva.

Good morning! According to the weather forecast, we are in for another mid 90s high humidity day here. We had a noisy night here last night. Someone in the neighborhood was setting off fire crackers all night. It finally stopped about 5AM.

Thanks for the Birthday wishes, Mel! I think FaithyJ must have really enjoyed herself this weekend. She's been wandering around with a grin on her face since she got up this morning. She had a ball trying to dig her way to China, in the front courtyard under the shrubs. I cheered her on and she dug faster. Our lawn mowing guys came this morning. I paid a little extra and promised I'd work on not letting it get so high again! Oh, my gosh, that grass had really popped up, and gone to seed no less. Fireworks were a little worse in this area last evening than they've been over the past few years. Two sets of people put off nice displays about a mile to the NE. They're in the county, so they could do that. Leela and Fran didn't like it at all. Hopefully they set off everything they had last night & things will be quiet tonight. We'll have to wait & see.

Vice President Mike Pence made a special guest appearance at First Baptist Dallas. Really don't know if it was filmed live this morning, tho' I'm suspecting it may have been at their early service. Everyone in the congregation wore masks. He gave a wonderful talk - pretty much a sermon, really, except he didn't cite book, chapter & verse; he had everything committed to memory.
Dr. Jeffress opened his introduction by saying he'd stopped by Trump Tower in 2016, shortly after the election, and met with then Pres.-elect Donald Trump. Before they concluded their meeting, Trump asked him if he'd met Mike Pence? Jeffress said no, so Trump called Pence to come down the hall and meet with Jeffress. Trump told Dr. Jeffress that he was really gonna like Mike Pence, adding, "He's the exact opposite of me!" Everybody laughed, of course.
Pence shared the basics of his having accepted Christ in 1978 - it was a great story.
Pence was heavy on morality and faith. He quoted George Washington and John Quincy Adams and tied the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution to today's situations. He reminded everyone that when we can't see God at work, and when things aren't turning out like we expected, we need to remember that God is still at work, and His plan is turning out as expected. He basically requested we all pray for America daily, and don't give up our faith.
It was an inspiring service! We were really happy we'd tuned in!

I went to the grocery store to get a few things for my parents this morning. There was a sign at each register asking for exact change only on cash transactions, so I guess the coin shortage that has been in the news the last few days has now reached PA. I wouldn't really do it, but I do so want to go into the store with a wheelbarrow full of loose pennies just to see their reaction.

I'm tired. Spent the afternoon - from 1 p.m. to almost 5 p.m. at our house out in the mountains, waiting on a plumber. Plumber came; took care of half the problem - saved me $80 over what I expected to pay from his first comments. We hit it off and got along well. I had him fix a couple other odds 'n ends issues under the kitchen sink. This was supposed to be a home warranty claim. The home warranty company did not hold up their end of the contract - they did not answer the phone to authorize the plumber to do the work. I held the line for a long time & then finally agreed to be put in line for a call back when an agent became available. It's basically 8:30 pm, and the company has still not called me back. What was I supposed to do - feed those guys dinner and put them up for the night?!? I'm very displeased. You can bet I will be calling the customer service # and giving them a piece of my mind tomorrow. Edward had floor duty this afternoon so didn't come home till after 6. I made a big pot of blackeyed pea soup. It really hit the spot, even if it's a little warm outside.

Good morning!
It's going to be another hot day here, but maybe not so humid as the last several have been.
I need to go over to the tax office later this morning to pay my school district property tax for the 2020/2021 school year.
Our school tax is up almost 25% from what it was last year.

It looks like you should get a tax break, considering the schools have been closed a few months - y'know, pro-rate the bill.
Yeh, like that would ever happen, eh?
Okay, I'm heading out into the fog to go to the gym. The morning crowd should be pretty well gone. Maybe I'll have the place almost to myself.

I don't seem to have a lot of drive & energy this morning. Meh! I'm still planning to hit the gym and run a couple of nearby errands. Here are 2 of my favorite famous sculptures, statues ... not sure how you decide which word fits. These are located in and on the grounds of the Cowboy Hall of Fame, which is now properly titled, "National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum". edited to add: This museum is located in Oklahoma City. It's one of my favorite places to roam around. This is "End of the Trail". It's breathtaking to view, and also sad when I think about it. I'm hoping museum security is enough to protect it. This is Buffalo Bill, motioning on the covered wagon caravan that he was leading, from atop Persimmon Hill (and it's located on Persimmon Hill, which is pretty neat, imo. )
